Does look that way - wasn't aware of this at first, but it's a remake of a Nintendo DS game but with major reworking involving Ghibli.  In the DS original, spells and whatnot were done by drawing pictures on the touchscreen that were supplied in an accompanying book.  Not sure how that's going to translate on the PS3, but I suspect that gameplay will be secondary to the wandering about in any case

Wish they'd do a Porco Rosso game - that'd be mega.

Is it one of those non-fantastical Ghibli efforts? I'm not a big fan of those as they seem to defeat the point of animation.

I think you and I may fundamentally disagree on what the 'point' of animation might be (just another means of telling a story for me - the story doesn't need to be narratively or visually of a particular type) so that's a difficult question to answer!

 It's great isn't it? I have the blu-ray and it looks smashing. Saw it in the cinema too, which was quite surprising as I wasn't expecting it to play at my local chav hole. It's no Totoro, but I don't think any film will better that. My favourite animated film.

That's gotta be the stand out scene for me too. That and the very first shots of all the sea creatures. Magnificent stuff!

What the shit?  Miyazaki claims that Studio Ghibli could close if Arietty the Borrower doesn't do the business in the States...

I'd seen the sequel part elsewhere, but not the risk to the studio. That's not very good.

I don't think people are quite so fussed by 'rules' as you are.

And I think it's probably not entirely unconnected to the fact the UK release is in identical packaging style to the Ghibli collection.

Well, if you're excepting Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (which seems fair as Ghibli themselves kind of refer to it as a Ghibli movie now, and it's very much in keeping with all the other Miyazaki films made afterwards) that only leaves us with Castle of Cagliostro, which you'd be right to say is not a Studio Ghibli film at all. I'm not sure it really matters too much as long as people are watching them.

 Bumping as I finished watching Only Yesterday last night - what a lovely piece of filmmaking. The ending was a moment of unexpected brilliance.

 Anyone seen The Borrower Arrietty yet? I watched this Sunday, it's a more a low key effort than the more recent Ghibli films. I started out thinking it was going to be a real treat but the film slowed to a snails pace and the inner workings within the house stopped.

The best part was the first 30 minutes with Arrietty's first borrowing. The journey through the woodwork and seeing all the small details making up the place was very good, it's just a shame that it didn't have the pace to keep it up.

 Really? I was hoping for something better than that after watching a few of the classics recently like Mononoke and Nausicaa.

I've seen it a couple of times now. I loved it. I felt there was more to it the second time. I would agree the film changes slightly after the introductory bit, but personally I didn't think it was worse, just different, and I could happily watched loads more of it.

 I've seen Arrietty, and it's the best new film I've seen this year. An absolute masterpiece, I'd rank it as one of Ghibli's best.
