Captain Black -> Cheers - ITV4 every night (29/10/2012 8:09:00 PM)

I'm almost certain we've got a thread for this since I posted in it to say "I've been there", but couldn't find it, so anyway - this is on ITV4 each night at 7 (two episodes). Be interested to know if anyone who's not seen it before give it a shot and if they think it stands the test of time.

MI Cruise -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (29/10/2012 8:21:23 PM)

That would be me, I was thinking of watching this on CBS Drama when they started repeating this recently but glad i noticed this was about to start.

Never seen the show before and it looks great in HD in its OAR, surprised ITV4 didnt go for the widescreen HD transfers but I prefer it in 4:3 matches the time the show was made imo. 2 eps down and it seems like a nice show to watch although two episodes a day is a bit much

Rinc -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (30/10/2012 12:08:27 PM)

It's an incredible show, I advise everyone who hasn't seen it to watch it. [:)]

I'm a firm believer that if you call yourself a fan of comedy, you can't Not watch Cheers. It's not my favourite sitcom but I'd struggle to dispute it being the pinnacle in how to do sitcoms and comedy in general.

vad3r -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (30/10/2012 5:53:20 PM)

Cheers was the best sitcom of the 80's and Seinfeld the 90's.

It is, Diane has a mental breakdown after the breakup at the end on 2 and Frasier is her doctor/beau. He was such a good addition to the gang

One of the highlights of that season is the flashback sequence when Diane playing coqate at the home and then starts attacking the old lady with the club[:D]

Very funny stuff, I like the one where they decide to move in and Diane gets the allergy. All that said I loved Frasier in the in the fourth season when he wants to kill Diane but at the same time wants to get her back. He played it brilliantly.

Captain Black -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (8/12/2012 8:19:15 PM)

When you watch them day after day, it's really interesting to see how the episodes are expanded and pushing into new areas. Pretty much the only set in the first season is the bar (and the office and the back room); then from 2 they add Diane's apartment; and now there are more stylistic differences like the flashback musht mentions, and the voice bits with the footage of the characters' homes.

Good point, of course in season four you have the bowling episode and the one in the airplane, this was before something like Seinfeld
of course which was big on that kind of thing. Really need to see more as I have only seen up to four and then some of the later ones with Alley.

spark1 -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (11/12/2012 10:26:54 AM)

interesting to see the one with frasier's mother in light of the spin off series.

matty_b -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (11/12/2012 10:38:54 AM)

Yeah, I think Frasier the show pretty much rewrote the character of his mother.

spark1 -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (19/12/2012 12:06:00 PM)

bye, coach. hi, woody.

ElephantBoy -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (29/12/2012 4:43:26 PM)

While he has not been in evey episode I do think season four is when the Fraiser character really comes into his its own. His reactions to Diane losing interest in him are priceless and gives Sam a run for his money in the smug stakes too[:)]

Loved last nights episode with Diane's dream within a dream, and the playing with horror convinctions were very funny.

Missed that one. Sounds like Incpetion. [:D]

Did they not directly address Coach's death in a particular episode? I've missed a few. There were a few episodes where he was clearly away, so I assumed those scripts were written with him in, but were changed slightly.

He's missing from the last three or so episodes of season 3 but he is in some of the pre-episode bits; he was away visiting family I think. Then at the start of season 4 (which is set a while after the end of Season 3) Sam tells Woody that Coach has died, as Woody came to visit him

ElephantBoy -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (5/1/2013 9:23:05 PM)

Are these shown on ITV-player (or whatever they call it)? Have not returned to uni so don'y have a tv to watch.

Skiba -> RE: Cheers - ITV4 every night (9/1/2013 4:39:41 PM)

Great early evening viewing this...set them to record and then watch a few in a row.

This was must see TV in my house as a kid on Friday night along with Roseanne and Who's Line...although my memory is very hazy so it may have been another night!

Extremely am just amazed such a funny show has the worse possible sponsor skit before. Luckily I now watch it on i-player so don't have to put up with it.

It's terrible. Terrible drink, terrible game being played by a terrible family, in a terrible living room.

I loved Coach but Woody's arrival really cranks up the laughs.

One of my favourite quotes from Woody from the other night when Fraiser is showing the gang the slides of him and Diane in Europe and she is in every one:

Fraiser: "And thats the one of Venice"

Woody: "She looks a lot like Miss Chambers" [:D]

Ah shit can't believe I missed that one. Frasier is great in that episode.

Tonight's episode with the opera is one of my favourites from season 4

Frasier: Perhaps you could take her to the opera

Sam: Aw c'mon Doc, It's not like we pushed her down the stairs!!
