Awesome. I like OUATITW also but the DOLLARS Trilogy remains my favourite from Leone's work.

This was a great film untill they made AVATAR

*edited by ME* - sorry coolstar. I overreacted. you are of course, entitled to your opinion. I just disagree. AVATAR is a great film but it does not compare to this one.

I saw Avatar in 3D and was blown away but i do like A Fistful of Dollars !

Yes. I saw AVATAR in 3D at the IMAX Waterloo. It was an experience for sure but I don't get why you all of a sudden feel the need to compare that film to this one.

I TGTBTU on a small TV with annoying commercial breaks every 45 minutes, it was blown away. And it didn't need any 3D or IMAX. Though IMAX would be awesome.

Which version is the best ? theres so many cuts ! The ending is the best when
Tuco is told to hang himself

Italian cut:
177 minutes
International cut:
161 minutes
Director's cut:
178 minutes

How many times have you brought TGTBTG?

Some cool behind-the-scenes pictures.

A shot from the infamous cut scene of Tuco firing a cannon back at Blondie just before 'Ecstasy of Gold'

Reading the 'greatest character introductions' thread and I just thought of Tuco. The sweaty bounty hunter, the dog walking across the screen, sweaty bounty hunter and friends going into saloon, sweaty bounty hunters get shot through the window, out comes Tuco and freeze frame! The Ugly.

Frakkin' awesome.

Hardcore fans probably already know this anecdote but Sergio Leone had an idea about 'saying Goodbye' to the three main characters (and his 'Dollars' mythology) by casting Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach as the three gunmen waiting at the train station for Charles Bronson's 'Harmonica' during the awesome opening sequence of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST; Harmonica would have gunned them down and in essence killed off these iconic characters. Van Cleef and Wallach supposedly agreed to this but Clint simply wasn't interested. Ultimately, as we all know, the characters were played by Al Muloch, Woody Strode & Jack Elam who played out a fantastic elongated scene of the three men, bored and waiting for the train. I reckon it would have been extremely cool to see the 'good, bad & ugly' make a final appearance but at the same time, for me, 'Blondie' or 'The Man with no Name' is immortal....

I often pester my younger (and better paid) brother to get me Eastwood's Hat & Poncho for my Birthday or Xmas. He just gives me an angry look and walks off.

You can imagine how difficult it must be being Snake-Eyes' (non-film fan) brother!

It would not have worked for me,as we saw Lee get gunned down in the great showdown, and as you said The Man with No Name is IMMORTAL,best left at that with Eli shouting that famous last words "Blondie you son of a "now that's a great ending why spoil it.

Sometimes I feel it's the small things, the most minute details that makes this film such a legendary work of art. Tuco talks to Blondie about how

"My brother... Heh! He's crazy about me!  Heh Heh... That's so. Even a Tramp like me no matter what happens.... I know there's a brother somewhere who'll never refuse me a Bowl a' Soup."

Blondie knowingly smiles that thin smile and replies

"Sure. And after a meal there's nuthin' like a good cigar."

He hands Tuco the cigar. Tuco takes the cigar, looks at Blondie, pauses to think for a moment and then grins that huge, toothy grin as the grand Morricone score kicks in and the carriage races on through the landscape. I LOVE that scene!!! It tells us so much about the relationship between the two chartacters; it's what is unsaid between them that informs us of the awkward quirkiness of their situation - I beleive that Tuco knows Blondie knows he's talking rubbish but at the same time he knows that Tuco has real feelings for his brother, Pablo, up until that point he was a selfish bastard but meeting his brother at the Monastery reveals a more 'human' component of his rat-like character.  That particular scene has a beautiful piece of music primarily played out on the guitar strings which emphasises Tuco's emotions as he reminisces about his past and the family he left behind.

All three main character's you feel could have been the best of mate's,except only two could truly trust each other. It's how the movie pan's out,and why it's so watchable,Tuco is mile's apart from his blood brother, but so close to Blondie.

Exactly. When he finally gets to dig up the gold and frantically smashes open the sacks with the shovel and then cheerfully declares "Blondie, it's all OURS Blondie..." I always feel that all the back-stabbing and distrust is over for Tuco; he really means it that the loot belongs to him and Blondie, his 'brother'. This makes it almost heart-breaking when the camera raises and we see the noose.

The one with the 'puppets on strings' was designed for special screenings at the cinemea in Texas - The Alamo Drafthouse; they usually have really cool, unique artwork posters created whenever they show classic films. Not sure about the seond and third but the fourth with the trio against white is openly available from poster dealers.

Dammit - I'm having GBU withdrawal symptoms! Been too tired to watch ANYTHING after these long shifts but I'm DEFINITELY gonna pop the blu-ray in the ol' player this evening; don't care if it is Friday, I'm staying in with MY movie!
