I think all the women must have it written into their contract that they must be willing to get semi-naked at some point The brothel scene was completely unnecessary (other than to show what Baelish is capable of) and Ros as a character is taking away valuable screen time from other characters who need it more. Though it was interesting to see a former pornstar make a cameo in the brothel

Though I'll give you I didn't name her first- I didn't want to be the first to openly admit it

Bizarrely this episode, which most people feel is one of the strongest of the entire series so far, was actually the least viewed of this season! Why would you stop watching that close to the end?

That's very odd. Maybe they presumed the big attack would be the finale and that this one was just going to be preparation?

Sorry forgot to say they are US figures only. I think there was a college basketball game final which may have had quite a big impact.

EDIT:

Also it was Memorial Day weekend which apparently always see a ratings decline so that was probably a major factor too. And I think the figures only take into account the live viewings and not people who record and watch later...could be wrong though.

Ah good, for a second there I thought I might have mixed him up with Cersei's boy toy!

Anyway, apologies if this has been posted before but I found it quite amusing (spoilers for season 1 in case anyone isn't that far yet)

Think your right but surely the Tully's control the Riverlands? As the map displays each area with boarders etc. Sure they each have their "captials" but they own/control the surrounding lands.

Yet Harrenhal in the Riverlands appears to be owned by Tywin? Unless they captured it during the war?

If you remember back to Season One, when Ed Stark was The Hand he held council in which he was informed that The Mountain and Lannister soldiers were sacking and burning their way through the Riverlands.

Indeed I remember. I guess I never truly thought of the war being on from then. I didn't get the sense of scale from that scene. It sounded more like the Mountain had a mob of men just pillaging small villages. Rather than assaulting the capital etc. We never hear of the Riverlands after that either? Plus Catlyn never asks for her fathers help, but she still commands respect from her origins in the tavern when they first capture Tyrion. Is her father ill or something?

Bloody hell I've watched the first season about four times. I swear my memory is going!

I felt they did a good job setting us up for S3, they had alot to cover in one episode after last week focused on the battle. My question is who burnt down Winterfell? Was it Theon and his men? Or the Bastard sent by the Starks? Or should I just relax and wait and it will be revealed?

I'm guessing it was Theon's men. But you never know.

It was an ok episode but did feel like a bit of a set up for next season. Finally towards the end Daenerys got good again and her dragons can finally do something. It was a bit easy for them though wasn't it? I'm going to take a guess that when the whitewalkers invade it'll be the dragons that defeat them and save Westeros. On the way I really hope the dragons turn the Lannisters (apart from Tyrion) into kebabs. Oh, and that Daenerys gets her boobs out again.

I can't understand why it seems Tyrion is outcast from the Lannisters now? Tywin respects him and would surely trust his account of the battle and how it was Tyrion's actions that helped save King's Landing.

Where did the 500 Stark men surrounding Winterfell go? Surrounded, forced the Iron Islanders out and then phuck off and leave? Why not just hold Winterfell? WHy not search the place? Then they'd have found the bleeding old man and the young uns.

I do not get the Winterfell stuff at all. Resolved very unsatisfactorily.

Dragons. Don't phuck with her dragons.

I don't get the White Walkers either. The one at the very kick off of Season 1 looked black and Predatorish. That one at the end looked like an OAP version of Iron Maiden's Eddie.

Definitely think they left themselves too much to do in the last episode.

I thought it was a poor enough finale all in all and was a good example of the show's weakest aspect. The need to cover so much plot so quickly sometimes means GoT comes across as just moving the pieces around without any real sense of drama or suspense. It's all setting up something to set something else up to set something else up. Ep 9 was fantastic because it allowed them to focus in on one story for a change and just tell a story, as opposed to the finale where all they're doing is telling the plot.

Still, looking forward to season 3.

As with season 1, the penultimate episode was the finale and the last one is an epilogue, but it was still good all the same.

I can't figure out Winterfell, presumably the iron islanders traded Theon for being allowed to leave, but in the case surely they wouldn't have burnt the hold and risk pissing off the Northerners further!?!?

Second year in a row I was reading the book when it started and it overtook me, will have to hurry up and finish and maybe found this stuff out!!!

I have the next few books (haven't read them, this isn't a spoiler at all!!!) and book 3 in hardback is split in 2 in paperback, it's frickin' mahoosive!!! Do we know if they are going to do the same with the series and have the next 2 seasons cover all of book 3???

I really think this season needed to be around 13 episodes, or even 15 in an ideal world. Would've given the various threads room to breathe and much more focus in episodes.

