ORIGINAL: MrsFinkelstein http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19892102 puts it better than I can. "The opinion polls right now do suggest that. The most dramatic is Pew, which gives Mr Romney a four point lead - last month they found Mr Obama had an eight-point lead. I'm not putting much faith in daily polling. Right now Romney's bounce is just that; it won't be until another week until we see whether that holds in any meaningful way. Remember that the media has a vested interest in making this race as dramatic and 'close' as possible. The fact that they're writing so many articles on daily polls - which everyone knows are practically meaningless without any context - shows just how much they rely on somewhat articficial twists and turns that you get in a campaign (like various gaffes etc.) to fill content. Yeah, I mucked up the quoting, those were actually Mark Mardell's words, I was trying to show that any 'gains' Romney has made are not actually that significant. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/10/presidential-polls-2012_n_1953910.html?utm_hp_ref=politics&utm_hp_ref=politics - this suggests it was only a temporary bounce for Romney. The Right have seized on the debate and it has recharged Romney's campaign, but they've forgotten it's still another month till election day, and there's still another 2 debates. Romney has already started changing his position on contraception and abortion - forcing his campaign team into damage control. You think there might be a chance of Obama coming back? There seems to be a lot of judging of the candidates by the candidates' behaviour and Gallup and Pew seem to be favouring him by a margin. Obama actually managed to fuck this up. Yeah, I don't think this is as bad as some of the media would like to indicate. When you watch the the debate Obama wasn't actually BAD, he was calm, measured, what he said made sense, and he made some good points. Romney 'appeared' better as he appeared more animated and fired up - but he outright lied and changed his position on many issues. I do have faith that, despite how they are portrayed, that the majority of voting Americans are mature, intelligent, responsible adults who can see past the spin. Yes, there will be some who can't see past Faux News' output (and they seem to get a lot of media coverage), but I don't believe that's a typical picture. Just after the debate there were some soundbites of views: all 3 said Romney came across better than they had expected - didn't mean they believed him - 1 said "Romney won the Emmy for best performance at a debate, but he's not going to win this election". I don't think this will be a landslide result in anyway, but I still think Obama will win. The fact the economy is improving - albeit slowly - and unemployment is down, that I believe will have a bigger impact.
