Empire Admin -> Sequel Baiting Endings That Didn't Work (6/6/2012 4:21:15 PM)

Post your comments on this article

StewieGriffin -> (6/6/2012 4:21:15 PM)

Two more to add to the list; the Golden Compass and The Last Airbender.

Both fully justified in not having sequels.

MuckyMuckMan -> (6/6/2012 4:34:54 PM)

Golden Compass should definately be in there and I disagree with previous post. I really enjoyed it. I beg the question will we get a Prometheus sequel?

charliepanayi -> (6/6/2012 5:19:29 PM)

Godzilla and Lost in Space are both candidates for this category too - thankfully neither got their sequel. The summer of 1998 really was rotten for films.

Hywel -> Avengers sequel (6/6/2012 5:26:21 PM)

Featuring Hellboy? Yes please!

Psycho Savager -> (6/6/2012 5:40:47 PM)

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and A Series of Unfortunate Events are both based on the first entries of a series of books and both gave the impression that sequels would follow but never did.

Lirik -> (6/6/2012 5:41:16 PM)

Plus Ang Lee's Hulk never saw its sequel, and we got only a reboot.

Lirik -> (6/6/2012 5:44:05 PM)

Now we have John Carter also.

Lirik -> (6/6/2012 5:45:57 PM)

Now we have John Carter also.

alsybroth -> Deep Rising (6/6/2012 6:17:30 PM)

A sea monster movie made by Stephen Sommers (before he made a franchise that DID get sequels) that tries so hard to be Aliens its ridiculous. And ends like it then wants to be King Kong for the (never happened) sequel it seemed.

alsybroth -> (6/6/2012 6:18:55 PM)

PS: You can be certain Green Lantern will be one to add to this list too.

Brad911 -> A-Team?? (6/6/2012 7:07:38 PM)

what about the A-Team?

returnofbruno -> Young Sherlock Holmes (6/6/2012 7:58:09 PM)

Arguably better than Benedict, Nicholas Rowe is Holmes! Post credits the supposedly dead baddie signs into a hotel as Moriarty. Also known for one of the first Pixar animations, the stained glass window that comes to life.

pecman2000 -> Golden Compass??? (6/6/2012 8:46:36 PM)

Yes, its been mentioned. but surely there has to be a sequel for this? Huge budget yes, badly reviewed yes, but its in the black ist it? It was a silly film, but it makes no sense without a follow up, and, as it stands, it literally has no ending. A shame for a film that was actually seen by a lot of people.
I mean, a polar bear gets its jaw bashed off....who doesnt want to see similar to that again?!
And The Last Airbender.....that film was just wrong.

pecman2000 -> (6/6/2012 8:48:01 PM)

....and i loved Deep Rising! B-Movie quality.

hellsfoxes -> Super Mario Bros: The Movie (6/6/2012 9:07:49 PM)

Princess Daisy bursts in with gun and seriously disturbed bout something requesting the bros instant help.... probably koopers pizza was finally delivered!

Miss Brightside -> How about.. (6/6/2012 9:58:01 PM)

I thought they would mention Jumper!

gyeates -> (6/6/2012 10:46:12 PM)

No mention of RocknRolla?

Garet6 -> .... (6/6/2012 11:14:39 PM)

Erm...seriously? No Golden Compass?

AyannaNyx -> The Golden Compass (7/6/2012 1:52:12 AM)

I'm also surprised they didn't mention The Golden Compass. They tore out the original ending with the intention of placing it in the second film... Idiots....

Icarus1 -> (7/6/2012 9:13:34 AM)

Yeah also surprised Jumper wasn't mentioned, shame there was definitely potential for a good sequel there

Ali Plumb -> Sequels when it's a book adaptation (7/6/2012 9:18:54 AM)

Not *really* sequel-baiting when films are based on a series of books, now is it?

lankeymarlon -> The Golden Compass (7/6/2012 11:37:37 AM)

I too am surprised there in no mention of TGC. It's the first film I thought of when I seen the title of the article.

The Golden Compass had the audacity and self belief that they were getting a sequel and just finished 2.5 hours into a really crappy story. So glad there was no sequel.

jackcarter -> Superman IV? (7/6/2012 11:41:23 AM)

"see you in 20"

he was nearly right! (one year out!)

dgribble -> Actually; hold your breath. (7/6/2012 12:17:55 PM)

Max Payne 2 could happen; just becuase you're pretending it won't, doesn't mean it'll happen EMPIRE.

BigLeon100 -> The Evil Dead 3 (7/6/2012 1:30:34 PM)

I read the entire article waiting for this and it wasn't there: Ash magically transported to a post apocalyptic (and expensive to film) future!
We did get the special ending tagged on at the end but, great as that was, this film still perfectly fits into the list above... except the fact that it's quite popular and people would probably actually watch a sequel, unlike the rest of this dross.

nucleargibbon -> (7/6/2012 1:32:03 PM)

InnerSpace - did Jack Putter ever catch up with Tuck and Lydia Pendleton's car and save the day???

mrskopps -> (7/6/2012 2:29:58 PM)

master and commander, begged for

marcgiu -> (7/6/2012 2:44:30 PM)

Godzilla - that was the biggest sequel bait EVER!!!!!
