Whistler -> (23/5/2012 10:09:56 PM)

I don't really care about the movie, but this is a silly, silly decision.

warren7355 -> (23/5/2012 10:10:40 PM)

Dear 3D.

Feck Off.

That is all.

Paulieman -> fuck 3D (23/5/2012 10:20:49 PM)

seriously.. fuck this very bad decision

umer_ejaz -> One thing........ (23/5/2012 10:23:41 PM)

The exec expects the 3D conversion to be done well, they have to remember with Cameron's pointless conversion of Titanic that he spent $18m and spent at least two full years to convert it. With GI Joe, even though the movie looks incredibly insane, like Lurhman's Great Gatsby movie, 3D as Dr.Kermode puts it, is just a gimmick. I can't honestly see how it will help the box office receipts in March, surely they could have sorted out on wanting a 3D conversion halfway through Post-production and converted it then, rather than delaying nearly one month before the movie gets released across the pond? A guy with half a brain would have realised that!!!!

Blyman -> Idiot Execs! (23/5/2012 10:56:09 PM)

3D films don't make money because they're in 3D, they make money because they're excellent i.e. The Avengers. I was looking forward to this in a 'know it'll be crap but hell its got the Rock and Bruce' guilty pleasure way but I'm now officially out.

paulfez -> With lessthan 5 weeksto go till release (23/5/2012 11:45:16 PM)

To delay the film 9 months to convert it into 3D this is total madness. I'm sure its more likely after Battleship flopping in the US they were scared that this will flop too, and their big idea is to push the release back 9 months and convert it into 3D!

To delay a film several months before the release date ok that makes sense Paramount have done that with World War Z, Star Trek 2 & Hansel & Gretel but to delay a film within weeks of its release is completely insane. The first GI wasn't a big success the sequel was never going to be huge and I doubt converting it into 3D and delaying its release by 9 months will increasing its box office.

This is meant to be Paramount's big year celebrating 100 years but they seem to be delaying film after film leaving them Katy Perry 3D film as their only summer release in the UK. Words fail me as I just don't understand what is going on at that incredible studio that has released some of the greatest films over the years.

Paramount do have thier logo on the front of the biggest film of the summer recieving a nice percentage for no work.... but it was thier film after doing all the hard work releasing Iron Man, Captain America, Thor they gave it back back to Disney for a higher distribution fee on Captain America & Thor. (whoever thought that was a good business idea should see Sir Alan Sugar and be fired!)

izzyxallegro -> Titanic 3D... (24/5/2012 12:10:36 AM)

I like how they think its the 3D that made Titanic 3D a hit at the box office... not the fact its fuckin Titanic

sephiroth7 -> Also fuck 3D (24/5/2012 1:40:04 AM)

Titanic looked worse in 3D. As do all conversions. My God, what a load of cock!

stenton -> to box office??!! (24/5/2012 8:19:29 AM)

Seriously?! That's a verb now?! Bloody yanks...

kielerkai -> 3D is already dead... (24/5/2012 8:32:50 AM)

There were exactly TWO movies in the past 3 years that had staggering 3D effects (AVATAR and TRON LEGACY). The bloody rest of the 3D movie bunch sucked or didn't need to be in 3D at all.

Even THE AVENGERS (which has solid 3D effects) does not need to be 3D.

Then again, who cares about G.I. Joe? (Even with Willis in it)

gsharpe -> Running Scared (24/5/2012 9:02:14 AM)

Hrm. Methinks in the summer of critically acclaimed The Avengers, (and sure to be acclaimed The Dark Knight Rises) they realised that there was no room for this one - could it be because of the quality of the film? Perhaps they realised and moved it to a much less competitive slot so as to maximise their profits with a discerning movie-going crowd. I reckon, two stars Empire?

foolishearthling -> Sounds fine (24/5/2012 9:15:45 AM)

For all that the internet is full of noisy people who like to loudly proclaim how rubbish 3D is, the box office results suggest that they're the minority. 3D is struggling a little on family films but looks to have found it's level, while on adult/action titles it's always been pretty strong (the exceptions being where popular franchises switch into 3D, because it's hard to convince that audience they'll only like the film in 3D). Plus July was hardly a great time to put this movie out, sandwiched between Dark Knight and Total Recall... dropping it in the John Carter/Battle LA slot should mean it has the market to itself.

warren7355 -> RE: (24/5/2012 10:13:52 AM)

Does anyone have any figures for how much 3D actually makes over 2D? I suspect that the vastly inflated ticket prices have alot to do with it...

