Thanks, Felix. Do the same characters/actors appear in Caprica as in BSG?

No. There is a very young William Adama but I dont think he's that central to the story.

But there are quite a couple of actresses who were in BSG who are also in Caprica - two that I've noticed anyway (Kat the Viper pilot and another lady whose character name in BSG I can't remember, think she's a Raptor pilot or something like that) which is perhaps enough to be more than a coincidence but we'll see.

Definitely worth checking out Caprica Becks, it's just going from strength to strength.

Personally I have given up on it due to sheer boredom.

So many differing opinions ... who to believe ??? Guess I'll just have to try Caprica and see for myself. Anyway, time to return to Battlestar Gallactica ...

I'm guessing the first guy who commented wasn't overly fond of the last episode.

A little harsh I would say.

I just recently got round to seeing The Plan - it was a great reminder how superb BSG was. It did seem a bit rushed though considering it spanned the whole series and I reckon it should have been expanded to cover more episodes.

New show in the works?

http://www.sfx.co.uk/2010/03/16/second-battlestar-spin-off/

As good as Caprica is I have to say I'd enjoy seeing something more Fleet based - maybe even the first Cylon war?

The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan reports that Syfy is contemplating an online series about Young William Adama's adventures in the first war with the Cylon, written by "Galactica”/”Caprica” vet Michael Taylor.

The whole series, titled "Blood & Chrome,” would only be 90 or 100 minutes long, comprised of 10 short episodes of nine or 10 minutes.

Adama may not be the only character returning from the straight-to-DVD BSG movie "Razor,” which suggests Adama's hot wartime bunkmate might be back as well.
While "Chrome” has not yet been greenlit, the project could serve as a backdoor pilot for a new Syfy series.

Honestly - maybe as a single tv movie. I don't need a whole show devoted to the First Cylon War.

My gut feeling now is that we should have just left it with the mother series. These spin offs are all well and good, but the story has been told, and no way will Sci-Fi pay for battles every week.

As with anything if it's done right I won't mind. I love the universe. My only issue is if they start making plot revalations which contradict what we learn in the main series.

I havent and probably still wont watch any of the BSG spin offs. Its the main central characters and plot I had the connection with.

Seeing a different actor play a young Adama has no appeal for me.

I've been thinking of seeing the original show for a while now, and I came across these today in a charity shop.

I know that there's the series proper I need as well, but does the first one serve as an introduction to the show overall, much like the 2004 mini-series?

The top one is the pilot episode. It was re-edited into a movie over here in the UK. It is worth seeing if you are curious about the old show.

The second DVD is a hate crime of a tv series. Basically, after the proper wasn't renewed, Glen Larson was offered the chance to make Galatica 1980 on a much reduced budget, with hardly any of the cast, and kids. Lots of kids. Most of the die hard BSG 70s fans tend to not want to acknowledge it.

Well, I'll watch any old crap. And it was only 50p .

I'll give the pilot a shot soon though, before I decide whether or not to get the full series. Cheers!

Just got to the end of watching BSG today. For the most part I enjoyed it, but I did feel it lagged a bit in places. Mind, after taking ages to get through series one, I rattled through the last three series in pretty much the last fortnight, which is a record for me in TV watching terms.

Thought when it really fired it was excellent, but I just didn't quite feel it all the way through the way I have with other programs, and I can't put my finger on why. And this is despite liking pretty much every character, I feel that is a rarity as even programs I have loved have had one or two people I don't like.

Also, wasn't overly keen on the final episode. The last hour, Laura's passing aside, was pretty weak I thought.

I love the final episode (in its Extended form) so damn much. To me it is one of the single best pieces of sci-fi produced on the small or big screen. Epic, moving and at its heart always about the characters, where they have come from and where they go, but also an acknowledgement that they are just of a much grander and deeper puzzle that is existance.

Best sci-fi show ever. Anyone know what Ronald D. Moore is doing next? I wish there were more shows like this being made, it seems he is one of the few smart enough to do them with this and DS9.

Nice. I think there's quite a bit of potential in a series about the first war. One small thing though, isn't it established in Razor that Adama hadn't flown in combat before the battle depicted in that episode and that was the final battle of the war?

Really? I'm not so sure about this one.

Honestly, Caprica is a much braver and interesting concept and genuinely sci-fi. This seems much more about the bang bang factor, which is fine, but feels like a regression rather than progression of the themes of the franchise.
