What’s the thinking on the trailer for this? We thinking WB will attach the teaser to The Hobbit, as they are bound to with the MoS theatrical.

They'd be fools not too. I don't think the Man of Steel teaser trailer was attached to many prints of Dark Knight Rises so WB NEED to sell their reinvention of a character people were turned off by the last time they saw him on film. And they NEED to sell as many people as possible on their new, original tentpole. Only place to do so is for The Hobbit, a film that everyone is going to go see.

It's Guillermo del Toro, so of course I'm into this, but am I the only person who sees this as him trying to do a live-action version of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, without the hassle of actual doing it?

On paper, it just seems a little uninspired. Big Robots Vs. Big Monsters. Sure it will look the absolute business but I hope there is some real substance that brought him to this. Thus far I am not really a big fan of his when he works in English. His Spanish language films have all been truly outstanding but he never seems to get near those heights with his Hollywood efforts for me.

If this is the one that fusses the 2 sides of his work though, it could be something really special!

rich -> RE: RE: (26/11/2012 3:10:54 PM)

Yeah things tend to get a little .... awkward when he starts making films in English, but I think this has potential. That's not so say Hellboy/Blade 2 are not fun, but nothing like the magic of Pan's Labyrinth and the others. I would have liked to see how his Hobbit turned out personally. Let's hope there are some big script ideas behind the big robot battles.

Impressed with that news footage video. Instantly reminded me of the Cloverfield virals. Which is no bad thing.

rich -> RE: RE: (29/11/2012 9:21:59 PM)

I hate Cloverfield. I imagine it's just a marketing thing though.

I thought it was a piece of relatively enjoyable throw away guff.  Decent enough fun in the cinema but nothing more… whatsoever. What a highly irritating  group of individuals! I think the fact that they offed a few of them in quite unpleasant ways made me enjoy it more than I should have. [:D]

But I’m hoping Pacific Rim has a lot more going for it.

I never saw Battleship… but that is niggling away in my mind whenever I think of Pacific Rim at the moment. I’m seriously hoping that the trailer lays that fear well and truly to rest.

pete_traynor -> RE: RE: (13/12/2012 9:19:35 AM)

Well my initial reservations are still very much intact.

Looks pretty uninspired.

Personally, I’m getting too much of a Godzilla (remake) and Transformers vibe from the trailer.

Yeah but imagine that kind of material in the hands of someone who isn't a total cretin like Bay and Emmerich.

The exact vibe I get from the new trailer. NERV vs Godzilla.

rich -> RE: RE: (15/12/2012 12:52:02 PM)

I am hoping for NERV vs Cthulhu personally

Also: clicky

elab49 -> RE: Pacific Rim (7/7/2013 9:52:13 PM)

Transformers wishes it was as much fun as this. [8|]

Isn't Cineworld sometimes a bit odd about listings? It goes through periods where it doesn't turn up on Google listings eg.

Scruffybobby -> RE: Pacific Rim (7/7/2013 10:12:48 PM)

Dunno about Cineworld but there's nowt for Vue (my local in Livi) and nothing on the Find Any Film site which seems a bit odd for a big film opening within a week.

elab49 -> RE: Pacific Rim (7/7/2013 10:41:06 PM)

Showcase is fine - I think they're only our side of the country though.

Scruffybobby -> RE: Pacific Rim (7/7/2013 10:54:03 PM)

I've no doubt a current lack of listings does not mean a lack of screenings. If it does though I can always watch THIS

elab49 -> RE: Pacific Rim (8/7/2013 10:04:53 AM)

Embargo is over - I'm guessing the review should be up soon.

Macavity -> RE: Pacific Rim (8/7/2013 12:02:10 PM)

I'm going to go ahead and bet on 3 stars.

Dannybohy -> RE: Pacific Rim (8/7/2013 12:45:04 PM)

i'll be going to see it either way! lookig forward to it
but I would bet on solid 3 star from Empire too!....

elab49 -> RE: Pacific Rim (8/7/2013 12:47:17 PM)

I don't know - Empire's peeps seemed to enjoy it and as I'd give it 7-8/10 - with huge chunks of it making up for the character issues - I think it's got a fair (and reasonable) chance of a 4.

Wild about Wilder -> RE: Screening times (5/8/2013 10:04:34 AM)

Even though it hasn't performed that well in the US & over here, judging by it's worldwide take $290m+ it'll hopefully have a chance at a sequel?

Wild about Wilder -> RE: Screening times (27/8/2013 9:44:07 AM)

Amazing don't think I've ever heard of a summer Blockbuster taking 75% of it's take from foreign markets rather than the US especially China over $100m in 3 weeks![sm=52.gif] yet still not made that in US in god knows how long.

StevenKThomas -> RE: Pacific Rim (27/9/2013 10:49:07 AM)

I really want to check out this film because I understand Guillermo del Toro is such a big fan of anime I'd like to see for myself how it translates onto screen. Might even help for some inspiration in my own work.
