They do, I'm saying England might mirror it given the formation posted by Matty with Cole and Rooney wide.

Flatulent_Bob -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 10:25:35 AM)

Sorry didn't see Mattys post

jimminycrickets -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 10:56:45 AM)

Doesn't matter what formation you play, you're still going to lose without troubling the scorers.[;)]

John_P -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 3:03:59 PM)

hopefully holland will do us good and proper so Mcclaren starts to play some different players and give others a chance instead of persisting with Lampard/Carrick in centre mid and leaving Gerrard on the right.

OK just for a laugh. I bet we don't lose and that we score 2.

jimminycrickets -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 3:36:42 PM)

Just whacked a cheeky score on 2-0 at nines with Huntelaar to score at 13/8. We'll see what happens, friendlies are tough to call.

It could go eitherway. If I had to put the house on a result to would go with Robben getting at Richards. Holland taking the spoils.
But I have a feeling that AJ might explode onto the international scene and Rooney to have a stormer. 2-2 hopefully with plenty of chances.

Bob waits for Holland to dish out the mother of all thrashings.

Casino007 -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 7:19:42 PM)

Let's hope you lose teh house then ya daft pikey cunt.

[sm=33.gif]  Mum is that you?

Couple of questions. Why the fuck isn't AJ playing down the middle?  Is Joe Cole on casters? How shit is Carrick, sorry United fans but I told you so! 18Million fuck me did they ever see you coming!!

EDIT:

AJ subbed so what have we done here gone 4-3-3 with Rooney uptop?  Fucking stupid AJ deserves to be given a chance not to have the piss taken.

And on comes Keiron Richardson [:D]. England have impressed me in patches so far but it's only a friendly. He seems to be "doing a Sven" and playing someone out of position. Johnsons a striker, and should be played throught he middle, he's wasted out wide (though he had a good first half imo)

Are you watching the same game I am? England have been dreadful, only to be surpassed in the shitness stakes by the worst Dutch performance I've ever seen (and I was at Hampden when we "gubbed" them 1-0), they just don't look remotely interested. I don't think I've ever watched a worse game, at any level.

Ha, England couldn't even put those jokers to bed.

i007_Bond_007i -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 8:56:19 PM)

1-1,eh? What a bore that was.

Philo Bedo -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 9:08:49 PM)

I do believe Holland forgot to turn up for the game....  What a borefest that was.

BullRing -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 9:09:58 PM)

Positives:
  • Micah Richards
  • A solid look at the back
  • Better movement by Gerrard & Lampard
  • Joe Cole's roaming role
  • Rooney on the scoresheet

Negatives:
  • Lack of penetration
  • Rio & Robinson constantly punting the ball into the space between the Dutch defenders and Goalkeeper
  • a Sven-like performance
  • Our total inability to hold onto the Ball.
  • Robinson in goal in general (don't ask me who I would replace him)
  • We still look like sh*te.

Roll on Israel. That will be fun. [sm=rolleyes10.gif]

Taking into acount it was a friendly and the Dutch were bad, I thought England were in control for most of the game. And it was a poor game I'll give you that. Most friendly's are these days.

jimminycrickets -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 9:26:16 PM)

But they weren't in control through anything they did, though. They had one attack, scored then sat back at let a wholly incompetent Dutch side come at them.

Philo Bedo -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 9:38:33 PM)

Who was that commentator by the way?  Totally biased and made the whole thing a terrible experience for the viewer.

Are you serious?  Why shouldn't the BBC want England to win they always want Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland to win.

England were unimpressive. Carrick was cack, AJ out of position, Joe Cole diving about.

I for one are glad we drew they would of been able to say "well its all about results" if we'd won.

For once you and I are in total agreement, that equaliser is almost the best thing that could have happened to England - second only to a late Dutch winner.

Not their fault the Dutch were shit. You can only play whats put in front of you Jimminy. England had more than one attack (two[:D]) and when the Dutch scored they went up the park and nearly went back in front. They can take far more positives from this game than the last two, where they have been second best. But I stress it's only s friendly, I think if it had been a qualifier it would have been a different Dutch performance. Players dont look interested in these friendly's.

Jimminy and Bob in agreement shock!!!! I Think I'll buy a hat, I hear wedding bells in the air [:D]

Dark Angel -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 10:01:48 PM)

That was a truly shit game of football. Both sides were just dreadful and it didn't seem as if either team really cared about the game.

