Spider -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (26/11/2006 9:44:44 PM)

Touching the Void was pretty good actually. Perhaps not as good as I thought it would be because firstly the ending was dissapointing (not of the story, as obviously it's a true story but the way it was handled - it was like "so that's it"), and I also thought at the end "well that was inspiring, and a little bit moving, but it didn't really have a huge amount of point".

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (1/12/2006 1:52:32 PM)

This week's list is up and running on page one.

Right, back to working on the Christmas list!

Spider -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (7/12/2006 9:21:28 AM)

Is this christmas going to be good for films?

Also, do you know when the Christmas TV Listings are released yet? As in, not when you get them, but when the Radio Times and TV Guide etc release the 2 week christmas special editions.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (7/12/2006 2:03:27 PM)

Okay. I can let you into some secrets. The full Christmas list does not get released until next week (Tuesday to be precise, when you can buy the Christmas edition of the the TV guides).

I will try to have a list up as soon as I get it. It might not be in the form they are at the moment due to so many films being shown.

What I can tell you, as far as the network premieres are concerned, the biggie is Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. BBC have that and will probably be showing it either Christmas Day or Boxing Day (prob the latter as they have the new Xmas Doctor Who as their ratings winner that night).

Others that have been confirmed are:

Mrs Henderson Presents
City of God
Calender Girls
The Hours
Adaptation
Monsters Inc.

As I said, I am compling the list leading up to Christmas as we speak and then next week I will list the major movies on this very page. So look out for that.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (8/12/2006 7:11:53 AM)

Time for a new list. Just look at page one and you will see it. Have fun!

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (11/12/2006 3:15:33 PM)

The brand new list of movies on TV has now been finalised and I will be posting the whole thing on this page within the next few days. It won't be as comprehensive as my usual listings, but it will pin-point the ones to look for and the ones to avoid.

I can tell you that the premieres are very few and far between this time round, and we are being treated to some real classics. Plus, ITV have brought out the Back To The Future trilogy and the Jurassic Park threesome...AGAIN! Tons for the family to enjoy as well as a season of The Falcon movies very late on BBC2.

Not the strongest of years by any stretch, but I'm sure you will find something to keep you occupied in between watching your Superman box set!

As I said, the list will be up and running by the end of this week, and will have three weeks worth of movie entertianment. (Does that mean I get a break for Christmas?)

Spider -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (12/12/2006 5:51:02 PM)

Yay!

Can you post the christmas listings in here as well as a stand alone thread, since people will love a discussion about the highlights of the season!

Amelie_Scotland -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (14/12/2006 9:36:04 PM)

There are some gret films on this Xmas...i own most of them but still a great selection!

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 11th Nov to Fri 17th Nov (NEW LIST) (15/12/2006 9:56:23 AM)

Next week's movie listing is here for you to mull over. Look out for the next listing coming up in the next few days. (It's taking a little longer than I thought).

SUNDAY 17TH DECEMBER

ONLY YESTERDAY 3pm Film4
Forgotten 30s British melodrama about a girl who has a one night stand, and then years later, meets the man again.

I'm pretty sure that this is actually the great Studio Ghibli anime film from 1991.

BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA 11.25pm five *RECOMMENDED*
Francis Ford Coppola's take on the classic horror is fairly faithful to the original source, with Gary Oldman in top form as the infamous vampire, who finds himself in England and meeting Winona Ryder as the woman of the his desires. Good atmosphere, creepy and a film of very high production values. Shame that they miscast Keanu Reeves as an Englishman.

Hurrah, Twister! It must have been over a week since ITV has shown it.[8D] Still, a guilty pleasure.

Rhubarb -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 16th Dec to Fri 22nd Dec (NEW LIST) (16/12/2006 11:08:56 PM)

This is looking an epic task Wrenster!

Good stuff so far, Grizzly Man and Clockwork Orange, The Omen and Halloween this week are all classic stuff.

Empitomezzo -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: An Apology (4/1/2007 12:25:23 PM)

Tis OK.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: An Apology (5/1/2007 7:17:25 PM)

Yes guys! The Listing is back after the Christmas break.

Enjoy!