AquaDragon2K -> Why the 3D? (24/5/2012 10:27:23 AM)

It doesn't need it. People that are excited it about it now, won't be in a year's time.

Nicky C -> That's not why it's delayed. (24/5/2012 10:32:57 AM)

Come on, Paramount, who are you kidding? The reason why this has been put back is because of Mr. Nolan and WB. The Dark Knight Rises is expected to take over a billion dollars (the conservative estimate is 1.1) and GI Joe was scheduled to come out 2-3 weeks after THAT? Seriously? The 'Joe' franchise is expected to succeed but the first one took less than its budget in the US and only $300M worldwide (I could be off on the numbers but you get what I mean). That sort of money could easily be sucked up by the bat franchise (or just lost, John Carter style). Lest we forget that Man of Steel has already been pushed back due to bat-shaped conflicts of Warner's own interest. sheduling any movie alongside DKR that's aimed at the same demographic is financial suicide, surely? Let's not blame it on matters of 3D. That's just a smokescreen. Blame it on the tool who did the scheduling.

dgribble -> God dammit Titanic! (24/5/2012 12:53:47 PM)

Well that's my summer ruined; it's times like this I wish 3D would blow itself....then I think of Tron Legacy, Avatar,RE:Afterlife and Underwolrd 4, and then wish 3D converserion would blow itself.,

Jack Spank -> (24/5/2012 2:06:43 PM)

I'd much prefer it if they just moved it out of cinemas all together.

3D outperforms 2D on both Box Office and Attendance. If it was just down the ticket price then it wouldn't outperform on Attendance.

Cinemas would be dumb if they didn't book 3D in line with audience demand, and the demand is for 3D more than 2D. On kids films the mix is about 50/50 but on the big blockbusters it's rarely worse than 80/20 in favour of 3D. The exception is where franchises have moved into 3D (Harry Potter, Transformers) because it's harder to convince the existing fans that they'll only enjoy the new film in 3D, but they still go 65/35 to 3D.

The internet and Mark Kermode hate 3D. The majority of cinema-goers don't seem to agree.

Wild about Wilder -> RE: RE: (24/5/2012 4:53:51 PM)

Ok so why were nearly all Potter showings in 2d for the 1st couple of weeks nearly all sold out where 3d wasn't & Desbicable Me 2D out performed it completly?
It'll be interesting to see what happens at my world of Cine after next week as only 2!!! showings of M.I.B 3 on 1 screen (in a 15 screen theartre) all day were there's about 3 or 4 screens showing 3D ? now that's a first & is in my opinion (apart from being WELL DODGY!) the start of a slippery slope.

Not sure where you're getting your numbers from. Despicable Me took about 75% of it's box office in 3D.

MonsterCat -> RE: G.I. Joe: Retaliation Moves To 2013 (24/5/2012 6:31:47 PM)

I hate to be that guy who pre-judges films, but this seems like Paramount know they have a bit of a stinky flop on their hands and they're trying to squeeze as much money from it as possible by retro-fitting it in 3D.

I know this theory completely goes against my "wait until the film comes out" philosophy, but I think it's really odd to postpone it so soon before the original US release date.

Wild about Wilder -> RE: RE: (25/5/2012 9:35:42 AM)

Heard it on a film programme on radio might've been Front Row or Kermode & Mayo can't remember which & sorry should've said the total mentioned was for the UK my bad [sm=08.gif].
But looked it up & according to pofodder.com Toy Story3 & Kung Fu Panda were also out performed, so who's telling the truth because as we know the film companies wouldn't lie about a thing like this WOULD THEY???[sm=33.gif]

Cool Breeze -> RE: RE: (25/5/2012 2:31:11 PM)

Fucking ridiculous decision on paramounts part.I was looking forward to this film but will not bother now.Another reason why people should stop buying tickets for 3D showings of movies.

Imagine if it had been The Dark Knight Rises that had been pushed back til next year for '' post 3d conversion ''.The internet would have exploded once the news broke!

foolishearthling -> RE: RE: (25/5/2012 4:38:39 PM)

Treble post joy.
