How am I proving it, i've only in my last post said they contain ridiculous elements and are not high art. My beef is not with if he likes the films but the fact that he's saying something which wasn't based on a valid criticism but just something popular he decided to take the piss out of. Olaf said the films weren't all that great, What did I say to him? Did I say that they're amazing pieces of art and they should be taken seriously? No, I simply wrote a reply in which i said i disagreed with him, i wasn't pissed at him and then gave my reasons like we do on this forum,
I know they're are comic book films and I said earlier that I believe he's making fun of the actual films itself. Not the audience.

And he said that they were no less intellectually stimulating than the 66 film whereas I would disagree because they have better written characters and better stories, ergo more intellectually stimulating.

You say it yourself. He was taking the piss - nothing more that that. Nothing to get worked up or upset about, why so serious?

It just annoyed me cos I saw Brooker as a guy who was on tele who genuinely talked about the things which bothered him and were wrong with Media today and have opinions which were well researched and informative but also humorous. And then he says stuff about this years comic book movies which was just to take the piss and to make a joke out of something current. With that, he's just an above average comedian who has a tv show and is just a part of the media machine that he so frequently criticises. I just thought he was above that and it made me a bit disappointed in him as a fan.

Why are you so sure that he's not genuinely bothered by all the superhero films? Maybe he does think that comic book adaptations are part of what's wrong with the media today.

Because he said that Rises should be silly and fun and not dark and brooding. Then when asked if he would see Avengers he put it down as a childrens film that why would he ever see? It's like someone eating a pizza and then saying, this is horrible go back and change this to ____ then when given something that suits his needs he says I don't like pizza anyway.

But there's nothing contradictory in that. He doesn't think DKR should be dark, he thinks it should be silly, but even if it is silly he doesn't think it's an adult film.

No, it's not him saying even if it's silly its still not an adult film. It's him labelling it as a kids film to be derogatory. If someone says 'do you like ___' then you say 'No, that's for kids' that means you think less of it. But the films he's making fun of aren't made just for kids they're made for all audiences. This isn't something like the night garden which is specifically made and targeted to kids. He's saying to people that only kids watch those films, putting the people who go sees those films down (who isnt a kid) and in turn putting the comic books down saying that only kids are interested in those things. And if kids are only interested in them, why is he going to watch them? I just think it's prickish behaviour and not something I would expect Brooker to do.

Who cares. Tiny Cox, Seal masturbating and luggage/baggage made the 2012 wipe more than memorable!

Really looking forward to tonight's Weekly Wipe. His withering critique of Splash! last week made me just about pee, especially the street dance rant.

Now go away.

He truly is a marvel. His whole speech on why america is better in the previous weeks episode was genius. May have to watch his stand up on Netflix.

Take Me Out is "like Baz Luhrman's version of the Nuremberg Trials".

Great stuff again tonight. Made me wish, for the first time ever, that I'd watched The One Show.

I love Brooker's use of language but it was this short line that had me chuckling a lot for some reason

Announcer- 'This is Sing Date, where people look for love by singing to each other'
Brooker- 'Why?'

Yes and I totally saw his point, what a bizarre programme!! If a man started singing at me I'd convulse into fits of laughter.*

I also giggled at his childish mocking of the yoghurt advert woman.

*Unless it was the man in my avatar.

That whole bit about Bruce Willis on The One Show would have been better with Brookers commentary I thought. It went on for ages and wasn't remotely funny. Shame cause that interview is perfect Brooker fodder.

I think Brooker still writes the Barry Shitpeas segments but I agree they'd be better if he did them himself. I think he just does it to mix the segments up so it's not him talking all the time. Shitpeas is played by the director of the earlier 'Wipe' series so I assume he was just picked to play the character one day and Brooker liked his performance.

That same gay couple were on the ITV News at 10 tonight.

Seriously, do they have an agent or something?

The very early Screenwipe which began on BBC4 was the best thing on TV when it was on. There was no Shitpeas, there was no Cunk. It was mostly him just talking and taking the piss out of adverts and programmes.

This new one feels like it has too much of an agenda and opinion. Also don't like the new POV angles where hes sitting in a fancy looking library. The old ones with him sitting in a dingy basement flat worked because that was part of the lifestyle he was famous for. Now he's married with a kid, that doesn't work anymore.

I do like the debate style interview at the end with the guests. They should pad that out more, bring in Doug Stanhope more as that guy is hilarious and just get rid of Shitpeas and Cunk, especially Cunk as her voice does my brain in.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, I don't like Shitpeas and Cunk either was just stating that he writes those parts. Like I say, he likes changing it up, this is a mix of his old shows with new bits added, I think he was just fed up with the original format (which I loved). Or you could argue that this is a different show altogether. And as for the change in location, well, he moved home after he got married, didn't he?

Yes.

What agenda? Too much opinion? The show is built on opinion! It always has been! It IS opinion!

His 'home' view has changed slightly, granted, but I think "sitting in a fancy looking library" is overstating it. His circumstances have changed, why shouldn't his POV? Do you want him faking a lower income in a middle-class flat? Or something more realistic?

And why should what kind of flat he is in or income he is on have any effect on what he is saying?

I like them too, but I do think they're better in moderation.

The interview bit has grown on me (loved Bob Mortimer talking about smoking in empty cinemas) but I think it does still feel as though Charlie is trying to combine several of his shows (Screenwipe, Newswipe and You Have Been Watching) and I'm not sure it's entirely successful. Maybe it would work better if it was longer, where things like the interviews could be given more space.
