Great, cheers! Sky+ is recording that baby for me

Not seen this all the way through since I was but a nipper. Caught the end of it recently and loved it - Spock and Kirk's scene at the end is just beautiful, and truly iconic.

Love Kirk's line:

"How do you feel, Jim?"

"Young ... I feel ... young."

Brilliant.

So is there anyone out there who doesn't like Wrath of Khan?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

The only great Star Trek film is the JJ Abrams one.
I've already watched it about a dozen times since it was released. Wrath Of Khan is technically good but It's nowhere near as enjoyable and rewatchable.

Joss Whedon also thinks that Abrams Star Trek is one of the greatest summer blockbusters/TV movies ever (Comic con 2010).

That surprises me given your dislike for Caprica because it has young people in it.

Abrams is the most blockbustery of them - but it has a flabby script and none of the emotional centre of Khan. That said, it is a massive amount of fun.

Just watched Khan all the way through for the first time since I was about ten. And what a film it is! Shatner's never been better, and it's amazing just how reserved and understated a lot of his scenes are. The legendary scene between Kirk and Spock at the end is just beautiful.Really wanna catch up with all the others now.

Excited for the next one - Abrams directing again and Lindelof doing some writing duties. Two guys who know how to do good, solid, exciting, interesting entertainment.

I don't think the motion picture, the final frontier and the new star trek - shudder is not even up there, here's my favorite's.
1. the wrath of kahn
2. the search for spock
3. the voyage home
4. the undiscovered country
5. first contact
6. nemesis
7.insurrection

1.Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn
Amazing on all levels.

2.Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
So many layers plus as well as Kirk and McCoy getting a large chunk of the film the Crew actually get there own mini film as they try to rescue Kirk and solve the mystery.

3. Star Trek
Fun and great to see the original characters back.

4. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Funny and great character work by the cast,

5. Star Trek: First Contact
Kick ass action and to see some Trek back history.

6. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Emotional and Bill The Shat in top form

7. Star Trek V: Final Frontier
Not as bad as everyone makes out plus Bill the Shat meets God(ish)

8. Star Trek: Nemesis
Yawn

9. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Meh too long

10. Star Trek: Generations
Wasted.

11. Start Trek: Insurrection
Double Yawn

Tell you what thou… no amount of JJ Abrams special effects makes the Enterprise look as epic as the old model work. Especially in ‘W.O.K’ with that amazing score as she leaves Space Dock.

I watched a lot of these recently and The Undiscovered Country is still the best. Khan and First Contact in 2nd. The 3rd is watchable, part 4 is very watchable. In fact The Voyage Home is always watchable. 5 isn't .... that bad. Enough character moments to keep it going. OK it's quite bad in a number of places. The "motion picture" and the other Next Generation films are completely tedious though. The original movie tries way too hard to emulate 2001 and they all have the problem of a 40 minute amount of writing being stretched over a movie length.

"Star Trek" 2009 is good entertainment, but the momentum kind of goes kaput after the first half and it totally falls apart if you think about too many of the plot points. Mostly good stuff though.

Listing them.... hm

1. The Undiscovered Country
2. First Contact
3. The Wrath of Khan
4. The Voyage Home
5. Star Trek 2009
6. The Search For Spock
7. The Final Frontier
8. The Motion Picture
9. Nemesis
10. Insurrection

Wrath of Khan closely followed by First Contact. I actually like Nemesis even if it is a bit dull.

The new one is exceptionally good, watched it about five times and its entertaining, full of fun, has a great chemistry between the characters (which is important and failed in several of the series that game out), excellently handled by the director and has a great soundtrack which most of the films have too.

I would say the new one is probably my favourite currently since it has rebooted the franchise and got me hooked back into it all again (even going through rewatching the Original Series again which is great!). I do however like a fair few of them for different ways; Khan is a brilliant game-of-wits cum shootout and a heart-rendering ending (Amazing Grace on the Pipes gets me going every time!), Contact zips along at a cracking pace, Undiscovered Country had some brilliant bits in it and an excellent story; Search for Spock had the best soundtrack by miles (though was one of the weaker films) and the Motion Picture has a truely epic feel about it even though it does look a bit dated.

Theres much to enjoy in all the films with exception of  Insurrection which I couldnt get into despite it having the brilliant F. Murray Abraham in it. These are always worth a rewatch every few years, like the LOTR trilogy, or Star Wars films.

I'm boycotting the Star Trek movies on blu ray.Heard that the transfers aren't that good and the DC of the motion picture isn't included.

The 2 disc special editions are more than good enough for me.

Re-wtached my dvd of the 2009 prequel, such an epic film, love it so much. I need to upgrade to the blu-ray but it doesn't have any of the extras on it from the dvd so will keep that and have both.

Just about this one - it's got it all the conspiracy, the action, a wicked space battle and of course Kirk and his crew.

Closely followed in no particular order by 2,3,4 and the reboot which was fantastic. First Contact also gets an honorable mention because it's very good indeed.

I second that motion!

Best movies are:

1. Wrath of Khan (one of the best villains and a great game of cat and mouse, it did feel like Hornblower etc as if they were Captains on old sailing ships trying to outrun, outgun and outwit each other)

2. The Motion Picture (I would even argue in the 1982 full TV version it was possibly the best of all as it did exactly what Star Trek should do... engage the brain as well as have action)

3. The Voyage Home (great entertainment)

I actually love the 1982 TV edition that runs to about 2 hrs and 30 mins or something that feels like that.

I don't like the DC because it omits some key characterisation scenes and indeed we end up at V'Ger too quick.

The whole point of TMP in my opinion is that it is a journey. It is epic.

When we get to V'Ger we should be exhausted!

I really, really love the 1982 TV edition (I had to buy it on VHS and then dub it onto DVD as you can't get it) as it has a key scene with McCoy and Kirk where McCoy expands on his ability to relieve Kirk of his command (which for me is a MAJOR plot point).
