 He has. I made a mistake earlier though, I thought one of the films he acted in was adapted from a novel, but it wasn't. So he's done cameos in films he's written, but not ones adapted from his novels.
Genre of films in general? Dramas.

I'm kind of blanking on this, particularly the genre of the films.

Is he over/under 50?
Have HIS novels adapted by others ever seen a best film Oscar nom?

Over 50
No Oscar best film noms
I like what I've read
Not Eggars

I'll give you a big hint. His sole directorial effort is an odd film from my favourite time period in American cinema, starring one of my favourite actors of all time.
