Despite all impressions to the contrary, the family is still strong and vibrant today.
“But there is no denying the crisis that threatens it to its foundations – especially in the western world.

Blinkered old cunt.

While up to now we regarded a false understanding of the nature of human freedom as one cause of the crisis of the family, it is now becoming clear that the very notion of being – of what being human really means – is being called into question

I may be misinterpreting this, but is he saying a gay person is not human?

directorscut -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 5:27:19 PM)

A deeply Catholic man born in 1927 having old fashioned views?

sanchia -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 5:38:38 PM)

It doesn't change the fact he has essentially labelled gay people as not being human if that is a correct assessment. That is not an old fashioned view that is a hideous view which was used in the late 30's and early 40's to justify murder and is a view which should never be revisited.

Woger -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 6:29:06 PM)

Who better to talk about marriage than an unmarried celibate man who is the head of an organisation of unmarried celibate men.

Hood_Man -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 6:58:05 PM)

Nothing brings family's together more than hiding who you are from your parents, siblings and friends, or getting into a relationship you don't want & bringing children into that environm-

Actually, I can't be bothered. Here are some animals looking fabulous!

It is probably the best way for gay people to approach the whole subject. Take the higher moral ground.

superdan -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 9:46:48 PM)

It's no shock that the Pope is against gay marriage, but I'm always amused at depictions of gay marriage being a 'threat'. It makes no sense. How does two people of the same sex getting married threaten the marriages of heterosexual people? Especially since (I presume) a significant proportion of people who get married in the UK couldn't give two shits about the religious aspect of the institution anyway.

sanchia -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (22/12/2012 9:51:02 PM)

In fact they reported yesterday that 40% of marriages in the U.K. end in divorce.

The Waco Kid -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 1:27:44 PM)

there was a chap in the 30's and 40's with the same ideas he went on to massacre millions of people including gay people his name was Hitler.
apparently there was this thing as well called the Hitler Youth which i believe the pope was a part of.
it seems the indoctrination is still working.

Nexus Wookie -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 1:54:13 PM)

You can agree or disagree with gay marriages, its doesn't matter which, but to call gays non-human? That is pretty silly. What are they then? Extra-terrestrials?

sanchia -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 2:05:20 PM)

I think that is in fact the most damaging aspect of the entire thing. He can have his views on Gay marriage and it is unsurprising considering where he is coming from but the way in which he did it was incredibly unpleasant and disturbing.

MonsterCat -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 5:23:04 PM)

People have the right to live the life they choose. Quite frankly, fuck this crusty old twat.

Poses a threat... give me a fucking break.

Its quite clear from his comments that the Pope needs to

A) take a chill pill, or
B) get laid!

[:D]

sanchia -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 7:46:57 PM)

A potentially could lead to B.

Erlenmeyer Flask -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 7:55:39 PM)

Fun video from one of Ireland's 'pro-family' type groups.

rich -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (1/1/2013 11:59:37 PM)

Says the guy that gets his info from a book that says men laying passionately together should be killed. So basically he's doing his job...? Why exactly people these days are still obsessed with making life statements based on who is sleeping with who, is kind of a mystery ... but this is probably the one old crackpot you should hear no different from. Organised religion is basically full of idiots, but I don't understand why people still call themselves Catholics if they are disagreeing with him.

That book also says that he should kill people with different faiths and if a person sins both they and their entire family should be put to death.

Flatulent_Bob -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (2/1/2013 9:05:24 AM)

Well I think marriage was around prior to Catholicism so he doesn't have any religious doctrine on it, or any right to state what he has. However I do personally think any Church making the decision not to allow a particular wedding in their building is and should be perfectly fine.

Stories like this just show organised religion to be further disconnected from general society and the gap is widening.

And people still want to be Christians or call out others for having no morals based on this kind of stuff.

Yeah, well shut up then. [:D]

Doesn't it kind of depend on whether you celebrated Christmas as the coming of the Saviour. Or, as a time to be with family and friends. As I understand it, the Christmas holiday was a hi-jacking of a pagan holiday.

jonson -> RE: Pope says Gay Marriage a threat (2/1/2013 4:11:53 PM)

Yeah, I have atheist family members who bored me to death on Christmas Day how it's a pagan holiday, or some other bollocks.
I'm just being flippant [:D] I also like winding up English people who celebrate St Patrick's Day, although they are marginally worse.

Shit we all celebrated it, that means we condone this gibberish about murdering people because they are different [;)]

Absolutely agree the anti gay marrage Church brigade say they resent marriage being redefined and what right does the PM have of redefining it but he`s not redefining straight marraiges he`s just making marriage rules fairer and more just so gay people can have the same marital rights as straight people. What right other than expressing disapproval do they have to demand gay men and woman continue to not be fully married an interfere in gay peoples lives....none! It`s gay peoples business and as long as religous organisations who are against the idea of gay marriage aren`t forced to marry gay couples which is the case if these rules get through in my view they have no right to try and stop us (I`m gay) from committing ourselves to loving sexual financial agreements.

Now the C of E is saying you can be a gay bishop in a civil partnership as long as your celebate and repent of your past sexual activity! That`s as daft as the Catholic Church saying priests can be married as long as they don`t have sex with their wives and apologise for ever doing so in the past!!! Pretty inslulting to their other halves if not to them and unlikley most in that position of being in a civil partnership will want to be a bishop and compromise. An empty gesture to me from the C of E.
