[:D]

That was beautiful. Stuck on the last 5 minutes. The coupon on Lennon was highly amusing.

Great to see Essien bursting into the box and scoring . Few things would please me as much as to see him back to the form he had 3 or 4 years ago.

I scratched my head at that deal of him going off to Madrid but he's settled in well.

Interesting to see that Solskjaer has taken Molde to their second Norwegian championship in 2 years. I know he's turned down a few PL clubs already, but he's got to be thinking about stepping up a level now.

Next season for sure I'd say.

Messi eclipses Pele's calendar year goals record, which I'm sure will please the modest Brazillian! [:D]

Seven games left to get 10 goals and beat Gerd Muller's record of 85

MOTH -> RE: European football (19/11/2012 4:37:45 PM)

well the two at the weekend were just lovely. why blast it when you can slide rule pass it in?

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (20/11/2012 10:22:28 PM)

MOTH -> RE: European football (21/11/2012 9:28:29 AM)

Mexes goal last night was nice though.

They have few redeeming features, it's true. Just watching the report on the news, it's fucking barbaric what they did.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. LOL-some. [:D]

So, Jose is going to be looking for a new job come the summer. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/03/jose-mourinho-real-madri-spain

I thought the City challenge was ideal for him until they got in the Barca staff. Think I heard something the other week about Fergie saying he'd be the man to take over at ManU. And I guess you can never rule out a return to Chelsea. Pretty sure it will be the Pl, whatever. He's said several times he wants to come back.

Saltire -> RE: European football (4/12/2012 6:38:06 AM)

I think Man Utd could be a real option, especially if Fergie wins the title this year to go out on a nice round number of 20 titles?

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (4/12/2012 4:45:11 PM)

Unbelievably saddening news http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/dec/04/dutch-linesman-death-manslaughter-charges

In other news.. let the frenzy of speculation begin (oh it began months ago, already did it?) http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/04/fernando-llorente-leave-athletic-bilbao

If he doesn't go to Juve, I'll eat my hat. (bookmarks page, buys spare hat)

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (4/12/2012 5:01:45 PM)

Put some ketchup on your hat. Why would Juve need more than this man. Who I'm sure for a fee just short of a Ronaldo or Ibrahimovich they can get

You don't understand. He's going to come home and return our once-proud club to glory. ;__;

Saltire -> RE: European football (5/12/2012 12:33:52 AM)

Llorente will be a success wherever he'll go, he's a wonderfully gifted played.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/06/euro-2020-across-europe-uefa

Good idea? Madness? Both? (I kind of feel like it could work, and it would be pretty brilliant if it did, but still. pretty crazy.)

directorscut -> RE: European football (6/12/2012 10:04:23 PM)

Stupid idea, but not as stupid as trying to expand the CL to 64 spots.

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (7/12/2012 10:09:54 AM)

I haven't bothered to read the details on this. I personally think that the expansion from 16 to 24 teams is a much bigger mistake, going from a tight tournament where each game is important to a sprawling mass where there will be more unequal draws.

Maybe they should just go the whole hog and run it like the CL. So there are home and away group games. Then home and away play-offs. Then a final at a pre-designated place.

As a TV viewer I can't imagine the change will hugely affect my watching of the games. It is sad that the crowd passions of a good tournament host will be lost, but with an increasing number of games, probably with an increasing number of corporate tickets that aren't taken up, would mean they'd find it harder to sell out all the games in one country. So the writing was maybe on the wall for that anyway.

MOTH -> RE: European football (10/12/2012 10:09:32 AM)

Ah! Messi! Or should that be Messi-ah!

Another couple of corkers last night to break Muller's record.

Olaf -> RE: European football (10/12/2012 10:23:59 AM)

Iniesta has actually been better this year (also the best player at the Euros along with Pirlo). Shame there's absolutely no chance of him winning the Ballon d'Or though.

yeah, he's been great - his ability to buy space with a drop of the shoulder is a thing of beauty. I think even Messi would like him to get the Ballon d'Or.

Messi, so blessed with talent and so willing to give kudos to others. When I think of Ronaldo, Zlatan and Bendtner, it is surely this facet which binds them all [:D]

He's still got a couple of games left this season hasn't he. Are they playing Deportivo again? I see that Falcao filled his boots against them at the weekend.

heh heh. Next week should actually be tasty enough - Barca play Atletico Madrid and Barca's defence are bound to cough up a few chance for Falcao.

Iniesta is my absolute favourite player, I love that wee lad! He is in top form once more this year after playing fairly poorly domestically last season though he played fantastically at the Euro's.

Great to see Messi break/equal Muller's record (there's still that issue with the dubious goal a fortnight ago till he scores another to finally put that to bed); I don't think his dribbling is as good this season as it was, and he isn't chipping the balls as much, but his finishing if anything has become even more clinical this year, he is phenomenal!
