showing a lot of optimism in backing a sequel to a film that even my 10-year old nephew thought was crap.

Between cosying up to producers and selliing dvds on your website - it's had to consider your reviews as impartial.

WHY does empire insist on putting comic book films on the cover almost every month? Especially ones that are certainly going to be rubbish like fantastic four 2. Its almost like its turning into a magazine about comic books instead of about FILMS.... More evidence of epmire going downhill and that Total Film is catching up in terms of a quality read. A shame

Tomdods. That's unfair in some ways. You can hardly blame Empire for putting a top quality, world exclusive image on the cover. You can trust that it won't stop the review from being honest if the film is rubbish too. I understand what you mean about recent covers, but i think that is more a reflection of the fact that the last 6 months has been really quiet for franchise movies and there is a real risk that the summer is going to be disappointing with all the '3' movies risking established reputations. None of that is really Empire's fault though, is it?

What about a 300 cover?? - 21/2/2007 11:59:09 AM

Seeing as 300 is coming out next month, I'm surprized Empire hasn't got this film on the front cover. It is the film most people are excited about in the next couple months and it would be a damn site more interesting than what looks like a Rolls Royce Hodd Ornament.

Nothing wrong with the cover in itself. But it is yet another comic book cover. And not exactly for a highly anticipated release either.

No doubt we'll be getting the second Spider-Man 3 cover shortly as well.

Still better than having Tom Cruise on it, I'll admit.

Well admittedly I usually care about what's in the magazine rather then what is on it... perhaps that is short-sighted of me.  But the cover looks fine, the Silver Surfer looks reasonably impressive, and I'm sure whatever the film is like, it will be reviewed impartially.  300 would have made a very good cover, but then getting WETA to design your cover is a bit of a coup... might as well broadcast the fact!

You should have given us a cover of 300, a movie so awesome - and I quote from a review - "it will give your eyeballs boners when you watch it"! At least give us a poster, some cards, something, c'mon, I mean this is THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR, nothing will even come close to it - you know it, Helen O'Hara!

I love pointless cynicism. Sheesh, it's just a cover and it looks cool. Oh, and Total Film will NOT catch up quality. Empire is still the far superior read by far; and it's not like Total Film don't cosy up to people. An exclusive Clerks II DVD presented by Kevin Smith with this months issue! Wow, that couldn't possibly have something to do with their 5 star score for it, could it? Nah, impossible.

I'd rather have a bit fuck-off silver guy on a magazine than a picture of Mark Wahlberg anyday (I say that because he's in the magazine this month, not because I think he's in 300 for those quick to jump on me). I think a 300 cover would have been cool though, though maybe when the review is actually published we'll see it?

When the Limited Edition runs out, they've just got a brown paper cover with a scrawled message saying "should've bought it earlier sucker, or better still subscribed"

Not a particularly impressive image. Just a shiny bald bloke, which I do realise is true to the source material. It is just not that good a rendering.
