Lucky Day -> The Jet From Gladiators Appreciation Thread. (21/5/2012 10:55:27 PM)

AKA Diane Youdale.

Because she has somewhat hijacked the child of the 90's thread I thought she was deserving of a thread of her very own.

Every man of a certain age has a special place in his heart for Jet. She is beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated and she would have your back if someone spilled your pint. In a word, perfect.

Funkyrae -> RE: The Jet From Gladiators Appreciation Thread. (22/5/2012 8:57:28 AM)

My brother met her when he was at a fairly influential time of his life. She spelt his name wrong, consequently he changed the spelling of his name for about 10 years.

Jet as Games Mistress.

Rebenectomy -> RE: The Jet From Gladiators Appreciation Thread. (22/5/2012 9:33:11 AM)

I met Jet and one of the other ones (can't remember which, I was obviously distracted by Jet) at a signing at a Sports Shop in the early nineties. Just as lovely in real life.

Also, one of the girls I used to compete against in athletics was one of the modern day Gladiators, namely Battleaxe.

You wouldn't want to go home to Battleaxe with an open pay packet would you?

I thought she was Scottish?

UTB -> RE: The Jet From Gladiators Appreciation Thread. (22/5/2012 9:36:47 AM)

Ah Jet was my first crush (was only 10/11 when Gladiators started).

Still a hummmmmmdinger.

She has Scottish heritage (one of her parents I think) that's why she competed for Scotland in various events, but she's from Whitley Bay. Competing in the north east of England was always weird as a good chunk of the competitors chose to compete in and/for Scotland.

Russ Whitfield -> RE: The Jet From Gladiators Appreciation Thread. (22/5/2012 11:16:48 AM)

I remember when Gladiators was about to come out, they had Jet on (the Jeremy Kyle of the day) Kilroy. Loads of fat oxygen thieves were having a go at her for being fit (in both senses) and how she was projecting a fake idyll of what people should aspire to be (they used less syllables). They also went on to claim that they were happy with their bodies/lifestyle, weren't rabbits/didn't want to live on lettuce and so forth.

Jet took it all on the chin and said it was up to them, but she wanted to eat/live healthy. She's not only lovely, she's got a message that can help us all. Is she a superheroine or what!

"A weapon of war, domineering, aggressive and indomitable - a warrior queen.

Battleaxe was born in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, England and she is the daughter of Scotland's 1970 Commonwealth Games hurdler Andy Webb. She graduated from Edinburgh University with a BSc degree in Mathematics.

She is a former hammer thrower for Scotland and Great Britain. Her record of major championships includes Olympic Games (2004), World Championships, European Championships and 2 Commonwealth Games (2002, 2006) where she competed for Great Britain and Scotland respectively. In 2005 she won the European Cup for Great Britain. Her personal best throw is 67.58 metres which is the Scottish record, and places her second on the British outdoor all-time list.

Battleaxe was previously a spring board and high board diver and she is a professionally qualified dancer, specialising in ballet, tap and modern. She coaches trampoline, diving, gymnastics and athletics and she was an Ambassador for Glasgow's successful 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.

She is a patron for Meningitis UK after being struck down with the viral form of meningitis a couple of years ago. Battleaxe saw first hand how quickly the disease can strike."

Jet could take her in a square go.
