I think it would be cool if we saw some more 00 agents in future films. Surely big mission like the ones Bond goes on would overlap with other stuff agents are doing. Might be nice just for a change and to mix up the Bond status quo.

TLD was best at showing 007 as part of a organisation playing his part alongside other agents but going his own way on a hunch.

Someone should do a tribute to all the various Station agents/contacts that help Bond... and then get themselves killed. For example; Vijay (Vijay Amitraj) in Octopussy.

I would've liked to have seen Colin Salmon actually as a 00.  Maybe even as a bond at one time.  Certainly they had him in brosnan movies, but I've always thought he was underused.  Perhaps have him as a 00 in the past and having to come out of active service.

That could work. Agent XXX was a rather good spy in The Spy Who Loved Me.

I saw Daniel Craig is putting forward the idea of a black Bond today. While I get what he's going on about with Obama being president and all, that's not the character. Bond is a white Scottish/Swiss French agent working for the British government. I mean you wouldn't have Shaft played by Chow Yun Fat would you? BUT I do think the likes of Robinson, as darkius said, should have been made a 00 and if in the next film, they have MI6 going all out to take down SPECTRE, lets have an operation with a team of 00s doing some good old fashioned espionage...with some of them getting killed no doubt.

No. Devil May Care was a great, great book.

As for all this nonsense of having Bond lead a team of 00 agents, or having more 00 agents etc. Bond has always been a one man army. Sent off on missions on his own for the most part.

Don't know if anybody knows this, but if anyone wants to see 006 (other than Sean Bean's Alec Trevelyan), see Thunderball.

In the meeting with M and all the 00s in the big hall, there are some shots of the guy sat next to Sean Connery, who has a black hair and beard, therefore being 006 .

Ooo, I found the pic:

I did rewatch Thunderball recently and was loving the room full of double-os. Of course, Bond is the only one that actually knows what's happening.

One other thing I liked was how Spectre has it's own line-up of rogue agents (many of whom are wiped out over the course of Thunderball). I quite like how with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace they've managed to build up another rival team that present a level of threat great enough to be running rings round most of MI6 and CIA.

Quantum also pulled of a neat trick of having Bond work alone, but team for long enough with Camille for me to actually give a shit about her, rather than having an annoying wannabe ala Jinx (or even Wai Lin).

Btw Timon - did you ever get back to the script? I've got a few ideas of my own now, although probably better deployed within the framework of an espionaghe thriller of their own. As for Bond I'd like to see him carry on raising hell.

I thumbed through it about 6 months ago...and thought I'd just leave it the hell alone, though I still want to see my dream of seeing the MI6 headquarters stormed by a villanious mercenary/assasination/espionage team and having various MI6 agents and security personnel having to react to it. Perhaps they can open the new Bond film with that... perhaps having M assasinated during the evacuation and the new M coming in with Q and Moneypenny in tow.

This is idle Tuesday afternoon speculation on my part.

The wider tidbits we get of life at MI6 are some of the most compelling moments of the series, especially with spys gone bad as the way into it. Agents using their training and wiles for subversive ends never gets old, Bourne, Muir in Spy Game and of course Dryden in Casino Royale. Hopefully they began a larger storyline of corruption within the government with the PM advisor in QoS.

The professional rivalry in Goldeneye made the film, and the competition in Casino Royale payed similar dividends. Quantum of Solace lacked that somewhat, they could definitely benefit from bringing in an equally matched adversary, not necessarily a villain. I've always wanted them to explore Bond's military past, him wearing the uniform is as far as its gone. They could introduce a superior from Bond's former unit as another 00, both get assigned to different parts of the puzzle, culminating in them having to take down the PM's man and his network within MI6

Great thread!
Though I don't really agree with the cries for Bond to be teamed up more. I always found he get's the support he needs in the films anyway. Yet I don't want to see someone holding Bonds hand the whole time. The new films so far have done a good job of showing that there is a team of people working with Bond on missions. Monitoring him and giving him information when needed etc.

