Just because a film has horror imagery, for me means noting,it's not horror as we know and love,so ban it.Are you sure you want 150 films listed,i'll have to have a real think about this one,but i'm up for it,and best of luck with the count, your a gluten for punishment. [;)][:D]

Generally I fall on the side of inclusion, it's just that the last time we did this a lot of people were pissed off about The Muppets making it in. I don't feel right just singling out that film because in a way it feels like singling out Gimli. What I would like to do with the list is make it even more interesting by keeping those real borderline cases, but expanding the boundaries of the list by allowing people to vote for up to 250 choices, but making it a full horror list. Not just voting for films and select t.v. episodes, but including novels, short stories, plays, radio plays, etc. I'd even include board games and computer games, and make it a list about horror culture. But I don't know if there'd be enough interest in doing that.

That would be lush - I'm so up for that.

What about songs/music videos? Or the Judderman advert?

Angelus -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (7/6/2012 8:40:10 PM)

Yeah, count me in. I'd be interested in doing a broader horror list. And September will give me time to watch a few more films/read books/play games.

Or the Judderman advert?

Yeah, that could end up in my list.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (7/6/2012 8:54:19 PM)

Ok then, here's what we'll do.

1. Lists can be anywhere between 25 and 250 choices.

2. You can include films, television series, music videos, adverts, novels, novellas, short stories, short story collections, plays, poems, radio plays, audiobooks, board games, video games. The only thing I ask is that you make clear what it is you're voting for. For example, Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu has been a short story, a video game, a rpg, more than one radio play and a film. Let me know what you're actually voting for. If there's anything you want to vote for that I've overlooked, mention it on thread and I'll let you know.

3. All the borderline stuff like Muppets/Simpsons, etc are fine.

Same deadline, end of September, and you can edit your lists up to a certain point. Sometime in September I'll say no changes to any lists already in and get those counted, but new lists will still be ok up until the end of month.

Good call. That shit was creepy as fuck.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 5:43:49 AM)

Awesome!

With TV shows is it now the entire show or still just single episodes?

And I'll still never understand what was wrong with the Muppets. [:D]

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 5:54:20 AM)

It's going to depend on the show, I think. What did you have in mind?

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:03:45 AM)

As full shows probably True Blood, Supernatural, Being Human. Will I get shouted at if I say The Munsters [:D]

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:11:01 AM)

I'd rather The Munsters than True Blood, it's better acted, better written and basically not a complete dog's arse of a show. Anyone votes for True Blood and I'll lose your fucking lists.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:11:22 AM)

Oh, and Supernatural/Being Human, yeah, full shows.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:19:48 AM)

But single episodes for shows like The X-Files are still ok?

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:22:14 AM)

Yeah, I think so.

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 8:12:54 AM)

Good, full shows means I can vote for Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids.

matty_b -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:03:40 AM)

I'd recommend people check out Marble Hornets on YouTube.

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:35:21 AM)

I haven't watched the Marble Hornets stuff for ages.

Actually, that's a point - Rawls, can we vote for the Slenderman? Its a whole internet horror cultural phenomenon, though it would be difficult to narrow down everything he's mentioned in (although Marble Hornets is the big one, some of the original fake photos were creepy as hell).

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:55:08 AM)

Can I have anything that features the Count?

Please note, I wasn't being serious!

And don't forget Are You Afraid of the Dark? [:D]

Marble Hornets is fine, but voting for an urban legend in itself... I honestly don't know. On the one hand it would be cool to see things like the white vans turn up in the list, but would people think it was stretching things too far? Opinions?

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 5:15:22 PM)

I'd love to vote for urban legends - they were a huge interest of mine for ages a while back, and I still find them fascinating. Though it is a bit of a stretch - but so many old ghost storys/supersitions are a huge part of horror culture. Though it is a stretch, I admit.

I love the urban legend stories, whether they're true or not. There is something deeply intriguing about the way they work.

I stopped watching Marble Hornets after that guy in the white mask appeared over the main guy's bed and then suddenly in front of the camera. I had to change my pants after that.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 6:15:20 PM)

I'm fine with urban legends then, but if anyone does want to vote for one, give me as much info as possible, a Snopes link or something, simply because some legends show up under different names or with slight variations.

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 9:54:21 PM)

If Slenderman's allowed, then I'm totally flooding my list with SCP Foundation entries.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:03:09 PM)

I'm tempted to say something like that should just class as one entry.

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:04:14 PM)

Fair enough, as long as it makes the list.

elab49 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:04:14 PM)

If you start adding urban legends isn't that tending to adding just what people find scary? I can see clowns ending up quite high [:D]

Or is it kind of adding books/short stories to the list?

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:06:15 PM)

I assume it means specific legends such as Slender Man, Bloody Mary, the Hook-Handed Man, anything that turned up on early seasons of Supernatural [:D].

elab49 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:08:56 PM)

But isn't it still just adding stories. Or ideas of stories as there is no one teller? [:)]

It has to be a specific urban legend, a scary one, that can be verified as having a history to it, rather than a personal phobia.

Basically, yeah. Anything that's in the oral folk-tale tradition. Even something like Candle Cove I'd accept.

elab49 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (8/6/2012 10:22:59 PM)

I guess then the same question - is there a big difference between oral folk tales and written ghost stories?

I'm not objecting the expansion, I'm just honestly interested why one and not the other. In terms of a film/tv list adding a real-life scary story would be no different to adding a fictional one. Because the film/tv bit's both too, I think?

?

Is this another time when you haven't read the thread? [:D]
