Kind of know what you mean - wouldn't worry though. With Inception I really thought he'd given the game away to get people into screens but remember watching it for the first time thinking 'he'd shown us NOTHING!'. Even the city folding over on itself - one of the most spectacular bits IMO - was in the trailer but in the end having seen that already made no difference to the enjoyment what so ever. Suppose that's the effect of making sure the story is strong before coming up with the visuals.

I'd say treat the TV spots like your meant to - if you can try to only watch them a couple of times and resist the urge to freeze frame too much it'll be fine.

That said - didn't they release like 10 minutes in extended clip form of DKs action? Truck flip chase sort of thing? Avoided those like wildfire.

 Sorry for double post... but I am LOVING Bane punching into a concrete collumn in that trailer

There was a set report last year saying he did though I was skeptical how it'd work... just looks like the guy feels no pain. Great way of interpreting Venom for the Nolan world I'd say!

Yeah that always bugged me. But I kind of did the legwork in my noggin and 'assumed' Ra's would have representatives or somesuch, if he's that powerful. To be honest, the whole 'secret society' thing does seem at odds with the greater realism of the series, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight do contrast in that sense. I was sort of thinking... hang on, so Gotham - perhaps the world's premier city in this universe - has been victim to an attack by a secretive society witnessed by thousands... and everybody's sort of okay and no longer mentioning it anymore?

I think it will more a case of the two of them meeting when Bane busts open the prison, finds out what is going on and tags along for all the riches she can thieve!! Roll on 13:00 July 20TH

 Right, I have no willpower, It's official.

Anyway, my favourite shot of the new trailer ('Mr Wayne' aside) is at around forty four seconds in when there looks to be a huge crowd of people marching toward some kind of entrance to a building and what is maybe Matthew Modine's character walking out and seeing them all approaching. I just think it looks very menacing.

Also, is anyone of the notion that Bane actually recruits people of Gotham to get behind his cause? He seems to have an awfully big army from the shots we have seen, maybe they are all prisoners, mercenaries etc but wouldn't it be interesting if certain civilians in Gotham were fed up of the establishment and craved a revolution and saw bane as the man to lead it, we would also get a civil war vibe then too in terms of the civilians of Gotham who are against Bane and on the police's side.

I don't think that Bane knows Bruce Wayne is Batman at the point showed in the trailer (it's just before their face-off). I think it's a case of misleading editing. Bane either says that when he's smashed Batman's mask, or during the prison scenes.

I don't know why you don't think it's Christian Bale. He's imposing in that suit, in a way that JGL could never be (hence why he isn't Batman!). Also, I don't know why people keep on with the 'JGL becomes Batman' idea - The film isn't long enough and it won't fit in with the story. This is Bruce Wayne's story, nobody elses.

While I havent read anything in to the film, from the trailers it appears to me Batmans back is busted from the outset, which probably allows Bane to kick his ass initially- the body language in the little snippet in this trailer as he turns to face Bane behind me doesnt speak confidence at all, I think he knows he will lose.
I dont know how he recovers to beat Bane, but I dont think he is faking the injury.

Also I really like Waynes greying hair- he looks well in this film too.

What else could he have said? You have to expect misdirection when it comes to preserving the plot but some of the ideas about what happens are getting pretty stupid.

Frank Miller's Dark knight Return shows an aging Bruce Wayne putting mental blocks in his head. The aim was to prevent himself becoming Batman again. In Rises it appears Bruce made himself into an outcast, growing a beard and requires a walking stick.

Agreed. The only way that would ever have happened would have been if JGL had been in the series from the start, with him eventually becoming worthy and able to fill in. He's too small and puny and would just look stupid. I'd bet my house on that not happening.

Like Kumar, I'm also assuming that Bruce is injured from the start (wear and tear or maybe from the fall at the end of TDK) meaning the first attempt at fighting off Bane results in him being beaten and badly hurt.

