It's important that you make sure to eat many times during the day. If you make sure to eat a lot of protein just before working out, that will give your muscles the material to grow. You should eat 1 gram of protein per one pound of the body weight every day. Of course this depends on your metabolism, if you have a high one, you also need fats and carbs.
But the keyword here is protein. Eggs, fish, tofu, meat, that sort of thing.

Tuna out of the can ... 100% protein. Just not the stuff in sunflower oil. And vegetables.

When you say "hell" I assume you mean "Dagenham" right? Surely its not that bad?
Hey if you can not resist a picture of a chocolate cake on the net then you wont go too far with your diet!
Also its ok to indulge every now and again you shouldnt starve yourself or tottaly deny yourself of the things you love forever. Just work out harder when you do indulge.

Ooh!! Oooh!!  I tried on a very old pair of jeans this morning.  Ones I haven't even been able to get past my knees for the last 7 years or so and they went up!  All the way up, just not quite able to do them up yet, but I'm getting there.  Now maybe I should have got rid of them a while back, but dammit they're Armani jeans and they used to make my arse look damned fine.  So here's to laying off anything fattening or sugary and upping the exercise to get back into them!

i had a nasty back injury a ew years ago and pilled on the pounds,i was bed bound for months so i consoled myself with pizza and beer,i think i balloned to just under 14 stone,i should weigh 10-11 at the most,so recently i have been watching my diet(well trying to)and biking to work every day(bout 4 miles round trip)and a couple of weeks ago i joined the gym.the weight is falling off,my legs are great just need to lose my tum.my goal is to be fit,so i bought an army fittness book, and im sorta taking cues from that and its working.

195lbs! Hell yeah

And one a whim I went into my bro's room and tried on a pair of his 34' trousers. They fit! Bit snug round the old man package but they fit! From a 38' to a 34'!

Think I'll lose another 10 or so lbs and then call it a day. Pizza cravings are getting too strong.

OK, i have a problem. Month later and I'm still the same weight. I seemed to have plateaued. I just hover around 195lbs not losing anymore but gaining so weight every now and then.

Time to shake it up and push through the barrier.

Suggestions?

What are you doing in terms of fitness? Sometimes when you find you're stuck and can't seem to lose anymore, you need to look at what exercise you've been doing and change that part a bit.

You perhaps need to give you're body a jolt, with some higher fat burning exercise. You're body gets used to the same type of exercise, especially if you've been doing the same thing for a while. Try something else like cycling, or  you could get some ankle weights when you're walking to and from work (they fit round you're ankle and can't be seen), these would make a difference.

I DO have an old exercise bike at home somewhere. I could dust it off and do a couple of miles a night or something on a high resistance. The pedal straps are broken though....will have to figure something out about that.

What's a good distance to pedal to burn the lard, Newander?

With any fat burning exercise, you need to be doing 20 + minutes

Easy peasey, dump a movie or something into the old DVD player and cycle and watch.

Done and done!

Cheers. Hopefully, I'll go smashing through that barrier.

Well it's coming up to a year and from the start when I weighed 220lbs, I now weigh a sprightly 190lbs.

It's rather cool - all my clothes are a bit big though. Thanks to walking in and out of work and such, I'm also quite toned....bumped into a mate I hadn't seen for 2 years and he couldn't believe how different I look.

High fives all round. Smug bastard on the rampage.

Nice one fattie

I've lost a stone and a half in the past year. I wasn't "overweight" really (I was 14 stone and 5'11") but due to a stressful 6 months the weight dropped off me. I lost the weight but wasn't fit, but I felt more comfortable so got out on my bike more and got fit.  I'm doing a 38 mile charity mountain bike ride at the weekend and honestly can't wait. I doubt I would have been able to do it a year ago.
My advice for keeping the weight off now is exercise and something that has worked for me - don't eat after 9pm.

Count me in, I've gained some weight this year and I'm getting sick of my belly. The trouble will be (in addition to resisting chocolate etc.) to try and keep all the muscle I've gained this year while losing the fat...

I was a size 22 back last year. Now I'm a 16. I put it on due to having 2 c-sections and a very bad back (which lead to depression) I've snapped out of that in the last 14 months or so. Haven't worked as hard on weight loss recently due to returning to work full time, plus kids and part-time college. Now I'm used to all that and feel I have the energy to, I'm getting back into it. I don't diet as a rule, I don't thing that kind of thing works in the long run. Having a healthier life style does and getting educated.
I have two big weddings to attend next year I would love to get to a 14 (I'm curvy) and think I would look weird as a 12 (although wouldn't mind getting there). My target is to be a 14 by august for my best mates wedding. I just want to be comfortable in my own skin and feel good in clothes. My brothers wedding is October 2008 and I'm matron of honour, I want to look good so those are my targets. It's good to have a target I think.

Here here. I have put on a bit of weight.  A few friends have noticed now. A lot of them have got into the gym while I was fitter than them before I have gone the other way. Funny thing is I eat much better than I did before. I just do not exercise anymore. I am not going to really try to diet because I have done quite well already just going to promise to get down to the gym even in the cold weather.
