Cool Breeze -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (29/9/2012 12:59:40 PM)

And so it begins, first dvd buyers are shafted in favor of blu ray and now regular blu ray buyers are shafted in favor of pushing this 3D nonsense on the home cinema market.

Best way to fight this is to boycott 3D blu ray versions of films like Prometheus in favor of the regular blu ray and dvd.Ok so you might miss out on a few extra features but its the film thats the most important thing when buying a film right?

When Dredd comes out on blu it had damn well better not have that 3D version on it.I dont care if the 3D version has tons of extras and the normal blu ray is bare bones.I just want to watch the film without havng to wear silly specs.

There is no extended cut, and there will be no extended cut.

Ridley was mis-quoted about an extended cut. What he was that there were about 30 mins of deleated scenes that he would put on the disk "in a seperate section". People missed that last bit and started writing that a longer cut would be released.

There won't - the movie is getting the full bells and whistles treatment now. If there were a DC coming out do you think they would have added in all these extras now?

This is it - there is no longer cut. But I am sure someone will take those 30 mins of extra scenes and insert them into a fan edit.

Is it still ok for me to think there might be? Christ.

And yet ironically, the Kingdom of Heaven Blu Ray is just the movie with all of the extras missing!! It's one of my favourite Scott movies, so is very frustrating.

Really, no commentary or anything? That makes no sense whatsoever! KOH was one of the first films I got as a R1 import - along with the Sin City Recut, Extended and Unrated Edition - because that was a time when I really became aware of just how badly the UK was getting shafted on DVD special features (some things never change, eh?). I really wanted the 4-disc special extended edition and it's one of the best purchases I ever made - a decent film became superb, and the 'making-of' stuff spread over 2 discs was just mindblowing.

Back on topic - I think the question in the title of this thread has been well and truly answered now! It's pretty much 'NO'!

Oh excuse me for writing then. Forget it.

The KoH thing was really annoying - no idea why that stuff isn't on the Blu Ray. One day hopefully!

Rgirvan44 -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (29/9/2012 6:18:41 PM)

Of course we still don't know what the 11.10.12 thing is yet. If it is an extended cut I will apologise to each of you - but I am 99.9% confident that this is it.

AxlReznor -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (29/9/2012 6:51:39 PM)

Pretty annoyed that to get all of the extra features you have to buy the 3D version. Not everyone can afford to upgrade every time they bring something new out, and even those that can, the ones that have sense wouldn't waste their money on a fad that's going to leave their TV/blu ray player obsolete as soon as it goes away.

Scruffybobby -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (29/9/2012 9:13:32 PM)

Like others I find it pretty fucking annoying that you have to the buy the 3D version to get the full set of extras. Nonetheless I've ordered that one because I manged to find it reasonably cheap (£17.99 online from Sainsbury's. Still that means that I'll have one disc in the set that's no  use to me.

You know 3D tvs and blu ray players play content in 2D as well right? [&:]

All the features are on the 2D discs, though, including the commentaries. You don't need to use the 3D disc, I've never used the one in my Thor set. It does cost more, which I admit sucks.

So why are a bunch of the features only available if you buy the 3D version. There's no making of documentary on the 2D version, nor the "enhancement pods" (whatever they are), or the Weyland Corp archives. All of the things that I'd actually be interested in. Don't give two shits about the commentaries, to be honest... can't stand them.

The 3D version will have 3 discs, the film in 3D , the film in 2D with the extras and another extras disc. I only mentioned the commentaries as an example of what won't be on the 3D disc. If they aren't even going to put extra audio tracks onto the 3D disc, then that's a good sign. I can only assume they'll be doing it this way to guarantee extra sales of the 3D discs.

The 3D disc looks as though it is basically a bonus disc in its own set.....

porntrooper -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 9:27:38 AM)

Why are people acting like this is a new development by film companies to push new formats? When DVD was introduced alongside VHS, VHS releases had no extras. DVD's generally had two releases, a bare bones release and a special edition 2 disc set. It wasnt uncommon. That model is now shifting to new formats. DVD with little extras, Blu-Ray's with reduced extras and the Blu Ray Special Editions, in this case the 3D version. I dont see this as owt new at all. Plus, many people are forgetting something, this film was shot in 3D. The intended version is 3D. The 3D in Prometheus was pretty fuckin stunning. If you have the capability for home 3D, or if you may upgrade i future, why wouldnt you buy it in that format? If you have no intention of having 3D, bite the bullet and wath the extras when they eventually appear on yourube

AxlReznor -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 9:43:22 AM)

I don't know why people are acting like "pushing a new format" is an acceptable reason for ripping off consumers. Especially because Blu Ray isn't even an old format... or indeed had the chance to become the dominant format. Or why they think watching something on Youtube is a suitable alternative to owning it.

