Vadersville -> Canon 600D (15/6/2012 6:25:46 PM)

Looking to get myself a fairly decent DSLR for shooting HD. I've heard a few good things from mates about the Canon 600D. Can anyone else confirm / expand this or recommend something else? My price range is around 500-600.

Canon are pretty good cameras and a lot better than the camcorders around the same price range. Only reservation would be audio recording but then for 600 you can't really go wrong.

If it's a DSLR that your going for i would go for the 650D as it has auto focus.

You can get microphones which attach to the hotshoe although that is an additional price..

I am more of a photography rather than video person but having read a few reviews it appears the video capapcity of the 600D has not been significantly improved from the 500D.

If audio is really important you would probably be better investing in a portable hard disc recorder. Zoom do some pretty cheap ones and the quality is great

So I got myself a very nice Canon 600D. I was going to go for the 550D as most people told me the little upgrades between the two didn't justify the price difference but bizzarely I was able to find the 600D 9.99 cheaper than the 550D and only 390.99 body only. Now I need to get myself some lenses. I've heard a little about using old SLR lenses which can be bought quite cheaply on ebay and the alike and using an adapter but have alos heard bad stuff about fungus, dust and scratches etc. My new question is, as someone who is looking to use this camera for stuff like short films, corporate videos, music video production, what are some decent, reasonably priced lenses that I should be looking at?
