Powka -> Other film discussion forums (1/12/2012 11:04:00 PM)

Hey,

Anyone in here visits any other film forums? Any recommendations of an active community, maybe a US one?

Not to take anything from Empire, but this forum doesn't seem as active as it used to be.

Total Film have a forum.

paul_ie86 -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 1:41:33 AM)

Also, twitter.com

The Others. Quick, beat them with your jesus stick!

Pigeon Army -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 1:00:03 PM)

the word 'outraged' does not have enough synonyms to describe how 'outraged' I am

Sarcasm, I'm afraid. Common in this sub-forum where the responses may not always be as helpful as you'd hope for a serious question. BUT it is Off-Topic and a general air of playfulness does tend to apply in here. [:)]

Paul's probably right though - so much film talk seems to have migrated to Twitter where people attempt to give substantive opinions in 140 characters. Still baffles me.

Twitter discussion can be fun though. Watching Girvan slowly boil over Ruby Sparks was a thing of beauty.

And yet you are highly active on that particular medium... Hmm...

elab49 -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 2:53:11 PM)

That's not what I mean at all. I just don't really find a useful way to discuss films - it turns too much into glib soundbites. I'd much prefer to discuss that in here, with a bit of space to expand on things.

homersimpson_esq -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 3:56:04 PM)

I like the challenge of distilling a wordy argument down to 140 characters. If you have to make a point that needs a multi-part tweet, it cancels the point of twitter.

I don't think elab tries to give substantive opinions in 140 characters, her replies are always, like, twenty tweets long. [:D]

elab49 -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 10:17:11 PM)

I keep meaning to find that think Paul sometimes uses, Tweet longer or something like that. [:D]

I disagree with that. Just because Twitter has a 140 character limit doesn't mean that every argument must boil down to that one tweet. I enjoy people who give opinions over multiple tweets. I despise soundbite reviews.

A few people back in the day were also members of Rotten Tomatoes - don't know if the forum is still going. Or you could try posting here a bit more. [:D]

Scruffybobby -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 10:46:30 PM)

I'm signed up to IMDB, SFX and Rotten Tomatoes - hardly ever post on them them though

Shifty Bench -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 10:51:25 PM)

It has been quiet around here lately but I wouldn't personally join a new forum now. Things will pick up.

Anyone think all these spammers are putting people off?

elab49 -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 10:55:09 PM)

Empire are trying a new wheeze to see if it slows it down - IT are taking it seriously now.

Shifty Bench -> RE: Other film discussion forums (2/12/2012 10:56:16 PM)

Good stuff [sm=happy34.gif]

Let's hope it works [:D]
