Calling all Avatar nuts! The time has come to reinforce our rules here over avatar sizes. We are hereby launching a seven day avatar amnesty where avatars bigger than our permitted 150kb can be removed and replaced with something smaller. We have had complaints from dial up users - yes, they do exist the poor poppets - that certain avatars are slowing up their forum use. Indeed, a quick scan today has revealed a few enormous "moving" avs, one of 750kb, miles over our limit. In seven days mods will begin quietly checking avatar sizes and offenders will be sent threatening messages full of words like "Martin Lawrence", "Freddie Prinze Jr" and "Matthew Lillard" as well as compulsory DVD watching passes to A51. I'm getting my copy of Black Knight ready for our first, er, guest!

If your are unsure how to check your av size, just right click on it, click properties and its all there.

Thanks guys, we know its a pain, and we know people work hard to make cool avs, but we have to cater for all our users. The size limit of 150kb has today been confirmed to mods by James Dyer in Area51, so no moaning, please.... [:D]

I get my shiny new moving AV and now can't use it.  Life is indeed harsh, but still it's better than receiving anything to do with Lawrence or Prinz Jr in my inbox.

Surely people who have faster speeds should be catered for - not the slow pokes.
 
It's like saying a football team should decrease their ability because one of the players isn't as good.
 
Perhaps instead of handicapping the faster people you should encourage the slow ones to speed up?

That av was huuuuuuuge, had to take a lot of frames out to make it under the limit. I tried two different ways of doing it so just take your pic, they're both just under 150kb

You've gotta be kidding, right? I just spent eighteen hours converting all of The Ice Pirates into a 100 x 100 .gif image! [;)]

And BBW - I'm sure the genius doesn't mind. If he'd known you wanted it for this forum he would have probably compressed it a bit more for the limits...

Yeah, sorry Neth, I just liked it so much I wanted to use it here too.  I didn't forsee this event happening.

When I click 'properties' for your av, it tells me that it is 435.39KB.  Does that help?

When you take into account sites like Rotten Tomatoes which have only a 20kb avatar limit, you guys have got it pretty good. [:)]

Sorry guys, the rules state 150kb so I am afraid all avatars will have to be under that limit. If we give leeway to one poster (even if its only 38kb) then we would have to give it to the others and be back to where we started.

Me too...did the 150kb come from La Grande Fromage?

150kb was the limit on the old place, but we sorta established when this new place opened that with the pixel size increasing to 100x100 the kb limit should increase proportionally. Just want to make sure we're all on the same page.

150kb is still plenty big enough though...I managed to squeeze the whole Psycho shower scene down to 150kb at the old place - it just means that all these guys that are new to the av making game are gonna have to learn how to optimize! [sm=tongueout.gif]
