Bayern never got out of first gear, but tbh, they didn't really have to.

Qwerty Norris -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 6:31:43 PM)

Urgh, that small slice of humble pie tasted foul. Thank christ I was spared a large portion. [:-]

I have my doubts whether it would have turned out like that had the first leg not been so decisive, but still.....[&:]

Strong last 8 though. My gut tells me Juve will win this, but naturally I'm backing Dortmund.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 7:36:46 PM)

Inter 3-0 Spurs (3-3 ag)

Hmm.

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 7:37:50 PM)

Completely happy with that given that AVB was so proud of Bale to get booked and miss this leg.

Without wanting this post to just be a +1, Plus mother-clucking 1!

It was arrogance from Villas-Boas to say that, he was essentially saying 'the ties won and we'll still have our best player in the next round' completely ignoring the fact that they still had to go to Milan.

Mind it does make it easier on the eye when almost every Spurs fan I know was rubbing it in when Modric scored against United.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:06:53 PM)

ooohh 3-1 (3-4 ag)

Adebayor

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:07:16 PM)

Away goals count double in extra time?

(That'll be Adebayor's contribution for the remainder of the season then [:D])

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:08:12 PM)

Come on Newcastle!

I've become a passive fan of theirs. That's sure to put the mockers on them [;)]

matty_b -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:10:11 PM)

Yeah, away goals still count in extra time. There can't be penalties and Inter need two.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:10:33 PM)

I don't know what i'm more shocked about Adebayor scoring or me spelling his name correctly.

I find that a silly rule tbh

matty_b -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:17:18 PM)

In general, or just for extra time?

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:23:09 PM)

Hmmm good question.

Definitely in extra time. There is just not enough time then for another team to score 2 its a huge imbalance and imo a greater imbalance than being home or away (that's the luck of the draw / seeding).
And overall each team plays home and away, that's a level playing field. We;ve also seen how it has influenced tactics in the last decade. More teams are now playing defensively at home to not concede the away goal.

matty_b -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:27:03 PM)

It would be interesting to see if ties became more open, if they did scrap it.

As you say, it is ultimately an even playing field.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:27:03 PM)

4-1 Inter
ooh

directorscut -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:39:08 PM)

And here I am watching the Chelsea match. [sm=34.gif]

Professor Moriarty -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:40:45 PM)

No shame watching that. Always a chance Gigi Becali will go barking mad and bring himself on or something.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 8:42:30 PM)

BBC live-text:Toby: "So what Adebayor just did is a yellow, but what Nani did is a red?"

I think if this guy saw last nights incidents (porto vs Malaga and Bayern vs Arsenal) then I reckon his head would explode.
Consistency in refereeing is just not going to happen whether its Europe or otherwise.

All about the ratings unfortunately.
Chelsea were always going to win tonight imo,much preferred watching Newcastle vs Anzi.Atleast it'll be a more tighter affair/game.

erasheha1985 -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:03:49 PM)

Watched some of Inter - Spurs match. Scott Parker really is a terrible football player. At least tonight anyway, shocking performance from him.

But he tries his best and he can run around for aaaages.
England would be a far better footballing team if we had more Milners and Parkers about.[;)]

Skiba -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:21:58 PM)

THat's class from Terry...lost his marker with ease there.

Don't see why we've gone back to playing Luiz at the back when for 5 or 6 games in midfield he was brilliant...Cahill/Terry should be the partnership. And how many times has Mikel shot tonight??? The man who hasn't scored since he was 12 or something!

directorscut -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:32:32 PM)

Torres = Chelsea Legend.

Skiba -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:34:02 PM)

He score when he wants...

How was that not a pen???

EDIT: maybe not...[:D]

directorscut -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:48:29 PM)

Torres taking penalty lessons from JT? [:D]

Skiba -> RE: European football (14/3/2013 9:49:24 PM)

Sums up his Chelsea career tonight

I've heard that phrase a fair few times over the past two years.

He played pretty well all in all though. I did shake my head though at that pen miss lol!

Some cracking games in the EL yet again.