Yet I think the whole point of a 00 Agent is that they can work on the field on their own. That if they needed to the greats like Bond could get out of almost any situation and work their way through any place. That's what he has spent his life training for and he was obviously picked as the best of the best.

I am no expert but I would imagine that there is a large gap of skill between that a normal soldier and an SAS agent in real life. As Bond's meant to be the best and well as it's fiction then I don't mind this being stretched. There are of course limits to this. I don't want to see Bond taking down an army. If he needs to call for back up then that's fine. Swat teams etc are ok. He is just one man.

How about doing a Bond spin-off simply title '00' or 'Double O' which follows the other double o agents in a Mission Impossible style (i.e team work). Obviously it would have to reference James Bond and mainstay characters like M, Moneypenny and Q...I think it could work

Thanks for the briefing Timon, nice to have it all there gathered. When it comes to the other Double-O agents, I've always found it interesting to have another one of those combined into the story together with our familiar 007. As we know, Bond isn't alone with the position he's having, there are many more (probably even more than the ones we've seen) and they should come to the light once in a while. Alec Trevelyan might be the famous we've seen in the films, getting the largest role - to be both the ally (in the beginning) and the villain (in the rest of the film). Interesting, how different they turns out to be. However, to fill out some of the blanks, I believe we're still waiting for 000, 005 and 001 to entrace. Who knows, maybe we'll see them sooner or later.

Charles Robinson.

How about they bring him back as a 00-agent for the new film along with another agent that's assigned to help Bond bring down Quantum.

Actually, have any of you ever read John Gardner's Icebreaker? Where Bond teamed up with a CIA agent and a female Mossad agent to track down SPECTRE? It's rather good.

Why not have MI6 work together with the CIA and have James work with Felix Ligher, who was always an intresting character?

It would be good to see an IMF-esque film where Bond leads a team into action, only so you didn't get the impression that this guy was holding up this country on his own

See the opening sequence of Die Another Day, where Bond, and a group of agents surf onto a North Korean beach. It's not clear whether his colleagues are 00 agents or if they are say, CIA operatives, but it has been done before, and there's no reason why it can't be done again.

The two other agents are south-korean special forces soldiers according to the novelization of DAD (yes, I admitt it. I have read it!)
They both die when the helicopter is blown to pieces.

I think it would be interesting to give some scenes to a female 00-agent. Don't kill her in the PTS, but don't give her so many scenes that she takes center stage next to Bond.  She could be 001, since that number hasn't been used in the movies yet.
The actress should be fairly unknown. Casting someone like Cathrine Zeta-Jones would be a mistake.

A later 002 took part in the exercise attack on Gibraltar. (The Living Daylights. Played by Glyn Baker. The designation 002 is never mentioned on screen during the film, but is given in the credits.)

That guy really looks like John Lithgow. I know it's not him, but it always makes me double-take. By the way, that's a great picture capture you have there - he looks like Cat in Red Dwarf's 'Backwards' after he's finished 'in the bushes'.

Perhaps there could be a 'Double 0' spin-off film or TV series ala The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. In fact I think 'Double 0' would be a great title! I'm off to the patent office!

when i saw Living Daylights as a kid at the cinema i thought the 3 agents at the start were the three 007s on a training exercise! - Connery, Moore and the new guy Dalton (i dont think id have known about Lazenby) - one of them even looked a little Moore-ish with the floppy brown hair (wonder if that was intentional?)

Btw i presume the guy who frightens Mollaka into action at the start of CR is a 00? Of course it turns into a one man army, commando style attack afterwards.

Axel, I know you originally posted this (apparently) six years ago, but I just read the thread today. Are you referring to the agent who accidentally allows Mollaka to see him talking on the radio etc? Since he was totally amateurish and played by Joseph Millson from Peak Practice, I don't think he was intended to be a 00 agent!
