I read that they'll be doing 2 seasons per book from now on to give time to Martin to finish the latest books

Hah, if they wait for that they will have time to finish them all and remake season 1 and 2!

The man writes at the speed of glacial drift!

He keeps getting distracted by shiny new things. It's all well and good him writing for the show, but he should realise the books need to finish before the show catches him up. Then there's the short stories he writes, and the rumours that he now wants to do a prequel series. He's got the attention span of a gnat, that man.

The giant was class, absolutely loved. Wish they'd had that technology when Harry Potter started filming, Hagrid really should've been about that size. Can't wait to see them in action.

Yes! First thing I thought of!

I think that was my favourite part of the episode, seeing the giant for the first time.

I cannot belive that HBO has the balls to make this into a show. For those of you that might not like fantasy books Martin is the finest writer I have come across in very very long time. These arent kids books but rather Lord of the Rings as directed by Paul Verhoeven. I just watched his "Flesh and Blood" and that has the same tone the Martin books do. Grubby medievil warfare and all its brutalites shot through the prism of a fantasy novel - heck the "fantasy" isn't even that strong - no elves or orcs in these books.

If this does go ahead I will be very very excited. However if they couldn't afford two seasons of Rome at 100 million each I have no idea how they are going to fund this.

It does seem to answer the question as to what HBO is going to do after Rome, The Sopranos, Deadwood and The Wire have all been cancelled or are in there final seasons. This, along with Preacher and the American Revolution drama make me very excited for upcoming television.

Holllaaaa.... Im joining in quite late to this show, but im having a great catch up given spartacus and the office are nearly done and Walking Dead is done for another year. Halfway through season 2 and looking to be with you guys before the next episode of S3 comes out.

Im really loving the show, I had thought it was something similar to Spartacus before, but how wrong I was! The quality and production value really shines through. Just thought i would highlight the point in bold as you can tell how detailed the books must be...

I probably wont read them as i have started another book, but again, just wanted to say Im really enjoying the show so far. Ill be chiming in a bit more once im up to speed!

I have a small question about the battle at Blackwater Bay (i think) between Stannis Baratheon and Joffrey.... why couldnt Stannis just send that ghost thing he used to dispatch Renley with? Simpulz. Also, when Bran his brother, the wildling girl and Odo came out of hiding, how did they not find the Stark army? Im guessing Theons men did it and traded Theon in or made a run for it and the army left it alone (i think im right in saying it was one of Robbs uncles "bastards" that lead that army?).

Lots of favorite characters.... Tywin, John Snow, Robb Eddard and Bran. Glad I finally caught up with the lot.

Last point: I guess i should get in line for a direwolf?

As I recall from the book (will invisi-text it, but it's not really a spoiler):

It needs someone powerful to 'father' it, i.e. a king, but it gets weaker if they do it too often, so Stannis couldn't do it again so soon. Must be his age

You could be right Base but I assumed it was because Stannis wants to be seen to be defeating Joffrey in battle thereby legitimising his ascension to the throne. I think it also goes back to what Davos said in season 2, something about the Melisandre winning Stannis's wars for him.

I can't remember how they sneak out in the books. The bastard leading the army is that of Lord Bolton (see below) who is bannerman of the Starks, no relation.

Could be he just wanted to show how hard he is, but what I said makes sense, otherwise all he has to do to raise an unstoppable army is keep shagging Melisandre

Well he'd have to be fairly hard to shag an army out of her

Jamie of House Clegane ... Red Priestess? I'm just gonna make that Priest.

What did we all think of this week's episode? I thought it was great, probably one of the most enjoyable episodes of the whole series so far.

It's the best episode I've seen so far. And that's obviously a massive compliment because it's always been good. Every scene was a masterclass IMO. A lot of subtlety (no gratuity in nipples this week). The new characters are so fully formed that they look as if they've been waiting in the wings the entire time, which is exactly the feeling you get when George brings in new characters to the books.

There were some massively, effortlessly cool touches. Brienne's little flourish when she bests Jamie, and Jamie's line about Renly was so wonderfully offensive it was just pure Jamie.

Have to agree; everything was excellent last night.

And it was filled with more recognizable actors than ever before, Diana Rigg, Paul Kaye, Mackensie Crook, that kid from Love Actually, the werewolf girl from Being Human, and Simon from Misfits.

Im getting more and more convinced that removal of tv breaks would show that its only on for twenty minutes. Plus with jumping from characters it seems like they only get a minute each!

There seem to be a lot of people that 'missed' Diana Rigg. Were you watching it with your eyes closed?!

Was I the only one who was dissatisfied with the episode (and the start to this season in fact)?

It's getting to a point now where everyone is in the process of moving from one place to another and those journey's are becoming abit too samey. On top of that, these journey's don't indicate that something BIG is going to happen at the end of them - except Daenery's. If this is a reflection of the books then i'm glad i've given up reading them.

I miss the first season where most of the characters were in one place and shit was going down - all of the sneaking around seems weightless when hardly anyone is in the same place.

That said - i'm really liking the addition of Joffrey's new wife to be, her name escapes me atm.

When will we see Ser Barristan Selmy in action? He was the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and personal bodyguard to the King. Isn't he meant to be the greatest swordsman in the Seven Kingdoms?

Also, Brienne besting Jamie Lannister in a duel is laughable. The Kingslayer toyed with Ned Stark ffs.