\Ive got all the books (so far) on my Kindle, is the conclusion of the second series the same as the conclusion of the book or have they played around with it? I'm going to have a stab at reading them.

Like Boaby, I was a bit confused about Winterfell...they must have traded Theon to get out, but that makes it all quite pointless in the first place. Go into Winterfell, kill a few folk, kid on you've murdered the younglings, then go home? I quite enjoyed it all though, we knew it was going to be a case of tying up and setting up all the various threads. Jon Snow is going to get that Mance Rayder fella to help him help Robb out eventually. In fact if he's not the King of Over The wall (or whatever they call it) by the end of it, I'll eat my shoes......

Wouldn't make sense for Stark allies to burn down Winterfell. So I'd assume it was Theons men.In regards to Theon ... I am not sure if they knocked him out to take him home and escape or traded him for safe passage.

On the one hand how could they escape? They were surrounded. Theon may have mentioned the secret escape tunnels?
On the other if they traded him who burnt down Winterfell? Why kill the old man if not to hide their cowardice/common sense to retreat. Why didn't the Stark allied troops hold it? The boys could have stayed if they did!?

Daenerys ending felt so tacked on for me. The warlock was a complete let down. I'd have liked to have seen her outwit him more. Possibly find the real warlock and chain herself to him. Then the dragons could have burnt both of them. Yet she would have been fine. A bit more dramatic. Plus she would have been completely naked afterwards and we would get to see everything.

I've always thought Danerys would end up being a bit of a saviour for westeros. White walkers + her burning everyone would be a bit too bleak methinks!

- Cersi outright tried to have him killed. She is still the Queen regent and has more power than he does.
- Tyrion is no longer hand of the king and has lost all of the power that comes with it.
- Tyrion made a few enemies as hand of the king now he is vulnerable anything could happen.
- Tyrion was out cold for quite a while. So the Queen and Joeffery could have fabricated a story as to what actually happened in Tywins absence. I'm sure they will lay quite a bit of blame on Tyrion.

All in all not great for our lad.

- Tywin - What a BOSS! The only thing I loved about the opening scene. He was on a horse in the throne room!
- Lannisters - BASTARDS the rest of them! The throne room scene was a complete farce. Pissed me right off.
- Breeion - "I serve lady Catlyn" INDEED!
- Starks - All wandering wolves now. As I said before I would have hoped they could at least claim Winterfell back. Robb truly isn't in a great place surely? He has come way south and he has lost he keep behind him. Maybe retreating is the best option?
- Stannis - WOW! How ... did ... he get home some quickly? The way the scene panned out I thought he was going to be chained up. Not cosying up at home. Felt like a bit of a cop out really. How much of an army could he have left. I know he had the largest previously and it was one battle ... but it was a hell of a battle.

Over all it was just the aftermath and build up to the next series. I wasn't expecting anything to top the last episode.

Slightly dissapointing episode, but it was always going to be after that masterpiece.

Some things annoyed me:

-I'm not sure how news of Tyrion coming to the resuce got past Tywin etc. and why he has nwo lost his title and power etc. I guess he annoyed one too many powerful people. Also Shae almost ruined that scene with her talent vacuuming..really hope she is recast.

-Theon was in such an awful position it is very difficult to rememeber or think of any conceivable explanation as to why he thought this was every going to work in any way.

-I was a bit confused about the whole Jon Snow fight sequence. I was sure he and the other chap were going to try and escape by pretending to fight one another but then...the other guy was killed by Jon. Bit lost there.  Did he just hate Jon for letting the girl escape? Was the other guy letting Jon prove himself to the tribe?

-The mage in the tower was a huge letdown. A walk over.

-No news of Joffrey's cowardice reached anyone, or Tywin (could he do anything about it anyway?)  And where is the hound? That moment with Sansa was breezed over. And why suddenly is it a good idea to ditch Sansa as queen?? Why not before?

The warlock was a massive letdown. The thing I liked about the Daenerys stuff though is that she's now in a decent position and is going to sail to Westeros. Finally after all this time she'll get a boat so she can stop fucking going on about it.

I just don't think Tywin is that stupid to believe everything Cersei and Joffrey say. And I'm sure he would have sources that would tell him. I'm certain Varys and Littlefinger will cover things up because Tyrion is too clever and dangerous, but there's no way Tywin wouldn't hear anything else.

I think that's the best option for Robb. Go back to Winterfell and regroup. Wait for Tywin to make a move although I'm sure Tywin, even with his new ally, wouldn't be entirely happy about marching north to take on Robb in his own backyard having never lost a battle. If Tywin doesn't do anything, if I were Robb I'd take my army and go fuck up Theon's dad.
