Welcome to the new EmpireOnLine - "Odd One Out" thread...

Yeah I know what you're thinking, it's not as good as having our own section - but
it's hardly the end of the world so we'll have to adapt.

I've put together the ground rules and code that we've come to live by in OOO land.
  • Whoever creates the OOO is in charge of making sure they keep an eye on it as much as possible. If we're going to make this thread successful we don't want long outstanding OOO's everywhere, so please bear this in mind when setting them.
  • Clues can be given whenever it is deemed necessary by the person setting the OOO. If the member guessing the OOO feels frustrated then they can request a clue to be given.
  • Stealing answers from the grasp of others who have done all of the groundwork is part and parcel of OOO's, so be warned - don't give too much away in your guesses if you haven't yet come up with a final answer - if you do then it's at you're own risk!!!!!
  • 4 or more options is the standard when setting OOO's - only having 3 to choose from is usually too easy.
  • Always be polite, IMO the OOO's have a charm to them and the old OOO section was always a very nice place to visit - let's try and maintain this.
  • Have fun! That's the aim for the whole forum IMO and in OOO land we've always managed to have a good laugh - especially with some of the more strange OOO's that we've seen over the years.
  • Use of a 'certain website' is allowed - but the name of that website must never be used in this thread - it's a tradition!
  • Finally, never - and I do mean never use the term 'easy' when describing your OOO - this usually means it will end up being an extremely hard puzzle to solve, don't ask me why!?

Here's a fairly simple one to start us off:

Harrison Ford
Stephen Boyd
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Michael J.Fox

The curse of 'the easy ones' still applies then?

Harrison Ford - The Empire Strikes back
Stephen Boyd - The Fall of the Roman Empire
Michael J.Fox - Atlantis. The Lost Empire
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Empire Falls

So Ford is the OOO, because his Empire is returning, and others are going.

Coooorrrreeeeccccccctttttt!
Well done Tobey - first blood goes to you!

Yes, Juror - you're quite right the Boyd one was a TV series but it still fit quite nicely!
I  needed to do a topical one for my first outing on the new forum.

Is it ok if i have a go?

Desmond Llewelyn
Oliver Reed
Richard Harris
Gloria Foster

It could be quite easy, time will tell.

Is it to do with deaths during filming?

Reed died filming Gladiator.
Foster died fiiming the Matrix Reloaded.
Harris died filming the Chamber of Secrets (or before its release)

Llewelyn died after the relase of The World is Not Enough, making him the OOO.

The Dogs of War is the OOO. All the other titles are taken from Hamlet, but that's from Julius Caesar.

Nonny no?

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Actually I could, as all the Hamlet titles are from the same 'To be or not to be' soliloquy,  but that's not really important.

Your prize is a bare bodkin. Well done.

Can I add in mine from the first thread that now appears to be defunct...

Dazed and Confused
Gone In 60 Seconds
Monsters Inc.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Just to confirm that it remains unsolved!

Do they all feature silent characters (the big chief in Cuckoo, Vinnie in 60 seconds), apart from, er, Monsters Inc?

Or Dazed and Confused?

No, I'll leave it up a bit longer than will add in a clue if it remains unsolved for much longer!

I'll just include the correspondence between Juror and I from the other thread here to tie it all up. Clue at the bottom...

Dazed and Confused - Sean Penn
Gone In 60 Seconds - The OOO
Monsters Inc. - Billy Crystal
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Danny Devito

Friends cameos?

Wrong answer hotshot!

D&C - Ben Affleck (Armageddon)
Monsters Inc - Steve Buscemi - Armageddon
Cuckoos Nest - ????

Making Gone in 60 Seconds the OOO for starring Robert Duvall who starred in Deep Impact?

(Makes Family Fortunes 'incorrect answer' buzzer noise)
Here's a clue - the actors themselves are not the link...

That does make him a OOO, but its not the OOO i was after.

But you're on the right track, think about the characters...

They were all replaced by other actors apart from Ollie who was cgi'd in!

Holden is the OOO. All the other titles could be associated with Jesus and his gang of merry do-gooders, but Holden's title refers to the bad boy religion the Devil.

Amen?
