emogeek -> The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:16:53 PM)

Disney have announced that they've bought Lucasfilm - and already confirmed episode 7 for 2015....

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20121030/us-disney-lucasfilm/

Does this mean no more tinkering from Georgie?

MonsterCat -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:24:31 PM)

Star Wars Episode 7?

Jesus, talking about beating a dead horse to a heaving, bloody pulp.

Shifty Bench -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:27:54 PM)

This doesn't bode well for Star Wars fan film makers. I know two dudes who have made fan films, one currently making one right now and they are a bit worried.....

But this is Disney we're talking about. It's not like they're the sort of huge corporate behemoth who would unleash the lawyers at the slightest hint of....

Ah, right. It's Disney...

Shifty Bench -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:33:14 PM)

[:D]

Exactly. Lucasfilm were great and let fans make films using Star wars characters,Lucas even encouraged it. Disney may not be so forgiving.

vad3r -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:34:40 PM)

Great news. More Star Wars > Less Star Wars. Who doesn't want brand new SW motion pictures? The only negative is we have to wait until 2015.

Director/Writer - Whedon

Luke Skywalker - Zac Efron
Anakin Skywalker - Aaron Paul
Han Solo - Nathan Fillion

Mace Windu - Michael Jai White
Lando Calrissian - Don Cheadle
C-3PO - Simon Pegg
Darth Vader (voice) - Laurence Fishburne
Darth Maul - Scott Adkins
Count Dooku - Donald Sutherland
Palpatine - Anthony Hopkins

Anyone who saw the prequels?[:D]

MonsterCat -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:39:53 PM)

Problem is, where can you take the Star Wars franchise now that it's all been pretty much wrapped up? Disney only bought Lucasfilm because they want a piece of that Star Wars pie.

I know there's the cartoon series, but that stuff is just pointless waffle.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Let's not do any more Terminator or Alien films because the third and fourth are shit.

Hood_Man -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:41:20 PM)

I don't really mind.

No, that would be shit.

Not that I'm averse to seeing more of the SW universe but I have no interest in seeing any remakes.

Hood_Man -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:44:36 PM)

Oooooh, here's a thought, a Joss Whedon directed Star Wars movie...

Star Wars is a gigantic universe. You could make 100 films and still have room left for more stories to be told.

The Clone Wars series is actually very good and hints at the potential this franchise has for epic sci fi.

About Star Wars, not that you don't mind, obviously. Disney want to make more money, they are a business after all, and there are fans who do want to see more films so good for them. As a non-Star Wars fan, it doesn't bother me either way [:)]

I really need to stop using that smiley when I'm obviously trying to make a serious point.

But could I live without more Star Wars movies? Yes.

Same with Terminator and Alien.

No, it won't be shit. That's a great director/writer/cast combination for this reboot. Whedon doesn't let people down.

You've made it clear you're against the idea of remakes. Me, I'm happy for every notable film ever to be remade. Why? Because it could be good, or it could be bad (as with any film). Either way, the original won't cease existing.

Ocean's 11, Dawn of the Dead, True Grit, 12 Monkeys, Funny Games, Scarface, 3:10 to Yuma, The Magnificent Seven, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Solaris, The Ring, The Fly, Cape Fear, The Departed, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Let Me In, Insomnia,

All of the above remakes are just as good if not better than their originals.

great_badir -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 8:57:16 PM)

Don't everyone get too excited about Lucas NOT directing - let us not forget that in the (very) early stages of pre-production of the prequels, Lucas said he would only serve as producer. Fast forward a few years and the fucker not only produced, but also wrote and directed...

Dollhouse... [sm=whistle.gif]

I don't mind the thought of more SW films, especially if George isn't directing them. I'd rather see something like a KotOR-era film than a continuation from the originals though (even though Thrawn could be kinda cool). And a remake is an awful idea [:'(]

Rebel scum -> RE: The Force Is Strong With... Disney (30/10/2012 9:04:22 PM)

Star Wars Episode VII, if it gets made, will be about the adventures of Luke's adorable kid as he becomes a Jedi. He will be aided by CGI that shouts a lot. All the characters we love will be conspicuously absent, apart from C-3PO and R2-D2 because they're in everything.

Calling it now.

Not sure how any fan of science fiction could say this. Terminator, Alien and Star Wars have such huge universes and ideas to explore. We've barely scratched the surface of their potential.
What if the next Star Wars film turns out to be a masterpiece?

My point still stands, sorry. It's no Buffy/Angel/Firefly (what is?) but it's still a damn fine piece of sci fi TV.

Yeeeeah it kinda would be shit - some flicks need to be left the fuck alone - Godfather, The Shining, Taxi Driver and Star Wars all being part of that list of flicks.

But lets say hypothetically they did remake the series, Zack bleeding Effron as Luke Skywalker?

We don't know in what form this so-called "reboot" will be. Who says it's going to be a remake anyway?

All this proves is that you have an opinion. In no way does it validate your shit re-make ideas.

Oh, and let's not forget Indiana Jones. Do you think they'll want a 5th film or a spin-off or something?

Yeah that Godfather sequel was gash, wasn't it?

I'm up for this. Episodes VII-IX without Lucas's shitty dialogue could be immense.

That thought makes me shudder, as it gave birth to this one:
