This thread should be burnt, its just a Katy Perry shrine for vad3r to fap to.

vad3r -> RE: Katy Perry Appreciation Society (3/10/2012 2:47:23 PM)

Guys, for the third time. Can we please just keep things on topic. Katy Perry love goes in here. Everything else go elsewhere. It's not that hard, is it?

So, you want a seperate thread for Katy Perry discussion? This one, in your opinion, should be kept purely for positive Perry talk, and any critique, discussion, dislike or other Perry chat belongs in some other thread about her? Really? Hmmmm. I dont know about other posters, but wouldnt it be better if all Perry related chat and news (positive, negative, indifferent) was kept to a single fucking thread, rather than cluttering up the place with multiple threads about the same artist? And lets face it, if there is no discussion other than 'Ohhhh I love Perry, I do!", then this thread will die on its arse in minutes. Lets face it, it only managed to reach 6 pages due to the dsicussion about Brand (which you never responded to, by the way) and the constant lyric posting. A thread full of lyrics isn't going to get much activity from other forum members is it? Posting lyrics upon lyrics but not allowing people to discuss, critique, hate or praise the artist in question is fucking dumb in the extreme....

Ok, if you want to critique and hate on her, feel free. I for one will keep things positive and happy to balance the 99% negative.

Very good. Not going to respond to any of the specifics raised (by you) so far? No? Thought not.

I'm glad you enjoy the music, I really am. It's a shame you won't engage any one else in discussion on aspects they may find negative about her though. It's a shame you cant answer and support your ridiculous claims about her ex too. I always find the great things about music (and film and such) is the discussion. I like it, someone else doesnt and we have a discussion, be open to other opinions etc. It's fun. You never know, you may even change the opinion of others by engaging and discussing her talent, rather than just endlessly posting reproductions of her lyrics and pictures of her and her tits with creepy comments about breast feeding. But no, as you were.....

I don't mind discussing it all day everyday. What I won't respond to is aggressiveness and pointless, excess swearing. There's just no need for it. If you're willing to calm down and be more polite, I'd be more than happy to engage in your discussion.

He isn't swearing excessively. Yes but posting constant pictures and a lyrics doesn't make a thread good. It makes it pointless and annoying.

You won't reply to any discussion you've been asked several questions some of which I've reposted for you but you won't reply. You'd rather make creepy comments, post pictures and lyrics then call everyone else mean for not playing along with you.

Still doesn't make it excessive.
Yes you're allowed to, same as we are allowed to comment that it's annoying.
Not my questions but here are the first lot.

See Vad3r, I can accept that Hot or Cold is a pretty good pop song. However, it doesn't really have good lyrics does it? I'm reading that you just posted and it's pretty terrible, it's only when added to the catchy tune and with Perry's vocals that it becomes a decent example of bubblegum pop bollocks. So, I have to ask, do you generally listen (or read) any of these lyrics and think 'yea, that's really good writing'? And you gain something from those words? Cos for me, it's in and out, it has no real meaning and no real weight, it's just pop lyrics and it's a catchy tune, I cant see how anyone would gain anything from them other than as a decent pop song to sing along to. So, what do you get from the reproduction of song lyrics in so many posts? Or what do you hope others to get from it? Or is it just, as I suspect, a big fucking wind up?

What prof do you have that Russell Brand used Katy Perry I believe was the other big one.
You don't think posting lots & lots of pictures of attractive females then posting lyrics under them can be considered creepy?
He wasn't being mean at all, he was challenging you. Huge difference.

Me too. The way she sings that bit live is filled with emotion.

This is my favourite live performance of hers:

My favourite moment is when as soon as she starts singing that bit, the camera zooms to Paris Hilton. She nods quietly and you can see her eyes thinking ''I wish I had talent like that''.

Another question was how exactly did Brand benefit from shacking up with her? It makes no sense at all as he was already making waves in Hollywood and had already begun production on Get Him To The Greek, which I guess is his first lead role. Vad3r suggested that his relationship with her somehow opened the floodgates of movie roles, which ones? Hop? Arthur? The Tempest?

Back to the music for a moment, and this is something not specific to Perry.... and it annoys me fucking greatly....

But, when I was into buying singles and albums each week back in my youth, it seemed to be a general rule of thumb that an artist would release four tracks (maybe five at a push) from an album. However, now, it seems like the likes of Perry, Rihanna, Gaga etc have a single out every other week. Are they all album tracks? Whats the deal with this, cos it seems like fucking overkill. New albums every other year and fuck knows how many singles between em.

No doubt she puts as much emotion in as she can in, but when the lyric is 'Boob, boom, boom....even brighter than the moon, moon, moon', I just cant imagine many people getting much out of it, other than the catchy tune. A tune that, in my opinion dies on its arse during it's verse and only really works during it's bridge and chorus. As a pop song its perfectly servicable and I wont turn off as it comes on the radio, but its not the kind of thing that I can say makes any kind of emotional connection. Incidently, shortly after skipping Firework, Kate Bush came on and I kept that fucker playing to the very end.

Isn't it because that they rely so much on their appearance, given the music is generic to say the least, to connect with audiences they need as many videos as possible?

- Of course not. If it was pictures of barely clothed women, I'd understand. But I'm not into that sort of thing. I post pictures of talented artists who I respect and put some nice lyrics underneath it. I'd imagine they'd find it sweet that a fan would do that instead of mailing them their dirty boxers.
- I found it a bit aggressive and definitely consisting of excess swearing.

