I Am Legend is great, and one I'd considered putting forward for the LitHoF at some point.

My favourite Matheson is one of his short stories, The Distributor.

I'll add that to the pile of stuff I need to read.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (15/11/2012 4:55:09 PM)

Have you read any of his shorts at all? There's some great stuff there.

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (15/11/2012 5:04:06 PM)

Nope, none. Is there a specific collection that's worth picking up?

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (15/11/2012 9:17:31 PM)

There was a collection called Nightmare at 20,000 feet. If you can get hold of that it's a nice collected stories. If you can get cheap copies of the Shock collections, they're also worth getting.

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (15/11/2012 9:20:40 PM)

Thanks! [:)]

matty_b -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 2:36:15 PM)

The Ring - meh.

Psychoville is good, occasionally brilliant.

Few better moments than Maureen, David and a certain song though. [:D]

matty_b -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 2:38:46 PM)

That's exactly what I was thinking about.

Actually couldn't breathe for laughter when that happened. [:D]

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 2:43:15 PM)

One of the greatest moments in the horror list is thanks to the band that also did Agadoo. [:D]

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 4:24:54 PM)

The Ring - meh.

Haunted Doll's House - a good little story.

Scrooge - good.

August Heat sounds fantastic.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 4:29:21 PM)

August Heat

MonsterCat -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (18/11/2012 9:35:50 PM)

The Ring - Not an awful film, but a rather hollow and uninspired one.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 12:03:15 AM)

The Ring's scarier than the original.

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 12:55:23 AM)

Monster Cat's ring is scarier than the remake.

MonsterCat -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 1:04:43 AM)

This is true.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 10:31:29 AM)

I like World War Z and Cube a lot. I saw Don't Go In The House last month and was quite disappointed by it based on it's premise and history but I did try, and only half succeeded, to find the rather ace disco tracks used in the film [:D]

rawlinson -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 10:43:10 AM)

What happened to you doing an entertainers list, btw?

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (19/11/2012 2:32:15 PM)

Number 13 is a great James story.
Haunted Dolls House is even better
Phantom of the Opera I admired rather than loved, though there were some really striking moments.
Rats starts off really well ("But was it with the rats?") but doesn't deserve to be higher than the other two
The Ring...Ringu'd better be higher
A Clockwork Orange is superb

I think the main scare is lost once you see one or the other. I'm glad I saw the original first, "that" scene certainly put the wind up me, and I'm quite thick skinned when it comes to horror. I still think it's one of the best horror films out there, the remake for me was just another unnecessary cash-in which added nothing to the original.

I'm not contributing to this thread but I am really enjoying the list Rawlinson, top work, some real gems in there, some that I haven't even heard of, but will definately check them out. [:)]

That's probably true. But I did see the original first but just found the remake more effective, And the body in the closet scene really creeped me out.

I have it ready to put up. Just need to figure out if I can be bothered to write anything.

Discodez -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (20/11/2012 12:37:25 PM)

We had a double bill of "League of Gentlemen Christmas Special" and "Tales From the Crypt" just a couple of weeks ago. I Love them both, my 14 year old step daughter not so impressed, but he she normally never watches horror films as the trailers are enough to have her running from the room in tears!!

(btw Carry on Screaming really isn't as good as Cleo, and you can't possibly be serious that "Frying Tonight" is a better line than "Infamy, Infamy, they've all got it in for me")

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (20/11/2012 1:48:20 PM)

Rabid is ace. The best of Cronenberg's horror films.

Rebel scum -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (20/11/2012 1:56:32 PM)

Rabid kinda sucks, a few good bits buried in a mire of boring crap.
The Wolf Man's pretty good.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (21/11/2012 3:21:13 AM)

I hope the most recent Kong makes the list but I bet it won't [>:]

That's my problem with some of my lists as well. Also, I accepted a bet from Matty which will be a lot of work. [:D]

The infamy line loses its impact a bit when it's repeated endlessly every time Kenneth Williams or Carry on gets mentioned on t.v.

Not saying if it makes the list, but original > Jackson's.

Gimli The Dwarf -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (21/11/2012 5:39:59 AM)

And the 76 version beats them both!

That was a lie. I'm not that bad

I actually prefer the 76 version to Jackson's CGI snorefest

That's fair comment, but by the same token you have to be at least 45 to even understand the "frying tonight" reference, I mean has any chip shop ever had that sign outside it since the early 70s?

MovieAddict247 -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (21/11/2012 1:13:12 PM)

Kate Bush is just amazing.....

Discodez -> RE: Empire Horror List: Year Two Poll (21/11/2012 4:09:29 PM)

The "Baby" episode of Beasts is one of those programmes I remember from when I was a kid and being really creeped out by it. For years I thought it was a "Ghost story for Christmas" until the death of TP McKenna and then I remembered that he was in it and managed to track it down. I have "Beasts" on my Amazon list, I really should get round to buying it (thanks for the reminder).
