silence1 -> A true sci-fi, but doesn't quite reach the mothership (23/1/2013 1:10:17 PM)

X-com:enemy unknown......well where do I start? A very addictive game
that allows people to experience a game from a commanders point of view
rather than the classic soldiers. To me this game is a classic thats
format has only been tried by a few such as Lego or the makers of Tom
Clancy's End War which are both 2nd rate games that give this type of
game a bad name. The game is mostly underrated and should really be
given credit for what it is and the fact it's this kind of game which
usually end up being sold off before they're completed.

The game isn't perfect as there is a problem with firing rockets and
throwing grenades as well as a bug where you shoot through a solid
object but they can be ignored due to the freedom it allows you to have
with research and engineering. This game is a definite improvement on
the graphics of the first game UFO:enemy unknown as well as having a
very free standing storyline that allows you to get those weapons you
want before a major attack on the alien hoard. So good luck commander
and mind out for all those Chrysalids. I give this game a 4.

SDHoneymonster -> Best Strategy Game On Consoles (8/3/2013 8:10:56 PM)

As a rule, I don't play strategy games - I'm absolutely useless at them, and tend to get frustrated with them long before I've got anywhere. XCOM, however, is brilliant; tough, but it gives you all the tools you need to succeed and makes sure you get comfortable with its mechanics. The juggling of base management and the tactical battles are thrilling and addictive - rushing to get satellites up over panicking countries, shaking with fear as you come up against a pack of angry Muton Berserkers in the field... it's a great mix of gameplay. It's also difficult; in a brave move, it's possible to fail the game and have to start over, and the battles themselves can sometimes feel unfair, with ridiculously accurate enemies and aiming glitches, but for the most part they flow beautifully. Play in Ironman mode if you want an extra challenge (although, if, like me, you're awful at strategy games, it's not recommended!)

Overall, a brilliant strategy game that will appeal to the hardcore as well as welcome in new fans. If I can complete it, trust me, you can too...
