So you have a licensed soundtrack in a movie instead of an original one, pretty effective in the right circumstances right? Anyone unable to hear that music though afterwards without thinking of say ... the bodies piling up in Goodfellas? Like a permanent association, do you think it's annoying or just one of those things?

Yeah, of course. But the same could be said of music videos to songs. You're putting together imagery you have seen with the music.

But those were intended to promote the musician as intended. Is anyone able to remove the mental association with say Michael Madsen and Stealers Wheel? What's the kind of thing other people think about when say the radio is on?

I don't have a problem with that, in fact i end up loving the song even more. Like The Doors The End from Apocalypse Now or even Barry Manilow because Hellboy and Abe were singing along to it! [:D]

In fact i think the thread should be 'Songs that ruin movie' in which case Leona Fucking Lewis warbling cringe-worthyingly in Avatar wins it for me hands down. You might say Avatar was quite poor prior to the credit song, but that crap song for me shat all over the movie without even having the decency of saying 'oops'!

Not really. If the music video to Billie Jean were a static shot of a green flower for four minutes - guess what I'd think of every time I hear the song. With you Michael Madsen example, of course people who are a fan of the film, or have watched it even a couple of times are going to think of the scene upon hearing the music. That's my point. There is something in the brain that links vision, hearing and smell... it's nothing to write home about, it's just natural.

I don't think the movies that happens to me with are capable of "ruining" the songs really, because they tend to be movies that I love.
Commercials on the other hand shit over everything that was good about a song in order to make you think of a car or a phone every time you hear it... can't stand that shit.

It's one of those things - can't really avoid it. I like it, but then I like films, so it's nice to be reminded of those films when I hear the music out of context.
