Hook.

NCC1701A -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 9:43:41 AM)

War of the Worlds.

Funnily enough E.T is Spielberg's favourite. I find all his stuff wachable but the worst would be:

Munich: Fantastic moments but quite udll for sections.

but obviously...

Indy 4: I really regard it as a Lucas film as he had all the ideas...but Spielberg directed ...

Hook.

Yep.

The only one of his films I don't like.

Same here. His other mis-fires are flawed but still watchable; Indy 4 works up to the end, as does War of the Worlds, Always is schmaltzy but endearing, The Lost World suffers by comparison to its predecessor but just manages an 'ok' and 1941 is like watching children break someone else's things: awful but compelling.
Hook, however, will never be graced by my eyes again.

NCC1701A -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 10:53:34 AM)

I will stand up for Hook I do enjoy it a lot. however I know it a film that most people don't like.

st3veebee -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 10:54:04 AM)

Am I the only one who has a soft spot for Hook? The children are bloody awful and annoying (odd in a Spielberg film) but I think Williams is solid and the duo of Hoffman and Hoskins is great fun. I also just like saying Smee..

Dr Lenera -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 11:32:09 AM)

Am quite fond of Hook, despite having a few missteps. Though I think Spielberg should have just adapted Peter Pan instead of doing a sequel.

Worst film? For me it's probably Indy 4, though to be honest Sugarland Express and Catch Me If You Can didn't do much of me really. I can never decide about E.T.; sometimes I dislike it, sometimes I quite like it

Sugarland Express

Blimey, I'd forgotten that was a Spielberg film!

For me though, Always is a film I've never liked, too sickly sentimental for my tastes. And the selective memory of Munich grates so much with me that I can't really appreciate the good things about it.

goldleader -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 1:07:50 PM)

All you people have lost your minds. Even below average Spielberg is a hundred times better than most films released.

Never understand the hate for Hook, yes it isn't a masterpiece but as a kids adventure/pirate movie its great fun. Beats the socks off the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels any day.

For me the weakest films have to be Indy 4 and Munich.

Indy 4 is just a little too much Lucas and i wish they had just left it alone, i think they were all a little to old to do it not just Ford. It has its moments but in the end they could never come up with a good enough story or totally different action.

And Munich i just find really boring, although i might have to watch it again because it has been many years since i have seen it.

Every other Spielberg film i can put on any day any time and enjoy or even love them.

Spaldron -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 2:55:03 PM)

Always - was advertised as a slightly goofy comedy/drama, is actually a soppy snoozefest.

The Terminal - like above, a soppy snoozefest.

Indy 4 - make it stop!

1941 - just all over the place.

Shifty Bench -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 4:12:40 PM)

I don't think I hate any Spielberg films. I'm not a huge fan of Hook, ET, The Lost World, Temple Of Doom, Crystal Skull, The Terminal or Amistad but I just fairly dislike them rather than outright hate them.

Cool Breeze -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (19/6/2012 11:09:39 PM)

Speilberg has made quite a few stinkers really..

Hook- Absolute rubbish.

The Lost World - One of the worst sequels ever made.

Amistad- I cant remember anything about this film other than it was boring.

Indy 4- Colossal dissapointment.

The Terminal- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Dirk Miggler -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (20/6/2012 12:07:58 AM)

Really, No love for Hook ?

The Terminal by a mile.

rich -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (20/6/2012 1:06:54 AM)

Nah I can vouch for Hook.

Indy 4 - absolute piece of shite, on every level.

War of the Worlds.

I will add ET (Sorry just don't like it) and Minority Report to the list. Not seen 1941 or Catch me if you can (Tried to watch it once and got bored).

DazDaMan -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (20/6/2012 10:59:59 PM)

Hmm...

Didn't much like Hook, War of the Worlds, A.I. or the 2002 cut of E.T. - hated all the additional footage and the CGI walkie-talkies....!

Zaphod121 -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (21/6/2012 1:34:58 AM)

I'd say JP: The Lost World though I haven't seen a few of his like Catch Me If You Can of The Terminal, and I don't mind Indy 4... [8|]

Did not like Indy 4 that much when I first watched it but it has grown on me still not  has good as the first three.

great_badir -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (21/6/2012 1:40:26 PM)

He's made plenty of poor films, but the only ones I absolutely cannot sit through are E.T. (its sick-making uber-schmaltz just makes me want to hurt people) and Indy 4.

Speaking of which, I watched Tin Tin at the weekend (not as bad as I was expecting it to be) and at several points in the film got the feeling it was a bit of an apology for Indy 4.

I think Munich is his most mature and consistent film for years.

shool -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (21/6/2012 2:25:45 PM)

1941 for me.

I have a soft spot for Hook and I thought the terminal was ok though. 1941 is all over the place though, followed closely by Indy 4

Sutty -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (24/6/2012 6:57:43 PM)

Indy 4. Awful casting (aside from Harrison Ford). Ray Winstone and Shia LeBoeuf are dreadful. Set pieces that are massive let downs, from the opening with its saved by fridge and ropey whip swinging effects that has indy looking like he is defying gravity, to the race through the jungle and the pathetic Alien ending. Even now I can;t remember its full clumsy title properly. Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls? And the thought of having Lebeouf taking up the indy mantle is dreadful. I think having Arnold play Louis Armstrong in a bio pic of his life would make more sense!!

Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.

Worst thing about Indy 4? The CGI Indy shadow when he gets out the boot (sorry, trunk) of the car near the beginning.

I mean why? Why a CGI shadow?!?!?!?

It's baffling.

DazDaMan -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (24/6/2012 10:13:25 PM)

That was CGI? The fuck?!

Watch it again (don't worry - you only need to watch any of the official trailers, not the whole film) - it's even obvious on a 17" laptop screen.

There was a huge uproar about it when the first teaser was released which prompted Spielberg to say "don't worry, 'only' around 30% of the film's effects are CG".

Looked a hell of a lot more than 30% to me though, and most of it was bad.

DazDaMan -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (24/6/2012 11:25:00 PM)

Bloody hell, I never noticed that! [&:]

Spectator of Suicide -> RE: worst spielberg movie? (25/6/2012 1:00:48 PM)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones 4.
