This was one of the biggest disappointments last year. I went on the basis of the Empire review, never having seen Firefly...........What a pile of arse.
I can't believe that Empire named it as one of the film highlights of 2005!!!
What is Joss Whedon's fascination with fighting women; it seems he can't make a successful movie or TV series without one!!! Wonder Woman for his next project! A match made in heaven!
I'm sure I'll get lynched by a load of fanboys! I've already had the endless speeches by my mates who worship the ground on which Joss walks........

 Really wanted to see this in the cinema, but missed it. I was hoping for something that would blow me away. Sorry fanboys, but I just don't get the obsession. It's fine, I don't dislike it, but it just isn't close to being as good as I was hoping. I just didn't get sucked in and taken on a ride.

 I saw this without having watched even the first episode of the series (well, about ten minutes) and absolutely loved it. This is science fiction for the people who say they hate it - no lasers, silly costumes or aliens with knobbly foreheads (and I love sci-fi) - just a good story and some great action. It inspired me to actually sit down and watch the series, which IMO actually beats the late, great Farscape in style and tone (although only just).

I don't think it was ever going to be an easily marketable concept. I thought they might concentrate on one main character, such as River, and market around her, but they seemed to want to go with the group thing.

I have never seen the Firefly series but I do rate Joss Whedon, and so thought I would watch Serenity.  I did not think it was a terrible film, I totally understand why people like it, but for me, I did not think it was enjoyable.  It all seemed like, if u wanna watch some really good sci-fi this would not be it, it felt like it was trying to be the best when it really was not.  I was also very annoyed by the women who played the engineer who falls in love with the doctor.  She was a very bad actress in my opinion and kept distracting me.  When they killed off the only character I was really interested in seeing more of - Wash, that was very annoying and jarring, as I did not think it was necessary!

 you don't have to hgave seen firefly yo enjoy serenity but in the end it is simply your loss as both the film and series are worth more than a little respect.

I've never seen Firefly although I like Joss Whedons writing, so I decided to watch this and rather enjoyed it.  I didn't find it hard to follow, and I really liked the use of language in the movie.  The one gripe I would have (which keeps it B-movie and out of Star Wars league) was the lack of money shots, but if you make the film with little of said money, you obviously won't have many.
 
Better than the Star Wars prequels though...

Great fun! Such a wonderful mix of action, drama, a lil emotion, and loads of humour. Seriously, this is one funny film! I don't rate it quite as highly as Revenge Of The Sith but it's still brilliant. Summer Glau and Nathan Fillion kick ass!

When I originally went to see this at the cinema back in October, I had no idea what to expect. I'd never seen the TV series Firefly before, so this was completely new to me.

By the time I left the cinema, I had just seen one of the most enjoyable films of 2005. There is brilliant, often funny dialogue, and great acting, most notably from Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau as the eerie River Tam.

All of the original cast of Firefly are in this film, the most recognisable being Alan Tudyk, who has also starred in I, Robot and Dodgeball. Another addition to the cast of Serenity is England's own Chiwetel Ejiofor, playing a cold-blooded assassin.

Overall, I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure film that's not too corny, with plenty of thrills and laughs. I give it 8/10.

i fell asleep the first time i watched it..but then i woke up, left it a few days, and watched it again...and again...and again....

Having never seen Firefly or been a fan of Buffy, I should have heeded the warning that the director was also the creator of the Gellar filled shitfest.

I really cant remember the last time I have laughed so hard at such poor acting and putrid dialogue. I found no redeeming features at all. Even the special effects looked like they had been borrowed from third rate sci-fi TV series. Or was that intentional?

Having said that, my hopes were upped somewhat by learning of some evil people called "Reevers" or something. "ooh" I thought, at least it may contain some horrible looking people massacring others.

But no. The "evil" Reevers turned out to be badly dressed Xena cast-offs, which just made things worse.

I'm sure you probably need to be a fan of the series to enjoy this (I can see why it was cancelled), but for any film to stand alone it needs to have something for those not in the know.

This didnt. So, if you havent seen the series, avoid like MRSA.

Haven't seen Firefly, got this on a rental after reading nothing but good reviews. Now making a point of getting hold of Firefly, and then watching Serenity again! I'm told it's even better if you've already seen Firefly!

Not for me but not a bad film. Reasonable pacing and good imagination will keep you interested but repeatedly bad acting and dialogue take you out of the moment time and again. Ejiofor, comfortably the best thing in it shows the other cast members how its done. One for the fans.

Very tight in places, pure Josh Weadon style, very predicatble in other places, still has a few suprises. Not ground breaking, but great entertainment, Good solid fun sci-fi flick.

Sales of the DVD have been good for Universal,with a 2 disc Special Edition Release due out August 21st-The Cast's Option for being picked up for a Sequel ends in,I think,November..Hopefully continued sales will influence the chance of a Sequel

BRILLIANT! This film blew me away. The action was superb, there is never a dull moment throughout the film. Then great dialogue that george lucas only wish he could come up with is right on the money.
Nathan fillon is fantastic as malcolm reynolds and adam baldwin as jayne is really funny. The reavers are great baddies and chiwetel ejiofor is alos very good. Maybe cause im a fan of all joss whedon whether it be buffy, angel or firefly, that i loved this so much. In the same year as revenge of the sith was released, serenity put it to shame and in my opinion was a much better film. Now if only a sequel could be made.