I'm not objecting to the 3D version existing as some seem to be suggesting. I'm objecting to the 3D version having features that the 2D version doesn't, that don't even require 3D to play.

porntrooper -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 10:06:12 AM)

But having two Blu Ray releases - one with features and one without - is no different to how DVD was introduced back in the day. When DVD was the new format, it was usually given a tandard and special edition release, this is no different. If you want to own the special features, buy the special edition with them alll, you still gt the movie in 2D Blu Ray, with the added bonus of the directors intended 3D version included should you choose to upgrade in future. And lets face it, anyone wanting to buy a new tv in the next few years will likely have 3D capability. This release model is not new, pushin a new format buy restricting extras to that new format is not new, charging more for extras on special editions is not new. Charging extra for extra content is not a rip off.

jackcarter -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 10:23:49 AM)

if standard BR is getting shafted abit on this one then the DVD is getting bound gagged tortured and then buried alive

would it have killed then to at least grant the dvd the whole 30m deleted scenes...maybe a couple of docs too? jeeze

why not just sell the DVDs with the box and no disc while their at it.

glaive -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 3:12:56 PM)

So...let me get this straight...the ONLY difference between the American 'Collector's Edition' and what WE get in Europe (if we get the '3-D Specia' Edition'), is the PHYSICAL DVD...ie, we get everything else?

paul.mccluskey -> RE: Think the Prometheus DVD will have the extras? (30/9/2012 3:21:27 PM)

Very disappointed. At least both the recent DVD and Blu-ray editions of James Cameron's Avatar had all the extras. Was really hoping for a good DVD package but we've been screwed over again. No doubt the deleted scenes will consist of about 2 sequences lasting a minute each.

It is about 30mins of deleated scenes.

Jaysus Christ people, Blu-ray has been out for six years now. Get with the times and stop moaning.

Anyone else order the play.com Steelbook? It doesn’t have the same extras listed as the cheaper 3D one on their site. Not usually too fussed about extras these days but I’d quite like them for Prometheus.

Do all versions have the alternative beginning and ending? I at least want those.

Yeah, but it's not exactly the cheapest way to watch a film during these tough economic times when people are trying to spend as little as possible.

You're safe with the steelbook mate, it has all the extras. I've got it on pre-order myself

Not that I'm aware of. If anyone was doing anything extra, it'd be Sainsburys, but not this time. (Their Robin Hood DVD - another Ridley Scott film, of course - had a bonus disc nobody else had, for example.) I believe that the DVD will come with deleted scenes, but not all of them. When the 'alternative beginning and ending' are included, the full set of deleted scenes totals about 37mins, but I heard that maybe only 10mins will be included on the DVD. Don't quote me on that though.

I've seen the deleted and extended scenes, but won't spoil anything. I like Prometheus as a film - I think it's good, enjoyable, thought-provoking, but not a great film overall. (With the exceptions of Fassbender, Theron and possibly Elba, I think the acting is poor as well.) My personal opinion is that there's very little in the deleted material that would make the theatrical version notably 'better'. Like most deleted scenes, the material was cut for a reason, and I can see why the Prometheus stuff was jettisoned. Consider Kingdom Of Heaven - IMO a superb film was salvaged from the material omitted from an adequate and compromised theatrical cut. I don't think the same can be said for Prometheus though, especially as Scott did appear to release something he was truly happy with this time. The best I can say is that Prometheus sets the groundwork for more potentially interesting sidetrips through the foundations of the Alien universe. However, I personally don't believe that there's a great film lurking in the deleted material. There is one scene between Idris Elba and Charlize Theron that NEVER should've been cut though!

Someone a few weeks back was able to get their hands on the DVD version and uploaded the DVD deleted scenes on dailymotion. There were only about four or five scenes.

- Discovering the snake skin
- Alternative scene involving Welyand
- Alternative sex scene
- Pilot talking about his military experience

There might be another but overall the extras are extremely light.
