MuckyMuckMan -> Sky ON DEMAND service (30/10/2012 9:37:29 AM)

Anyone had/having trouble setting this up? I plugged an ethernet cable into my box and router but nothing has happened. Admittedly I bought a cheap ethernet cable (£2) but I'm convinced its not the cable casuing the problem. Anyone any ideas? or experiences that you can share that might help my situation.

This is all you need to do
1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the green port at the back of your Sky±HD box.
2. Plug the other end of the cable into a free port on your broadband router.

Are you getting an error message after you connected?  Does it come up saying "Broadband connection detected"?

It's not coming up with anything. I went into my settings and the broadband was off so I turned that on but still nothing.

Sorry to piggy back on this - but is there a way to do it if your Sky is on a different floor from your broadband router? I was wondering about these things you plug into power points that act as connectors.

Muck,

Have you got the latest Sky+ box?  How old is your box?   Just wondering as this service is currently being rolled out to all Sky+HD boxes and if yours is older it may not have had it yet.   Guessing this is the first time you have tried to connect to anything like this?
If you have the latest box, have you tried the ethernet cable on anything else to check that actually works? [:)]

elab, only way I know of is to use a wireless connector that you get from Sky.

elab49 -> RE: Sky ON DEMAND service (30/10/2012 3:31:26 PM)

Cheers Hobbs, I shall investigate. I hadn't realised till today that to get access to Iplayer I needed the broadband thing!

Chief -> RE: Sky ON DEMAND service (30/10/2012 3:41:03 PM)

£21.95 for the wireless connector from Sky - http://www.sky.com/products/kit/wireless-connector/

C'mon Hobbsy, I feel like I'm doing your sales job for you! [:D]

elab49 -> RE: Sky ON DEMAND service (30/10/2012 3:58:17 PM)

That looks even easier - thanks, Chief [:)]

Sorry for the slight hijack Muckymuck.

Chief -> RE: Sky ON DEMAND service (30/10/2012 4:09:10 PM)

I wonder why Sky don't make their new boxes with built in wireless?

Didn't want elab to feel she was being pressured into a sale (and also why I'm not a salesperson!) [sm=tongueout.gif]

I have a sky hd box but we've had it about 2-3yrs. It has a green bb port but is in a different place to where its shown in photo above

Have you ever connected via broadband on your Sky set up Mucky?

If you let me know the version number of your box (Settings, System settings) I can find out if you have the service available on your box and if not, when you are due to get it.

Also, just seeing the response on MySky, have you activated OnDemand on your account?

Sky want to make money...

http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/tv/on-demand/set-up/setting-up-wired-connection/

I had to enable something on my sky account online that allows anytime to work, but that was a long time ago when it first came out. It appears that you just need to hook it up now.

You can go through the settings on your skybox to see if it's connected to the router, it'll pickup an IP address, maybe something like 192.168.0.3 That'll confirm it is connected to the router at least!

Until now I haven't connected up the broadband to my sky box. I have signed up to the on demand service so that isn't the problem. I tried an ethernet cable I know works (from my xbox) and I got a little further last night, my anytime service was slightly updated to show more graphics instead of just a list of programmes. Still no prompt on screen when I plug the cable in though.

I'll have a look at my version no. tonight and let you know.

Hobbitonlass, will I need to do anything to get the boxsets, Iplayer, etc, on my Sky+ box when it's rolled out? I don't have anything connected from my Broadband to my Sky+ but can get all the OnDemand content. Not sure how that works, but must be some connectivity somewhere! The engineer set everything up for me. I've only watched since and not been messing around with the box. Joined Sky last November, so I have an up to date box.

elab49 -> RE: Sky ON DEMAND service (31/10/2012 1:55:19 PM)

Different type of On Demand - that's just a rename of the old anytime stuff.

To get Iplayer etc you need the internet connection - see my queries above (along with the solution from Chief).

Model No: R003.047.29.00P
Version No. 973006

Just found this:
