Springsteen looks like Mickey Rourke now, which is rather depressing.

So, a new album to coincide with his Summer tour. To be released in March and called Wrecking Ball. First single from the new album called We Take Care Of Own

What do we think?

I'm not a huge fan of Bruces later output. It all sounds the same to me. And this latest song is no different. Sounds exactly the same as the last couple of albums. I'll probably give it a listen at some point however. I do like the artwork.

I really like it. It's similiar to a lot of his later stuff but I think it's great.

Had to share my excitement at finally getting round to getting myself some Springsteen tickets. Faffed aroun so long that Hyde Park sold out, but that actually worked nicely for me as it meant I could persuade my party to go to Sunderland instead - was much keener on a stadium gig (where the standing area can only be the size of a football pitch) rather than 60,000 people all cramming in. Now I can also congratulate myself on being a true Springsteen fan as I'm travelling from Brighton to Sunderland to see him! Wish I'd just done it sooner and booked up a European show or two to be honest - maybe next time. Now i just need to resist the temptation to get a Manchester ticket and do a little Northern road trip.

Have to say, though, whilst I'm trying to listen to all of the tracks online (don't want the moment I get to put a new Springsteen disc in the CD player ruined), I'm not particularly liking Wrecking Ball at the moment, except for "Land of Hope and Dreams", which doesn't really count since it's a 15 year old song!

My fears about the new album have been demolished. This song is outstanding http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TMp7KKKJ2Ug

Its not a new theme for Springsteen but I don't think anyone is thinking he will and he sings about hardships so well so why stop him? This song does however, introduce new ideas that I've never heard from him before and it works so so well.

I was never a big fan of the boss until around 2 months ago. I heard Thunder Road on the radio and slowly became more and more addicted to it. Now I am suddenly starting to see why this guy is so legendary.

Incredible lyrics in that song. The bit from" There were ghosts in the eyes" all the way to "I'm pulling out of here to win" is fast becoming one of my favourite music segments ever.

The songs from Wrecking Ball are shaping up to be his strongest in years. I think Magic was a tremendous return to form but this is looking even better.

I'm definitely looking forward to buying the new Wrecking Ball album's deluxe edition next week. The two bonus tracks are Swallowed Up (In the belly of the whale) and American Land, the song he's been performing in concert since 2006 or so.

On last Friday night's Jimmy Fallon chat show (2/3/2012), Bruce and the E Street Band with the horn section (and Clarence Clemons' nephew Jake) played Death to My Hometown, Jack Of All Trades, and the E Street Shuffle.

I humbly ask for this great threads forgiveness. A few months ago I posted about Bruce's new album and how I was not anticipating much from it due to his less than great output in the last few years. I am now on my knees.

Wrecking Ball is a belter. Moving, compelling and thought-provoking. Each track is stronger than the last and his embrace of new sounds has worked very well. Jack Of All Trades, Death To My Hometown, Rocky Ground. My god, it is amazing.

Forgive me Bruce, I beg you.

Well saw my first Springsteen gig at Hyde Park on Saturday and loved it. Now I don't know all his songs and ain't heard many of his albums, but growing up my old man was a fan of his so have heard some stuff and I have one of his greatest hit cds. The GF wanted to go so I went as well. So glad I did, 3 hours of excellent. You can tell Bruce just loves playing live and making sure the crowd get value for money.
A shame the sound was switch off at the end as I'm sure Bruce would have played more. Shall get tickets the next time he tours the UK again.

Yeah the gig itself was sensational. Seen him in 2009 and the Hyde Park one blew it way out of the water. My favourite bit was when he sat down on the steps with Jake Clemons during Spirit In The Night to chat about Clarence and the Tom Morello addition on The Ghost Of Tom Joad. And of course McCartney made all my gig dreams come true.

It depends where you are standing but did you question the sound levels on Saturday? It definitely felt like it could have been louder, especially during songs like Born In The USA and Dancing In The Dark. My boyfriend sings loud but I don't think he should be able to drown out Bruce during Glory Days! I had to tell him to stop because we genuinely couldn't hear anything!

EDIT After the gig, I read up on the restrictions that have been forced on organisers of events in Hyde Park by the residents surrounding it. It's quite shambolic really. I don't think I'll be going to another Hyde Park gig. Seen Pulp there in 2010 and they were amazing, but if the restrictions have been put in place after that, it was obvious.

I got a last-minute ticket on Friday night so was well chuffed that I managed to be able to go. When he opened with Thunder Road it was a dream come true. I always wanted to see him perform it live and when Clarence died I knew I'd never hear the full band version as I would like due to the sax being such an integral part but the fact that he just done it with a solo piano just like Hammersmith Odeon in 75 (my favourite version of the song), it absolutely made my year.

Loved the rest of the gig especially Spirit in the Night and We Are Alive. Darlington County was an absolute riot too.

Did anyone else think Steven Van Zandt seemed a bit peed off the whole gig? He didn't seem to loosen up until the last 3 or 4 songs.

I've always thought Van Zandt was a bit of a stiff guitarist on stage. He never moves his feet and just stays rooted to the spot unless Bruce asks him to move.

Nils Lofgren blew me away with his solo on Because The Night. Bloody belter of a song but wow can Nils play!

Apparently there were a lot of people complaining post-gig that the sound was low enough to be practically background noise for those towards the back of the crowd.  Sometimes you gotta wonder about the conversation that went on when the council granted a license for the gigs - "It'll be a huge night of rock and roll!"  "OK, but don't stay up past your bedtime and turn that bloody music down".  Really, if the residents around Hyde Park can't put up with a couple of nights in which they may just have to close their windows to hear their tele, then another venue should be sought.

Steff, have you ever listened to any of Nils Lofgren's solo work?  He really is quite the guitarist and one hell of a showman on stage.  He famously used to have a small trampoline built into one of his monitors and would leap on it and do a full backflip mid-solo  -I'm sure you'll find youtube footage if you search!

Just read that last night's Bruce & E Street show lasted 4 hours and 6 minutes, which is supposedly the longest Bruce concert ever. He also performed a 5 song acoustic set for the crowd before the concert started. Amazing!
