I created this thread last year and discovered it was a fun way of really discovering what my top 100 films are.

Here's how it works: Whenever you watch a film that you rate 9 or a 10, place it somewhere on your list. Try to see all your favourite films in one year so that they all get a placement. Whenever you watch a film for a second time then move it up the list (I did so by 10%, so that if it was in the 50s on my chart it would move up 5 spots, etc.)

Add your own list to this thread and continue updating it whenever you see a great film and let's see what you come up with by the end of the year.

Here's how my 100 favourite films looks just now:

Adding to my list:

Strangers on a Train - The master of suspense, weaves a smashing darkly comic thriller. Has some spectacular shots, including the murder in the reflection of spectacles and the stalker at a tennis match with his head completely still. I burst out laughing at the part where the killer's mother showed him a portrait of his father. If anything, film contains the most exciting tennis match in any movie ever!

Run Lola Run - Extremely inventive little thriller that plays with many narrative conventions, extremely well directed, am going to try and catch Perfume at the cinema.

The Cat Returns (Morita, 2002) (9/10)

I should probably mention I'm ignoring all the rules again and just making a list of the Top 100 films I happen to watch this year.  I have started trying to make an all time Top 100 beginning with the results from last year's version of this thread, but I imagine it'll be a few years before it starts looking anywhere near right.

Making my list this past week:

Pulp Fiction - The film that made my No.1 from last year enters at the top of the list, just recently had to do an essay on it. Best essay I've ever wrote!

The Usual Suspects - One of the finest moments in any film ever is the revelation at the end of this film. And the lead-up is just ace!

Million Dollar Baby - Eastwood at his best, hope he gets at least an Oscar nom for Flags this year

The Sixth Sense - Again another fantastic twist at the end. Haley Joel Osment is excellent but Willis and especially Toni Collette deserve just as much attention, both giving subtle and very impressive performances.

The Deer Hunter - It certainly is long but one of those films that is well worth sitting down and re-discovering. It just missed my Top 100 last year, dropping off just about Christmas time. Wonder if it can make it this year...

Hopefully I'll have my first one-hundred by the end of February!

The Wire is surely the best TV show ever broadcast in America. This claim isn't based on my having seen all the possible rivals for the title, but on the premise that no other program has ever done anything remotely like what this one does, namely to portray the social, political, and economic life of an American city with the scope, observational precision, and moral vision of great literature.

The Wire has never won an emmy? [It] deserves the Nobel Prize for Literature!

Edited highlight of the last week

Ride The High Country and The Ballad Of Cable Hogue-bought a Peckinpah boxset in HMV last week and these two seemed like more gentle Sunday afternoon fare than The Wild Bunch or Pat Garrett. I preferred RTHC of the two, it just seemed a warmer, more focused film, and I thought both Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott were great as the two aged cowboys trying to make ends meet. Cable Hogue I also liked, but veered towards slapstick too much and dragged a bit in the middle, before the excellent climax

Ginger Snaps Back and Alone In The Dark-two straight to DVD horrors of a vastly different standard. AITD was my first Uwe Boll film and the first twenty minutes were actually good enough that I couldn't see why he was so hated. The next hour made so little sense that it bored me to tears. Whereas Ginger Snaps Back was a well-made, clever prequel which knew to save the shocks and gore until they were needed and concentrated on actually providing a decent plot.

Little Caesar-Considering this film is 50 years older than me, I was slightly nervous as to how well it would have aged and if I'd be able to enjoy it. Luckily I did, mainly thanks to Edward G Robinson's incredible screen presence. I'd seen countless impersonations and parodies of the man over the years, but none of them have the impact of the real thing. I'd been curious as it was always mentioned in the same breath as The Public Enemy, and I wasn't disappointed
