Andy1986 -> Not Saoirse (3/10/2013 2:06:25 PM)

Please keep that lifeless Irish actress away from Star Wars.

Litshttam -> Clouded These New Movies' Future, Is (3/10/2013 7:22:30 PM)

Like or loathe the prequels, they're the sole vision of Star Wars' creator. I fear that there's too many fingers in the proverbial pie this time around. Thank God Lucas' shares give him a (significant) say.

Litshttam -> RE: Not Saoirse (3/10/2013 7:24:50 PM)

How the hell do you pronounce her name, anyway?!

SEERSHEH.

Litshttam -> RE: Not Saoirse (3/10/2013 11:01:31 PM)

The smoke clears! Ta.

McLovin1981 -> RE: Not Saoirse (5/10/2013 3:22:17 PM)

No need to be so racist Litshttam! Saoirse in the Irish language means freedom!!!

And no need to throw the 'racist' word around when it doesn't apply. It's not a particularly nice accusation.

She's actually probably the best young actress today.

elab49 -> RE: Not Saoirse (5/10/2013 6:33:23 PM)

She'd fit this tho' - she doesn't make great film choices.[:D]

Litshttam -> RE: Not Saoirse (5/10/2013 9:06:21 PM)

Not knowing how to pronounce a gobbledygook name is racist?! You sir / madam can f*** off.

Telling people to fuck off? Also not welcomed here. [:)]

And try not to go overboard - it's an unusual name, but hardly gobbledygook. Like many from a different language it's just unusual to those who don't know the language or pronunciation.

rich -> RE: Not Saoirse (6/10/2013 12:46:27 AM)

Haha they would have been a bit more justified against such a bizarre accusation, but calling it gobbledegook makes them about even on the dumb-ass stakes.

As for the topic at hand, it's not a bad choice for casting but I have only seen her in Hanna that I can recall.

I thought everything she's been in has been good except for the dire The Host!

Pronounced 'Seershah', spelt 'Saoirse'. Gobbledygook.

Hence the astericks.

We're grown ups here. The site permits swearing - but not at others. Asterisks don't change a thing.

Litshttam -> RE: Not Saoirse (6/10/2013 7:31:37 PM)

The astericks are indicitive of some quantum of sensitivity and tact on my part, so cut me some slack chum.

No, they're some kind of cod coyness is using the word you're using. As I said - we don't care about asterisks as the intent is no different, so please avoid abusing others on the board.

superdan -> RE: Not Saoirse (6/10/2013 9:43:05 PM)

The only thing that surprises me about this thread is that I realised I already knew how 'Saoirse' was pronounced and therefore I have an understanding of Gobbledygook. I'm thrilled to know I'm so multicultural. I think it was from 'Round Ireland With a Fridge' that educated me, if memory serves.

Litshttam -> RE: Not Saoirse (6/10/2013 10:35:00 PM)

I always avoid it, unless incited (an implication of racism, for instance). Don't incite me. Capiche (kapeesh)?

I have exactly this same fear. Lucas needs to be as involved as possible for these films to be good.

Be careful not to wander down to the World Cinema section, you'll have a meltdown.

Olaf -> RE: Not Saoirse (7/10/2013 4:49:33 PM)

'I didn't tell you to fuck off, I told you to f**k off! Major difference!'

superdan -> RE: Not Saoirse (7/10/2013 5:58:57 PM)

It's lucky England doesn't have a tradition of names with peculiar pronunciations compared to their spelling.

rawlinson -> RE: Not Saoirse (7/10/2013 6:18:29 PM)

Spelling it f**k and pronouncing it fuck. It's the hypocrisy that hurts the most.

She is a good actress, I just think her big problem as of late is the roles she's been picking.

AxlReznor -> RE: Not Saoirse (9/10/2013 8:24:36 AM)

How I Live Now looks interesting. Hanna was great. It's not popular but I really enjoyed The Lovely Bones and she was the best thing in it.
It's just The Host... all actors should stay away from anything Stephenie Meyer had a hand in.
