She's far too pretty to be Carrie.

Wasn't Carrie pretty in the book?

Madhava -> Lol no Carries was not pretty in the book (27/5/2013 12:13:57 AM)

No, Carrie was ugly and fat in the book. The whole point is that she's an uncool, bullied kid with no social skills. I kinda like the look of this movie, but yeah she definitely seems too pretty and cool to be Carrie.

Carrie WAS pretty in the book, and she was CERTAINLY not fat! No one noticed because she was always dressed frumpy and conservative. But there is a whole bit about how beautiful she was when she went to Prom.

Just because Sissy Spacek was ugly as hell doesn't mean every Carrie afterwords has to be!

Count Karnstein -> Carrie - pretty? (27/5/2013 3:07:22 PM)

NeoBrowser, thats a bit harsh to say Sissy Spacek was ugly as hell, isn't it?? She was ok. The book's character is described as:

"a very peculiar girl who came from a very peculiar family...She was a plain-looking country girl, but she'd changed the black skirt and white blouse – which was all anybody had ever seen her in – for a bright-colored checkered blouse with puffed sleeves and a skirt that was fashionable at the time. And everybody made worse fun of her because nobody wanted to see her change the mold"...

Basically she was doomed from the get go - persecuted just for being different. I think that Moretz and Spacek are not classically beautiful and therefore could pull it off - its more about their acting chops.
