Another good episode, particularly liked the segment about the MMR panic.

Same here. The more I see of him, the more convinced I am that he's utterly insane.

shocking clip, but why has john turturro changed his name?

best episode yet for newswipe aswell, the media is such a fucking shambles. actually its worse than that it's an insiduious entity that manipulates our expectations and judgments shamelessly. MMR scandal part was particularly shocking (actually it all bloody well was)

I must say I was disappointed that this time all we got was a compilation clip show.

Is this going to be the norm from now on for recession era TV?

Brooker partially explained this on twitter http://twitter.com/charltonbrooker

quote:

This week's Newswipe is a compilation. Before you start bellowing, we were always scheduled to do one... we've just done it 1 week early...
... the 'proper' final ep will now go out on Weds 29th April; we've done a 'swap', essentially, and for good reason...
... partly so we can all catch up, partly because of my ongoing fucked-neck-and-arm scenario. Anyway. You'll enjoy it all regardless.

It is ironic to talk about columnists getting slammed by others on their paper, really, and then having Ben Goldacre on who ripped apart an idiotic and ill-informed article on MMR in the Observer. Bet that caused fun round the office.

I thought Brooker was a Guardian writer? Or am I missing the point here....

He is. So is Goldacre. His Bad Science column is in the Saturday Guardian but he did an expanded piece ripping apart an amazingly misguided MMR article in the papers.

Edit - it is also a fantastic read and I'd recommend the book. Unless you're a homeopath. Or nutritionist. Or Gillian Keith.

I'd been looking forward to the episode all day. Damn well almost ruined my night when I found out it was a clip show!

He explained on Twitter that he hurt his neck a few weeks back and so hasn't been able to type well, hence his lack of messages recently.

Ahh okay, Cheers Rhube!  I was hoping he had gotten into a fight with one of the many people he's insulted over the years.

Great episode last night, the stuff about the fleet street papers was pretty scary. I thought he was spot on about the media's condescending attitude towards whatsherface from BGT.

He didn't lack for material to pick from 2009's tv lowlights.

I knew he'd get a lot of mileage out of the Michael Jackson seance.

Apparently this is what Fearne Cotton said on Twitter after screenwipe aired:
quote:

The reason grown men feel the need to slag me off is beyond me. The demergraphic of my shows is usually half their age for a start.

Surely the reason he slaged her off is quite obvious... because she came off as complete and utter nimrod, I hope someone bloody well told her that.

That made me think of the N64 and "Its a me, Mario"

Kinda feel sorry for Fearne at times. I had a massive dislike of her for ages but, I dunno, i guess i don't have the energy I used to have for hating people anymore. Being old does that to you you know

The review wasn't as enjoyable as usual: perhaps the clips themselves just made me sad. Noel's HQ looks absolutely hateful. A couple of great lines though - particularly about the Pete Doherty doc ("It's like a corpse showing you around the scene of its own murder"). Barry Shitpeas is always good value, as well.
