Thank you for all your support. I love you guys! You don't realise how you're coming across when you're at home.   This is an excellent tape series and book that helped me to understand the real reasons for being overweight.

I guess since the New Year is fast approaching, we will have another batch of people who will try to lose weight by this january.  including me, of course.

I lost 2 stone during my final year at uni just by eating salad, walking and just eating healthly. Now, however i seemed to have reached a plateau and seem unable to lose anymore weight and i want to lose at least another 2 stone.

The question is how do i break through this barrier, i've been the same weight for 10 or so months and it's really annoying.

and What I'm doing fits in more with returning to my previous level of fitness, but weight loss will obviously be involved. I am actually very slim, but I feeel I need to tone myself up more.

I think you can definitely try eating food not rich in carbs. There are also few yoga Asnas which will definitely benefit you.

Cheers!

Arefin, do you lift weights? If so to tone up lift smaller weights with more repetitions. Weighlifting makes your body burn calories faster than if you just did cardio (running, biking, jogging). Maybe take up martial arts, that will melt that pounds off you and tone you up very fast. Also if you're at a plateau you probably need to mix your routine up a bit because after 6 weeks of exercise your muscles get trained for a certain thing and that's why it's hard to lose weight. The more variety of exercise you get the better off you are for weight loss.

I'm going to be one of the guys this year trying to lose a bit of weight, I seem to have gone from one extreme to the other in the last few years. back in '04 at one point I weighed 9 st 2 lbs which for someone my height was ridiculously low (I'm 6ft 3), around the end of '08/start of '09 I was at the right weight for me at 13st 10 lbs. I weighed myself over Christmas and was shocked to see that I've ballooned up to 16st 7 lbs!, which is 1st 5lbs up since I weighed myself in June, so my aim is to knock at least 2st off over 2010, I'm probably going to be running the Great North Run again this year, but don't think I'd be able to do it at the weight I am now.

THIS YEAR ... WILL BE THE YEAR!

I know i've said it before. But new year and a new gym in February WILL change things. The biggest factor is that the gym is opposite my girlfriends house. It may be about the same distance my current gym is. But it's a trip i'm used to making. So it should make everything much easier. My girlfriend will be joining too. But I'm getting another mate to go with me too. So hopefully ... going to sort myself out this year.

I'm trying to gain weight actually - I'm one of those unfortunate people who struggles to put weight on. Good luck to all those aiming to lose weight this year.

I've remained the same weight for about 5 years now - I've consistently stayed at around 11 stone. Whatever I eat.. I go through phases of exercising and eating really well, then (like the past few weeks) sitting on my ass eating food and watching telly..it never seems to affect me, I just stay like i am.. That said, I'd like to tone up again, I can never bring myself to stick to a regime - when i'm on it, it goes well - green smoothies, walks, weights, skipping.. when I don't, it's bread, chocolate and hours of TV (currently Nip/Tuck ) I guess the one constant is vegetables and fruit - they're cheap and easy to get hold of, and as I have very little money at the moment, I'm living off veg stews, fruit, occasionally chocolate and sometimes nothing at all.. last week all i ate was porridge.. My lucks gonna run out soon though, I need to be active again - part of the problem is not having a full time job, nothing to get up for during the week - so I just lounge around.. i need a bike.

I never had a problem with my weight until a few years ago when I got a new job in Security, now I work long hours and sit on my arse most of the time. I have therefore put weight on, add the fact that I quit smoking six months ago that seems to have upped the rate of fat gathering my body is doing. I don't tend to eat really unhealthy food or an excess amount, I just don't get any exercise, that's the problem. But, I have decided to try and find time to do more exercise and try and eat a little more healthily. I'm hoping to lose at least 3stone by Christmas.

Size 18 to a size 14 in about 5 months last year - no diets, no exercising, just loads and loads of water.  People don't tend to believe that but people who know how much I love my food and chocolate would back me up on it.

Put a wee bit back on over Christmas, and my aim is to get to a size 12 before my holiday in Florida in July - and about three weeks ago bought my first pair of size 12 jeans in years

Still have a  bit to do to be a standard 12, I have this weird tyre round my middle, but I've got three months to do it and I think I will!

Well I've managed to lose 6lb in three weeks, I was hoping for more but it's better than gaining weight I suppose! Only 2st 8lb to go before Christmas

I put on around half a stone over the last few months then recently I decided to go back on the diet that lost me 2 and half stone around three years ago. I managed to lose it in a month or so then I suffered a blip and put it back on again.I have a wedding coming up next year (not my own) and I really have to step up my game again. When I first lost the weight it became more of a life style change. I began drinking more water (which I still do), I avoid fizzy drinks (still do), ate more fruit (am actually eating more than I ever have done before). One of the problems is eating sweet things like chocolate. I could eat bags of crisps or chips or anything like that and I wouldnt really affect me. But give me sweets and they pile on the pounds and I find it much harder to shift. But the crucial thing for me is lack of exercise. I bloody hate it! I know no one looks their best when working out but I genuinely feel stupid when doing it. So I am going to try to walking more as its the least embarassing way to get fit.

My suggestion. Buy a puppy. My parents got one and I look after it about 4 evenings a week and have lost 2 stone as a result. (I would like to say don't necessarily take this post as verbatim as I am somewhat drunk as I type).

Well I've managed to shift a fair bulk of the baby weight that's been lingering for a year in the past few months, though the last stone is proving very difficult. I got a Wii Fit but it's gone by the way side recently. Better weather should hopefully spur me into some action to loose the last of it. I find walking is best for me, it is something I can do with the offspring and as part of my day to day routine. I just have so much trouble keeping up momentum, a couple of days stuck in the house for whatever reason and I can't muster the energy to get going again.

I've been slugging away since Febuary now. Averaging about three 1 hour gym sessions a week. I've pretty much started off slow. I've stuck to the rower, cross trainer and bike. I break the hour down in various ways 10-30 mins on each in various combinations. Though I usually do 10 mins rower, 20 mins cross trainer, 20 mins bike and finish off with 10 mins on the rower again.

I started off about 14.8 stone. I've gone down to about 13.10. I've not noticed a major change. Though one friend insisted I must of lost a load of weight. I took it as a compliment ... but at the same time I thought she must have thought I was a right bloater before! Alas what I have noticed is I feel a lot better. Which is great. I don't get so bloated when I eat, even if I do pig out once in awhile. For the most part I feel I have more energy and less stress too.

The diet ... is an improvement. But I wouldn't say I'm on a diet. I just aviod the bingeing I used to do before. Which was pretty bad at some stages. Now I just limit myself. But still eat what I like.

Next week I want to start doing some fun stuff. Finnally going to start swimming in the mornings. Plus I'm going to try out Karate, Boxercise and maybe Spinning. I've not hit the weights yet. As I know when I do I will feel sore for awhile. So I'd have to take it even slower. I don't want that to be an excuse not to do. So I'm going to get a bit fitter and start the classes. Then start weights.

Enough about me ... How is everyone else doing?
