my delivery of 71 issues of astonishing spiderman arrived.....I just need 22 issues to have a complete 150 issue set of every issue of the first volume of re-prints.

I'm going to struggle to get another 71 for 50p each though!

Ordered this to fill a gap:

I have all those in a cupboard back home. As well as Essential X-Men and some other UK reprint series. I'm going to have to offload them one of these days, they're taking up far too much space!

If you're ever looking for someone to take them off your hands let me know! I'd be interested in any of the UK reprint series - they're great value for money even if they are worthless in the long run.

Will do Chojin. I won't be back in Ireland till April next year though so you might have long to wait!

Think I've got complete runs of Astonishing Spider-Man (and the first dozen or so of the title when it relaunched. Oh and some of the previous reprint comic, think it was called Exploits of Spider-Man, it would have reprinted /MacFarlane/Bagley era stuff!), Essential X-Men, Wolverine Unleashed/& Gambit/& Deadpool as well as a bunch of other titles they released like the Cap/Thor/Iron Man comic, Avengers. I think Hulk had his own comic for a while there too

Those reprint mags were great value. Three US comics for the price of one and they'd often cherry-pick the best stories of each character. The first dozen or so issues of Wolverine Unleased were absolutely fantastic. There ended up being far too many of them though! Got a bunch of the Batman and Superman reprints too. The Batman one was always great!

Had this delivered today! The presentation of this book is absolutely beautiful! And worth it for a tenner!

EDIT: I gotta thank furrybastard for this purchase, I heard of this title for a while now, but seeing it on his list above, got me determined to buy it! That and the fact the whole premise is so fucking awesome!

Yep, very chunky indeed! Infact, its quite possibly the best presented TPB i've ever bought! The extra's alone take up 40 + pages - and I love the Pulp British Sci-fi feature too. Look out for Moritat's excellent Blade Runner/Taxi Driver homage in the artwork section!

The Underwater Welder by Jeff Lemire

Went to the book launch of this in Toronto yesterday where Lemire gave a talk. Some interesting stuff and a lot of behind-the-scenes looks at his evolving plans for the book.

You'll have to let me know your thoughts on that furry, I've been eying it up myself. I read most of Lemire's current run on Animal Man over the weekend and was really impressed. I've heard really good things about Sweet Tooth as well so I may start picking up the trades for that too.

I liked it a lot. It feels in some ways like a thematic sequel to Lemire's Essex County so it's definitely worth a read, though The Nobody is still my personal favourite of his works. A lot of the ideas in TUW are similar to a lot of his other work, the father/son relationship, isolation etc. and the artwork is incredible. Sweet Tooth is well worth a read; the first trade is relatively slight in terms of story (you'll tear through it pretty quickly, probably only stopping to take a good look at his art!) but later volumes are more substantial. The last third of The Underwater Welder has some great creepy moments too.

I'm still reading Animal Man but it's been treading water for a while now as it takes its time building up to the RotWorld crossover. At the talk I attended last weekend, Lemire said Frankenstein: Agent of Shade - which I'd been really liking and is still very enjoyable now that Matt Kindt has taken over writing duties - is pretty close to being cancelled by DC and plans are for Frank to join Justice League Dark. Lemire also mentioned he's a new series for Vertigo planned once Sweet Tooth finishes up and a couple of other projects that he's not allowed to talk about (one of which will feature lots of female characters, as Lemire feels he needs to get better at drawing them!)

Just waiting for the trade to arrive collecting the first six issues to I can read this!

EDIT: Just realised how similar the covers for my last two posts are: how odd!

HABIBI

Just had this delivered today! The detail on the cover is absolutely stunning, it's like hold a copy of the Qur'an in your hands! And the artwork inside is absolutely sumptious!

I've been meaning to read this graphic novel for a while now, and I have to say that a hardback 630 plus pages of awesome-ness for only 10.00 from Amazon - bargain of the year!

I've picked up Hawkeye #01 as well, looking forward to giving it a read.

Also picked up Avengers vs X-Men #09, Epic Kill #04 and Avengers Academy #34.

AvX is building up a head of steam now we're entering the final straight. I really hope Scott Summers, Emma Frost and Illyana Rasputin meet a grisly end. It's a shame the writers have made them so hateful, it becomes too easy to choose a side then, still it hasn't been too bad an event so far although that's mainly been due to the quality of the crossover titles rather than the core series.

It was quite good. Lovely art! It kind of feels like doing what a Hawkeye movie/TV show might be like. Nice amount of humour and to be honest, it's the first time I've ever read anything where Hawkeye was actually interesting.

Extermination #1 was great fun. The first issue was only $1 and it's written by Simon Spurrier (2000AD, Gutsville, X-Club, Crossed: Wish You Were Here). It's pretty much a comic where Batman teams up with an evil Reed Richards in a Mad Max type post-apocalyptic world. Quite funny in places and it'll be interesting to see where it goes after the events at the end of the first issue.

Debris #1 was another post-apocalyptic comic. More great art and a very interesting main character. The world wasn't too fleshed out in the first issue but there's plenty of time for that. Those weird techno-dragon things are pretty cool.

Both Concrete and Beast of Burdens one-shots are collected from short stories originally featured in Dark Horse Presents. Both brilliant, as you'd expect from series with such high standards historically (and if you haven't read either, go do that right now!)

Also picked up these trades yesterday...

Chew Vol. 4 by John Layman & Rob Guillory

Empowered Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 by Adam Warren

The Best American Comics Series 2010 edited by Neil Gaiman

Dark Horse Maverick: Happy Endings by Various

The Fog by Scott Allie & Todd Herman

Another gap filler - just 6 more gaps between 1-150

I'm going to enjoy reading through the spidey era that first got me into the character back in '96. A lot of people hate the clone saga era but for me it was my first taste of spidey and i can't wait to (hopefully) enjoy re-reading the magic.

Furry, do you have any idea as to when the hell we're going to get this delivered? When I made the pre-order it said 33 days to go, well that is well over now, and when I go into my account, all it say's is 'unavailable'? Do you have any idea as to what The Book Depository are playing at? I'd love to hear if you're in a similar position. In the mean time,, I think i'll e-mail them. I've been waiting for so long to get it delivered its bloody frustrating!

Just a quick update on this. Image's website has been updated with a release date of August 22nd though that may mean a week or two later for the UK. Also cover art (I think?!) is up! (CLICK)