I hate that argument, any half decent England side and coach should have realised they had the opportunity to batter one of the traditional European super-powers on their turf and gain some much needed confidence. It's not like Holland set up two banks of five within their own half and invited England on, there were goals if England and McClaren wanted them. As it was, they coasted and were shite.

KennyM -> RE: The England Football Thread (15/11/2006 10:45:04 PM)

Yes its a bit of a cliche isnt it? I just thought England looked far more comfortable in this game than in the pevious two. I did say they impressed me in patches, I never said they looked class and were world beaters. They looked comfortable with the ball, Rooney was in the game more without Crouch on acting as a magnet for long balls, defence (though it wasn't troubled too much) looked better, with that young chap at right back looking solid as the game went on. Robinson still looks a bit dodgy with crosses though. It was a better looking performance than what I saw of them in the Croatia and Macedonia games, thats what I saw.

Philo Bedo -> RE: The England Football Thread (16/11/2006 12:27:39 AM)

I only made the remark about the commentator because he was constantly going on about how good England were playing and how bad Holland were.  Every time Holland made 'through roads' it was down to bad play from England rather than good play from Holland and by the end it was a tad annoying.  It was obvious both teams were cack and a draw was the fair result.

Thats because for once you were right. [;)]  Although the Dutch late winner is off the mark. It would of put more pressure on the players and staff after the shite that's been served up. People aren't stupid they know we were shit and got away with it however the result will keep the press from going too OTT for now.

Rinc -> RE: The England Football Thread (16/11/2006 11:09:36 AM)

Very poor game, yet again and the fact England can't string a few passes together is worrying indeed. Just a few thoughts:

- Why oh why was Johnson played out of position???? What is the point of that? It didn't do him or England any good.

- Carrick couldn't hold a plastic bag let alone a midfield. Fuck 18m being too much, i wouldn't pay 8m for him. He's a poor tackler, doesn't read the game too well, escpecially when he faces some pace, and his so called ability to pass is put to shame when around decent midfielders. He's a decent enough squad player but i'd never start with him especially agaist good teams.

- Richardson - left out of the squad but brought back in through injuries and manages to be one of only 2 substitutes. How can that be? Surely there are not only more deserving players that should be in the squad but also more deserving substitutes. Richardson is mroe pointless than Zenden for Liverpool - and that's saying something.

I know it's only a friendly but we saw neither experimentation with players (bar Richards), nor a workable formation we could use in a proper game. Rooney as the middle striker is useless as he likes to be behind another striker.

jesseLujack -> RE: The England Football Thread (16/11/2006 1:20:47 PM)

So another 'meh' England performance. And I generally agree with most of the points raised here.
Great to see Micah Richards have a good game, I see even Robben has this morning commented on how impressed he was.

It was also nice to somewhat of a return to form from Rooney, who looks to be almost back to be best.

I thought our passing in patches was quite good as well, it showed we are capable of doing it which in a way makes it all the more frustrating.

Fluke Skywalker -> RE: The England Football Thread (16/11/2006 8:17:13 PM)

Christ watching England is so bloody boring - why the fuck do I bother? Coz according to sod's law when I finally give up the bastards will play a blinder and thrash someone.

We just can't string a decent run of passes together in midfield. It really is a sad situation but at least the defence is operating ok.

Hardcore Raver -> RE: The England Football Thread (2/2/2007 4:31:40 PM)

The squad to face Spain next wednesday:

Robinson (Tottenham), Foster (Watford), Kirkland (Wigan); Gary Neville (Man Utd), Phil Neville (Everton), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Woodgate (Middlesbrough), Bridge (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), Carragher (Liverpool), Dawson (Tottenham), Richards (Man City); Lennon (Tottenham), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Carrick (Man Utd), Downing (Midd'boro), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Parker (Newcastle), Lampard (Chelsea), Barry (Aston Villa), Barton (Man City), Jenas (Tottenham), Dyer (Newcastle); Rooney (Man Utd), Crouch (Liverpool), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Everton).

It's nice to see Barton and Barry in there. I was worried that McClaren might leave Barton out after his comments about the England players releasing autobiographies. I'm also glad to see Richardson not getting in there. I might actually watch this game now, despite promising myself I'd never watch another England friendly after the Holland game.
