This looks amazing, hats off to the fella.

"Red Bull Stratos, a mission to the edge of space, will attempt to transcend human limits that have existed for 50 years. Supported by a team of experts Felix Baumgartner plans to ascend to 120,000 feet in a stratospheric balloon and make a freefall jump rushing toward earth at supersonic speeds before parachuting to the ground. "

It's times like this that I really hate not being able to stream video at work!

I remember reading about this a few months ago (I posted a pic on the WOW images thread at the time).  Apparently nobody knows what will happen to the human body at the sound barrier without the protective cocoon of an aircraft.  Just in case, they've put a 20 second delay on the video stream.

Professor Moriarty -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:29:26 PM)

You aren't missing much. Longshot of a crane holding up the capsule and a few service vehicles around. Couple of people walking around, but nothing much of excitement as far as I can tell.

Text says Mission on Weather Hold. Earliest Launch 13:30.

No sign of a balloon inflating, so I'd say 2:30 earliest.

Chief -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:37:50 PM)

Postponed until 2pm.

GET THE FINGER OUT FELIX - HOW HARD CAN IT BE???

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:42:51 PM)

As long as it is before 3pm as I have a meeting then and won't be able to watch!!

Ghidorah -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:56:10 PM)

I hope they don't confuse the ballon for another UFO.[:D]

DancingClown -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:57:57 PM)

Livestream doesn't work.

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 1:57:57 PM)

Apparently there is a 20s delay in live streaming in case anything goes wrong.....

It doesn't seem to be loading now for some reason. Least of the worries I'd expect but damn it, I want to see it!

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:01:50 PM)

Ah, I had that when I tried via IE at work but in Chrome it works.

I am now hoping that it is delayed until after 3pm as it is 2 hours up and 10 mins down and my meeting is 3 - 5pm!

EDIT: Launch now 14:30

DancingClown -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:05:09 PM)

There's a livestream here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vkJ5ItzEq3M#

Nothing much happening. Not sure what we could expect to 'see' anyway.

It was working fine with Chrome earlier and now it's just a black screen. At this rate you'll be able to watch it when you get home!

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:06:21 PM)

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing.

As far as I know we'll see him take 2 hours to get up there and 10 mins to fall back to earth [:D]

I've still got it, just seen a plane take off in the distance (not that I'm bored or anything) [:D]

DancingClown -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:09:50 PM)

If he breaks the sound barrier does that mean he'll make a sonic boom?

Funkyrae -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:20:32 PM)

Making him a Sonic Boom Boy?

Hobbitonlass -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 2:30:10 PM)

Now it's been delayed until at least 17:30 GMT (next update at 15:30)

donethinking -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 3:51:57 PM)

The weather looks nice, how is it on weather hold!!?

I think there's high wind speed at a certain altitude (70,000ft?). Don't want him landing in a cactus.

sharkboy -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 4:00:52 PM)

Though you'd have to love the thought of that - to have an incident-free drop from 120,000ft only to end with a cactus stuck in his arse with 5ft to go [:)]

donethinking -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 4:03:46 PM)

As long as he doesnt do a Jeb Corliss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFk6hxHIR0Q

Ooh, just got back in time to see this, happy days [8D]

sanchia -> RE: Red Bull Stratos (9/10/2012 5:15:02 PM)

I gather it has been put off a few times? It says the livestream is supposed to start again at 17:00, it is now 17:15 ands there are some stationary pictures of a cloud on there.

Apparently it will resume in 57 minutes.

Did you not see him. He was going awful fast when he went through the cloud. Even though he was flapping his arms like billy-o
