I tried to narrow it down to a top 20 songs.

It's not easy is it?  I read your list going oh I didn't put that one in or that one.

Maybe it would be easier to list 20 songs we didn't like.

Saw Brucie at Old Trafford in Manchester the other week with my sister - she is the Brucie fan, me I'm appreciative of The Boss, shall we say, rather than a fan, and that's because my sister forced me to listen to his stuff while we shared a room living with our folks.

He is in fine fettle anyway, seemed very cheery, very energetic, and quite frankly it was brilliant.

I don't know if anyone else here was at Old Trafford but probably my favourite moment was when he did a request for the little boy wearing the ear defenders who was right near the front. Awwwww.

Marling > Wainwright. Still.

That said, they're both very good and fairly early in their careers. Marling especially. We'll see how it goes.

I could see Marling becoming the British Suzanne Vega. Possibly. She has the potential. I may be being baselessly optimistic here though. but we'll see.

I've now got that going round my head now and I've only just got Out in the Street out of my head.

Bought a couple of great Bruce Tee-Shirts from his website. They took less than a week to be dispatched and delivered from the states.

I just got back from a Stateside trip that took in a week in Asbury Park! Saw Madame Marie's (now run by her granddaughter), the boardwalk, the old ex-casino where he shot the Tunnel of Love video, the Stone Pony etc. Honestly, the place is like Bruce Land.

Would post photos but being a complete techno-idiot I can't make it work, but watch this space.

If you're ever there then go to the public library, they have a staggering collection of Bruce-related stuff.

At the risk of overshadowing my own earlier news...

quote:

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S "WORKING ON A DREAM" SET FOR JANUARY 27 RELEASE

Bruce Springsteen's new album "Working on a Dream" has been set for a January 27 release on Columbia Records. "Working on a Dream" was recorded with the E Street Band and features twelve new Springsteen compositions plus two bonus tracks. It is the fourth collaboration between Springsteen and Brendan O'Brien, who produced and mixed the album.

"Working on a Dream" Song Titles:

1. Outlaw Pete
2. My Lucky Day
3. Working on a Dream
4. Queen of the Supermarket
5. What Love Can Do
6. This Life
7. Good Eye
8. Tomorrow Never Knows
9. Life Itself
10. Kingdom of Days
11. Surprise, Surprise
12. The Last Carnival

Bonus tracks:
The Wrestler
A Night with the Jersey Devil

Bruce Springsteen said, "Towards the end of recording 'Magic,' excited by the return to pop production sounds, I continued writing. When my friend producer Brendan O'Brien heard the new songs, he said, 'Let's keep going.' Over the course of the next year, that's just what we did, recording with the E Street Band during the breaks on last year's tour. I hope 'Working on a Dream' has caught the energy of the band fresh off the road from some of the most exciting shows we've ever done. All the songs were written quickly, we usually used one of our first few takes, and we all had a blast making this one from beginning to end."

"Working on a Dream" is Bruce Springsteen's twenty-fourth album and was recorded and mixed at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, GA with additional recording in New York City, Los Angeles, and New Jersey.

Are we excited yet?

Hmm, have to say, on first listens, I don't really like Working on a Dream. Considering the strength of Radio Nowhere before Magic was released thisnew single is dissapointing. Hopefully the album will be better anyway.

I really like Devils and Dust, although it took me a few listens to fully appreciate it. The music is sparse, and Bruce at times sings in a bizarre Neil Young-esque falsetto. However, there are many superb songs, 'The Hitter', 'Black Cowboys' and the heartbreaking 'Reno' are right up there with his best.
