I think I remember reading somewhere in an interview from Michael Caine or perhaps it might have been Nolan himself where they said Nolan doesn't like showing everything to do with the making of the film. He prefers to not have the magic of the movie spoilt by knowing exactly how every effect was pulled off so i think that might be why there's very little extras on his dvd's

Well unfortunately for Mr. Nolan and Mr. Caine, this is the year 2012. There is no more 'magic of movie making'. Customers are used to having big blu rays and DVDs filled with lots of content such as commentaries, gag reels, interviews, a long making of, multiple mini docs etc and feel all big releases should make an effort to contain them.

UTB -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (19/9/2012 7:13:25 PM)

I'd rather pay less and just have the film, thanks.

OPEN YOUR EYES -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (19/9/2012 7:23:28 PM)

I would like a 'making of Doc',because I find them of great interest but I cant get my head around in-film commentaries.
How can you watch a film with the director or cast members talking over it?[&:]

Because you're a fan who's already watched it multiple times, and would like to hear the man who made it, along with the main actors, discuss the film whilst watching it with you?

Sounds fun and interesting to me.

TDK had the most disappointing selection of extras for an anticipated blu ray ever. A whole bunch of nothing, unworthy of even a YouTube video.

Nolan is really a tight bastard when it comes to extras. He needs to learn a thing or two from Kevin Smith, Fincher, Whedon, R. Scott, Cameron or Jackson in that regard. They always flood their blu rays and DVDs with everything.

Nolans Batman films on blu had plenty of making of featuretes and docs about the making of the films so I dont see how he can be seen as a " tight bastard " which is a very insulting thing to say about the man who has given us the best superhero trilogy ever.

The guy doesn't do commentaries so what? That's his preference and the docs tell us tons about the making of the film so I don't see the problem here.

What ''docs and featuretes'' are these exactly? I own both of them on blu ray and should report them as fakes because I don't see any on there.

What versions did you buy? On my Batman Begins Blu there are featurettes on everything from the stunts, design of the batsuits,Christian Bales fight training, the Batmobile, files on Batmans equipment, location filming,Tankman Begins spoof (etc).

The Dark Knight blu has pip mode which focuses on different aspects of the production and on disc two there is a great 45 min doc on how Batmans gadgets and and another which is an in universe news interview with Harvey Dent set shortly before the film begins along trailers,tv spots, artwork.I dont see much else that i could possibly want as the main reason fro buying the thing is the film.

Frankly youre just being a greedy '' bastard '' vad3r. [;)]

the book editions nice but already have ir. I think it may be a shrunk down one to fit in the digipack

You don't put the commentary on to watch the film, you do so to listen to the commentary. And you only listen to commentaries of films you have already seen. Commentaries can like making of docs but they often talk about making the film as it plays and talk about what is happening on the screen. They're not always interesting but given the right participants they can be good fun. [:)]

And in the case of the DVD commentary for Outlaw, unintentionally funny and completely deluded.

The commentary for Conan the Barbarian with Arnie and John Milius is the stuff of legend.

Is it anything like the Total Recall one where Arnold describes each scene as if it's the single greatest piece of acting of all time?

It is exactly like that. and also like that comm, he basically just describes each scene......

Commentaries like that are good for a laugh at first but the novelty wears off pretty soon.

doubtlesswonder -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (27/9/2012 8:12:07 PM)

HMV brought out a nice steelbook set with the first two films on before DKR hit cinemas, so if they do one of all three films that would be nice. However, I'm getting frustrated with HMV these days because the site never lists the extras that are on the discs.

The best commentaries I've ever listened to are the ones on The Simpsons dvd box sets. Cloudy with Bill Hader was also a great fanboy experience.

Warners officially announces the trilogy boxset

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/172923-warner-bros-announces-dark-knight-trilogy-blu-ray-set

but, also say that a 'The Dark Knight Trilogy Ultimate Collector's Edition' will be released in 2013. Now...this is gonna be a problem. I was hoping to buy the trilogy boxset even though i own begins and dark knight on blu ray because the cover for rises is a bit shit. Figured I would own the trilogy and that would be it but this ultimate collectors edition sounds like it's going to be the proper trilogy release maybe with a whole lot more behind the scenes stuff and general special features and maybe new transfers of the films? If it was that then i'd think about just getting rises by itself to get me by until the collectors edition comes out and i'll buy that. However, if the 'collectors edition' is just the regular boxset with a statue or something like that alongside it...I don't really care about that tbh and would just but the trilogy that's out this year.

giggity -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (30/9/2012 6:46:54 PM)

HMV's exclusive steelbook looks good. If I just buy the film by itself i'd probably go for that http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;0;-1;-1;-1&sku=773350

I'm happy with DVD, but I'll probably have to buy a few of the Hammer Double-Play editions as they won't release stand-alone DVD versions of the films.

OK [;)]

doubtlesswonder -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (2/10/2012 7:05:08 PM)

The steelbook on hMV does look good but- as usual- there's no info about what's on it in terms of extras. Besides, I don't have the other two films in steelbook so I'll probably skip this one.

The boxset on Amazon does look pretty decent with a great set of extras, so I might get that. The dilemma comes with figuring out where to put it on my alphabetically organised shelf. [:D]

Cool Breeze -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (8/10/2012 3:17:18 PM)

Any word on whether the picture format is going to change constantly during the feature on the dvd/blu like it did for TDK?

I know Nolan shot most of this in IMAX but since i dont have an IMAX theatre in my home[;)] i woukd prefer if the picture format stays the same while im watching the film on my blu ray?

the 'batman begins' BD is way better than the dvd.
what was a 2 disc dvd is now a single BD with the movie and bonus content together.

it has a more accessibe menu than the arkward dvd 'comic book' menu on disc 2 and has a brilliant in movie commentary which is the closest you will get to a nolan yak track.

Cool Breeze -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (14/10/2012 1:36:03 PM)

Just to reiterate. Will the picture format change from Imax footage and back during the featrure on the BD?

rich -> RE: The Dark Knight Rises blu ray (14/10/2012 1:41:19 PM)

Since it does that on TDK, probably. I don't see why not.

Youd think Nolan would have shot those scenes again for normal blu ray viewing since most of us dont have IMAX theatres in our homes.

Why do that? Sure we don't have IMAX screens, but when the aspect ratio opens up on the TDK Blu Ray it looks stunning, so I'm expecting the IMAX scenes in TDKR to have the adjusted aspect ratio too, and I suspect they will look great too. Having the aspect ratio open up on the Blu allows the home viewing include the whole image, even if the size of the screen cant compare.