FRIDAY 12TH JANUARY

BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS 11pm Film4 *HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*
Campy comedy drama from Russ Meyer about three girls who dream of making it big in Hollywood, but only become involved in sex, drugs and a sleazy way of life. The plot doesn't matter, as Meyer managed to go mainstream with this satire of Hollywood life. Dated but an interesting historical piece and just plain fun.

This is the greatest film of all time.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (12/1/2007 3:06:47 PM)

It's Friday, and that can only mean one thing...a new TV listing on page one. Enjoy!

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (14/1/2007 6:11:42 PM)

Listen up guys. As much as I love the support and kind words that I get about doing this thread every week, I do have to do a public service notice. This is repeated on the first page where the listings are.

PLEASE NOTE:

IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE MOVIES SHOWN ON TV, DON'T START A NEW THREAD, AS THE MODS WILL JUST LOCK IT DOWN.

THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOUR COMMENTS, MEMORIES, AND ANYTHING ELSE RELATING TO THE MOVIES ON THE BOX.

Nuff said?

Spider -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (14/1/2007 10:48:32 PM)

Annoyed that I forgot to record The Madness of King George last night. I wanted to see it because it was written by Alan Bennett but sailed out of the hosue and remembered about 10 minutes too late!

Final Destination 2 is on recording right now, oh how I looke forward to that [sm=rolleyes10.gif]

Also, following on from Wrenster's public service notice, there seems to be an ever diminishing amount of people posting in this thread. It's a shame because it's nice to see different people's tips, and discussion or comparison of the TV offerings of the week. Even moreso it seems more polite to acknowledge Wrenster's work by dropping a quick message of thanks, even if it doesn't explicitly say thanks by posting its acknowledging that you've used the guide.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (14/1/2007 11:56:25 PM)

Isn't that always the way? I'm always doing that. Forgetting a film that I want to either watch of record, but then I do get these listings almost two weeks before hand so I tend to forget. Have no fear, Spider. I am sure it will be reshown on Film4 in the not-too-distant future (or one of the other Channel 4 channels)

Recording Moonlight Mile at the moment, as I do like this film, even if it is a little downbeat in places.

Thanks for your kind words and support. It is nice to know that my listings are appreciated. I suppose there are those who like starting new threads just for the sake of it. And considering how long this thread has been going (as a sticky) there aren't that many comments, but loads do view it every week, which is a sign that there is an audience for it.

Lazy wolf eyes -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (15/1/2007 12:54:42 AM)

I always look forward to your list, Wrenster.  When I read a tv guide they never say whether a film is shite or not, just a summary.  But you always give your opinion and I always try to catch those that are highly recommended.  You're doing a great job. [:)]

Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy doing it and even if it does take a week to compile, it keeps me busy and when people say it's helpful, then I'm happy.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 6th Jan to Fri 12th Jan (IT'S BACK!) (19/1/2007 9:28:42 AM)

Time Bandits jumps on The Goonies and bounces up and down until it gives in!

I have never rated The Goonies. The concept is fine, it's just the kids. They are, what I call, drama school brats! And their level of speaking goes from loud to louder still to just plain shouting!

Whereas Time Bandits has a certain dignity about it, even if it is completely off the wall. Visually and comically, it is a far superior movie. And let's face it, in a directorial fight between Gilliam and Donner, Gilliam would win hands down. No contest.

Kyle_R_ -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 20th Jan to Fri 26th Jan (NEW LIST) (26/1/2007 5:17:55 PM)

Thanks a lot for this thread, wrenster.  Only discovered it about 10 days ago but it has gave me a heads-up on a lot of films I wouldn't have noticed! So thank you. One small request though... do you think when you update for a new list you could keep the current days 'fixtures', maybe just in the last post or something, I only ask because I came to see what was on tonight but its not up now. No problem, just a suggestion.

wrenster -> RE: Wrenster's Movies On TV: Sat 20th Jan to Fri 26th Jan (NEW LIST) (27/1/2007 12:39:52 AM)

Glad you're enjoy the thread.

I always listen to what people have to say, so especially for you, as the listing goes up on a Friday, I will keep the Fridays listing going until the Saturday. How's that?
