It's no secret that all of the Hobbit films will be extended and presumably all given the same lavish 'special edition' treatment that all the LOTR films received. Given how DVD has been gradually getting marginalised in terms of special features for quite some time now, how likely is it that none of the goodies will appear on DVD? In other words, the theatrical editions will be released on DVD and BD but the extended editions (with all the special features) will be BD-only? Personally, I think it's highly likely.

Probably, but people have learned by now .... right? [;)]

By the time The Hobbit comes out home video Blu-ray will have been out for SEVEN YEARS.

Blu-ray isn't the future, it's the now. DVD is the past. Join the times FPS.

I'm just worried that all the good stuff will only be available on the 3D blu-rays.

I was wondering how a film shot in 4k 3d is going to be compressed onto a blu ray!

Probably the same way the 4K remaster of Lawrence of Arabia was, which looks fucking awesome btw.