Isn't it because that they rely so much on their appearance, given the music is generic to say the least, to connect with audiences they need as many videos as possible?

I suppose that makes sense, but are music videos such a big thing these days? Other than music channels do videos get much air time on mainstream channels? I genuinely dont know. Years ago I could tell you what new music videos were around and what they were about, what happened in the, even for artists I had no interest in, videos just seemed to be around a lot on tv. Now though, I'm not so sure they are, other than high profile ones (I'm thinking Gaga here). Do people watch music videos online these days? Fucks sake this is making me sound like a really old fucking duffer......

Amusingly, Firework on came on my iPod. I skipped it.

That's a shame. It's one of my favourite pop songs.

Boom, boom, boom..... even brighter than the moon, moon, moon.

One of my favourite dumb lyrics of all time. I genuinly love that. It's true. Ask the missus.

Me too. The way she sings that bit live is filled with emotion.

This is my favourite live performance of hers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlHLxBe5WVE

My favourite moment is when as soon as she starts singing that bit, the camera zooms to Paris Hilton. She nods quietly and you can see her eyes thinking ''I wish I had talent like that''.

Alright now I know you're just winding me up now. Paris Hilton may be a vapid famous for nothing air head. But I doubt she ever though that..ever.

That's your opinion. If you actually watched the video you'll know what I mean. And please, no comments like 'you're winding me up now'. If you don't like me, feel free to block me. I encourage it as it prevents needless abuse like that. I don't try to wind up anyone and can't believe you get wound up by me saying Paris Hilton wished he had Katy Perry's talent. Please keep things civil and polite, I always do.

Probably to keep a strong presence on YouTube etc I'd imagine.

- Well he swore more times in any post than I have in my entirety on this forum.
- I never said posting pictures and lyrics makes a thread good. I said this is an appreciation thread, I like posting pictures and lyrics, and I'm allowed to do so of her in here. There was no smut posted, I'm not a fan of pervy pictures. I like amusing or cute ones.
- If you wouldn't mind reposting your questions, I wouldn't mind answering them.
- I didn't make any creepy comments. I made one intended creepy joke.
- I didn't call everyone mean. I called one person mean, because he was being mean.

- What prof do you have that Russell Brand used Katy Perry I believe was the other big one.
- You don't think posting lots & lots of pictures of attractive females then posting lyrics under them can be considered creepy?
- He wasn't being mean at all, he was challenging you. Huge difference.

No it's not a widely held opinion of all the people posting in this thread you are the only one with this view. People who've read his book disagree, looking at his career arch disproves it. I have a pretty high IQ and it never occurred to me. It looked like two people who feel in love but due to the age difference, busy careers and differences in lifestyles (Katy still wanting to party and Russell obviously not wanting that around him). That they couldn't or wouldn't make it work. As I've said I've seen Russell Brand in his private life shopping, grabbing a coffee etc and he always comes across as a lovely bloke.

I'm a female and I find it creepy.

You may have found it that way and if it's a huge problem for you flag it up to the mods. Swearing isn't a breech of the T&C's we all agree to when we sign up here.

You still didn't answer the questions in bold.

I did ask you to support the claim it was a common opinion that he somehow used her to further his career. I even did a quick google search and the three main reasons for the split that came back (from celeb gossip rags, I must point out) were that she cheated on him, her parents dissapproved of Brands history as a drug addict and that she did not want a family at the same time he did. So again, support your claim that there is a common opinion that Brand used Perry in some way. I dont think you can, cos I dont beleive there is a common opinion that Brand used her. How do you 'figure out' someones motives for a relationship, marriage and split without any knowledge of it? Brand may be the biggest cunt in history, he may have used her and abused her every which way, he could have been a total wanker, used her for fame and ditched her in the most callous way imaginable. However, I cant say this cos I have nothing to back it up. Nothing I can find suggests anything of the sort. I asked you before to clarify how Brand used it to get Hollywood movie offers to roll in (thats what you claimed!) and you couldnt. I pointed out how Brand was already established in Hollywood and that his biggest role came about before the relationship (see, thats a fact I used, not some bullshit in my head), that his roles during were not as a result of his relathionship as there was no evidence for it. If anything, his role in Arthur was more directly linked to his past and his profile as a drink/drugs addict. So again, it appears it does take a genius to figure it out, cos I cant for the life of me find anything to suggest their relationship was anything other than genuine for the both of them.

I think the whole song is a good example of pop song writing. Don't forget that it's challenging to write a song that is upbeat, sad, danceable and emotional all at the same time.
But I agree that her voice and music elevate average lyrics.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards,
One blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there's still a chance for you
'Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colours burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in "awe, awe, awe"

You don't have to feel like a wasted space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

'Cause baby you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colours burst
Make 'em go "Oh, Oh, Oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in "awe, awe, awe"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through-ough-ough

I'm amazed you haven't blocked me yet. Every now and again I post something you come in, make a smart-arse comment that doesn't do anything apart from attempt to provoke me, then leave. Take a cue from rawlison, he did what you're trying to do, then came to his senses and blocked me. It's a shame you haven't come to the same conclusion. Don't like = block. Not don't like = provoke.
