There's no doubt I'll be swiftly ostracized from Small Screen for what I'm about to say, but... The definitive years of SNL are 1988-93, featuring these cast-members: Jon Lovitz Victoria Jackson Jan Hooks Dana Carvey Phil Hartman Mike Myers Kevin Nealon Chris Farley Chris Rock Julia Sweeney David Spade Adam Sandler Tim Meadows and Rob Schneider. Yes, Rob Schneider! Regrettably I stopped watching when most of them left and the 'newbies' came into the picture. (i.e. Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Jimmy Fallon, Molly Shannon)

The Wire is surely the best TV show ever broadcast in America. This claim isn't based on my having seen all the possible rivals for the title, but on the premise that no other program has ever done anything remotely like what this one does, namely to portray the social, political, and economic life of an American city with the scope, observational precision, and moral vision of great literature. The Wire has never won an emmy? [It] deserves the Nobel Prize for Literature!