There is at least one way JGL could 'become' Batman...CAUTION...

Actually, it'd be totally in keeping with everything that's happened so far if JGL didn't actually become Batman, but like the copycats from TDK, tries to do what Batman does and like one of them, get killed as a result. I'll put a small bet on the smashed mask being smashed off JGL's face, And Bane thinking he has killed Batman, and with it, any hope Gotham has left. JGL's character while Gotham is in despair, batman is gone, seeing the things he sees, being asked by a kid if he thinks Batman will ever come back, dons the suit to give Gotham its symbol back, and 'Gives these people everything'. Knightfall, except the scene inspired by it has 'Batman' die,so he can 'Rise' for the purposes of this story. He doesn't have to become Batman, just put on the suit and do his best to not actually go up against Bane. For this to work, Bane wouldn't know who Batman really is, the 'Mr Wayne' in the trailer would have to be misdirection. Or Bane might think the returning Batman is Wayne, until smashing the mask off him...

Whatever JGL does will have probably have to be of large story significance, giving his prominence in the trailers...looking on helplessly, tries to help out. Fails. And it fits in with established continuity and themes, because a Batman copycat has already been killed in the movies, And it's dramatically potent to be able to flit between imprisoned Bruce and stuff happening in Gotham. Also, if Bane has ;killed Batman' once, it might be a point of pride for him to finish the job properly in the final fight, which would test Bruce's rule...how do you stop someone who wants to kill you, and will try while there's a breath in his body?

The legend ends (Batman apparently killed) then The Dark knight rises.

 But it's clearly Christian Bale's mouth and physique? You'd know if it was JGL. It just doesn't sit well with me, the idea of somebody else becoming Batman. I think we can 100% rule out Bruce 'handing over' the Batman persona to somebody else, that would just be so contradictory surely!

With regards the 'Mr Wayne' line... I reckon Nolan will stay true to Knightfall and have Bane deduce Batman's identity before pulling off his mask. It just reinforces Bane's dangerous intelligence, that he's able to work it out. I wouldn't be surprised if we got him utter the line 'you could be no-one else.' Maybe he's even aware of it before the film.

My thinking is that Bane wants Batman to come out of retirement purely so he can defeat him.

I think those who believe JGL will be anything more than just a helpful cop are going to find themselves very disappointed. 

Even though the structure of the film is still a little confusing, and we're all still pretty clueless about the overall plot, I can categorically say that that IS Christian Bale in the batsuit and it is very clear to piece together the 'fight' and imprisonment scenes of the film. Batman (Bruce Wayne) fights Bane, Bane knocks him for six, Bane imprisons Bruce, etc, etc. Nobody will take his place. I too put my house on it. I think people are over-thinking the JGL aspect of the film. Completely over-thinking it.

 I wont be disappointed if what I speculate doesn't come to pass. I'll be disappointed if the film turns out to be unable to deliver the goods. Speculation is fun, especially given the extent to which Nolan likes to use promos to convey the tone of the films he makes rather than give away the story. Clearly it is Bale turning around to face Bane. Clearly the smashed mask is dropped to the floor at the same location. Clearly, prior to Bane saying 'When Gotham is Ashes, you have my permission to die' he will have seriously kicked Batman's arse. But while Bruce is imprisoned, will everybody in Gotham just put up meekly with everything Bane does to subjugate them and rule them ? Or will the example Batman gave inspire someone to do something to resist the rule of Bane? One of the things Bruce said he wanted was to inspire people. Will his faith be rewarded, either by an individual, or the populace he has made it his goal to protect?

Speculation is fun indeed and you're right jobloffski.

I think that Batman will simply inspire GOTHAM as a whole. That's the theme of these films. The truth will come out about Harvey. It has to.

Although these film are far from predictable we all know deep inside that the absolute outcome will be the 'legend' status of Batman and his absolute inspiration to Gotham. A dramatic example to lead the way for a once lost city.
