What if John Williams dies before the score for nine is complete.

Then his Force Ghost shall guide Michael Giacchino.

If by "Then his Force Ghost shall guide Michael Giacchino" you mean "Giacchino will relentlessly steal from Williams" then right you are.

Lucasfilm Ltd. shot down that rumour the day after it was mentioned. They quoted that Abrams is currently overseeing the screenplay and is really looking forward to the start of shooting next year. Onto the fact that John Williams will be returning to do the music for the new STAR WARS is an absolute joy. You're right, Frank. John IS STAR WARS. It wouldn't have succeed without him.

That's good news, although I was concerned at Abrams not making an appearance at Star Wars Celebration and at the lack of casting news. 2015 isn't far away now.

I'm sure it'll all be ok though. Everything thus far has been positive.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Danny Elfman and his Orchestra ;-)

Based on the six lengthy SW scores he's already composed, there's enough quality material in them that could be endlessly adapted to suit any possible dramatic requirement. It doesn't even have to be the specific, leitmotif stuff either - although if some of the classic cast really are returning, then why can't we have returns for some of their thematic material too? If for whatever reason, Williams was unable to complete the job, there's vast amounts of existing music that could be picked up by another composer. Or, put it another way. Williams only directly scored one Superman film, yet his themes dominated the scores for the following three (adapted by Ken Thorne and Alexander Courage). Or, Williams wasn't able to fully score the second Harry Potter film, but did anyone notice that his work was adapted by (I think) William Ross?
